Yokai Relations, the border between the monsters of Japanese legend and the regular population, doesn't pay as well as it used to. Nick McLeod clings to his job on the dense streets of Tokyo, satisfied as long as he covers his rent and whiskey each month.
Nick lives on the line between functional and full-blown alcoholic and has managed to not fall over yet. Until Lin, the only fox to show him any tenderness, ends up dead. Her apparent murderer, a black cloaked monster shrouded in cigarette smoke, is dead set on throwing him over that edge.

Together with his assistant Tom, a 7-foot tall, fashionista ogre, Nick fights to survive this threat before he's crushed under the weight of his own personal demons.

Addiction can wear down the strongest man. The heaviest thing Nick's lifted in months? A fifth of whiskey.

Nobody hits rock-bottom in free fall. You skid.

About the Author

John LaTorre moved to Japan almost 7 years ago with hopes to discover what to do with his life. He complains a lot. But the people he's met, the things he's done and has yet to do, keep him there. Plus Tokyo is one amazing town.

Despite all of that he's one of the most die-hard supporters of his ancestral home, Carrboro, North Carolina. It's hard to find a good pulled pork barbecue in Tokyo but he's alway on the look out.

When not writing books or either of his blogs (Not Here for Green Tea and Onsens & Level 30 Plus) he enjoys photography, video games and the mystery of improvisational comedy. Not necessarily in that order.

Call him John, with an 'h'. And yes, the 't' in LaTorre is capitalized. Pronounce the 'e'.
