After eight years finally the end of xxxHolic! CLAMP is usually quite notorious for bad endings so I had low expectations going into volume 19. However, I’m quite happy with the outcome for this series. While I think a few of the stories in this volume lacked some of the impact as compared with those in the previous volume, the final chapter had a nice twist. It is great to find a series with a long page count that still has some surprises in store for the reader and remains interesting over time. Recommended for those who like slower, subtly paced stories and Japanese folklore.

So CLAMP had been pushed into doing the extended series, "xxxHOLiC:Rou", which started after volume 16, in another magazine. Then the popularity waned and it ended after three volumes. Due to the material of the story, I consider it an extended epilogue of sorts. The series does not go out with a bang, but rather a whimper... yet, I found the past three volumes, including this one, to be rather intriguing. Anyone who has made it this far is probably already attached to the characters, so if that's you, be happy. Even though the ending to this series is somewhat open, the series WILL and HAS continued among other CLAMP works--most recently and notably, their "DRUG&DROP" series (sequel/continuation to "Legal Drug"), which has yet to be released in English. As for recommending this title, if you've gotten/read the past 18 volumes, you're not going to miss out on this one, no matter what I say. If you're only buying it to see where the series ends, don't bother. It's a series that ended how it did for the creators and the fans alike--not a stranger. If that makes you sad, do some more research on the manga culture. That's just how it works.
