This crochet book has beautiful patterns in it of scarves, shawls and capes. The yarn they use in the book can be substituted in which case I did, but the shawl I did came out beautiful, too. I actually showed my book to a friend and she thought the patterns where beautiful too. It is for a more experienced crocheter than a beginner though unless you have someone that can help you with some of the unfamiliar stitiches. I would recommend this book to crocheters who like to do projects that take more than a day or two and like unique stitches.
Since I needlework all the time, I have a tendency to purchase design and instruction books which contain projects that can be passed along as gifts. This book has many, very good, contemporary styles that vary in design to suit many tastes. I also purchase craft books based on value. For me, value means that I want to make most of the projects presented rather than just a few. This book is a very good value for me. The instructions look doable, however, I don't really think that all of the projects could be tackled by a beginner without assistance.
