Wrong Place, Wrong Time by Andrea Kane

Sally Montgomery anticipated a romantic weekend getaway. What she got instead was a nightmare of unrelenting terror. The murder of her companion and the torching of their cabin sends Sally into hiding—from the police, who believe she's a suspect . . . and from the killer, who wants her dead.

Desperate and alone in the woods, Sally has nowhere to run and nowhere to turn—except to her ex-husband, former NYPD detective-turned-private investigator Pete Montgomery, and their daughter Devon, who inherited her father's investigative instincts. Devon's search for the truth takes her dangerously close to the powerful Pierson clan and its enigmatic heir apparent, Blake Pierson. But with Olympic show-jumping gold at stake and his family's empire threatened, whose side is Blake on? Time is rapidly running out for Devon. Racing the clock, she must prove her mother's innocence and outmaneuver the killer before her tactics put her in the wrong place, and one more step will mean certain death.

Flat out, I really enjoyed this book. From the second I started it, it had already made my favorites list, and that doesn't happen that often. Every single detail made me want to keep reading. For an entire day in school and at my job, I didn't do any work because I was so completely interested in what was going to happen next. I COULD NOT stop reading. Andrea Kane did a wonderful job creating suspense throughout each sentence. I liked how there were certain parts at the end of most chapters that got you to wonder. Kane would describe a little scene that was set aside from what had happened in the chapter that gave you the chills because it was so sketchy. It was mostly clues that one of the main characters had someone watching her, and also what the people on the opposite side of the mystery were up to. At first, she didn't mention what was going on at all or who the characters were that were either speaking or doing something that was a hint to the answer. It was just a little flash of information on the side to make you think and every time I would end up believing it was a different person. As the book went on, you were able to udnerstand those little sections more but it still made you want to keep reading. Another aspect that really got me interested in the book was that there were so many dead ends. You would think you've figured out who the killer was until a new piece of evidence was revealed proving your conjectures wrong. Again, you get so curious that you almost want to skip ahead. The only reason I didn't skip ahead was because I was genuinely interested in everything that was going to happen. Really the one thing I wasn't too fond about in the novel was the fact that Kane was fairly repetitive with her vocabulary choices and even some key phrases. It wasn't even like one character repeated themselves a few times. More than once a character would say something, and aonther character would say it in a completely different scene, and then you would stumble upon the same phrase or word within the narration. That bugged me a little bit. That's almost as bad as using one word three times in a sentence as opposed to replacing them with pronouns or something. All in all, the plot was amazing and very detailed. I strongly reccomend this book to anyone who enjoys romance novels and murder mysteries. It is definitey a book that you will not want to put down.

Sally Montgomery and Frederick Pierson go away on a romantic tryst that has Devon the adult daughter of the woman worried about her mom who has not really dated anyone since her divorce fifteen years ago. Sally shares some of her daughter¿s concern as she is nervous about her romantic rendezvous, afraid that something will go wrong. --- Something does when someone murders Blake and burns down the cabin that the pair was using. The cops assume Sally is the prime suspect while she is on the lam fearing her boyfriend¿s father is somehow involved and after her. Her former husband, an ex NYPD detective turned sleuth Pete 'Monty' Montgomery rushes to Duchess County, New York to learn the truth and more important to protect the mother of his children. Devon also tries to prove her mom¿s innocence, but admits to herself she finds Frederick¿s nephew Blake quite attractive though he seems to want to hang her mother for killing his uncle. --- Readers will believe this is the right place, right time to enjoy Amanda Kane¿s latest romantic suspense thriller. The story line is action-packed as two families converge with different opinions as to whether the beleaguered Sally killed Frederick. Pets provide comic relief unless you are the victim of their stealing your roast beef or chaperoning your lovemaking. Fans will appreciate this fine class war who-done-it as the street wise middle class battles with the snooty upper class in a suburbian tense tale. --- Harriet Klausner
