Shay is a numbers-obsessed single woman in NYC, who lives with her best friend, Sean, who she wishes was more than just a friend. Sean is oblivious to Shay’s interest in him and has a girlfriend, Jody. Shay has also recently lost her job. One day she is waiting for the subway when the woman next to her jumps onto the tracks. So begins the funhouse ride of a book called You are not Alone. These are the same authors as my 2018 favorite, The Wife Between Us. So you know to expect some misdirection and it is there, in spades. A group of six women led by sisters Cassandra and Jane have a connection to the dead woman. Shay also feels a strange underlying connection to the woman, later found to be named Amanda. And it’s not just Amanda’s necklace, which Shay retrieved from the subway station floor. Surprise about everyone’s motives is key to the reader’s enjoyment of any of these authors’ books so I won’t say more. Suffice it to say, You are not Alone is a thrill ride not to be missed. If you’re like me, your alliances will change frequent as you read the book. I would also like to call out the lead-ins in front of each chapter from the “Data Book”. With facts about suicides to how to lie effectively, they were icing on the cake (whether they were true or not). 5 stars and a favorite 2020 thriller. Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

A wonderful thriller you don't want to miss. Shay is a young woman down on her luck. She witnesses a pretty lady throw herself in front of a subway train. Why would a beautiful young lady take her own life? It torments Shay and soon becomes an obsession. There are so many twists and the turns the book kept me guessing the entire time. Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen kept me on pins and needles the entire book. Masterful writing that is intriguing and suspenseful. An absolute must read!

The talented duo has done a wonderful writing job on this read! A very different book with lots of surprises! Shay, the lonely main character, is drawn in by sisters Cassandra and Jane. The reader is kept in suspense wondering what Shay has got herself mixed up with. This, after Shay witnesses a train suicide... Many twists - an extremely enjoyable book! As always, Many Thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for a super read!

Can these 2 write or what? Shay witnesses a tragedy. Shay finds some new friends to help her through this tragedy. Are the Moore sisters too good to be true? I was constantly saying to Shay, "Don't do it. Don't go there!". The suspense is constantly having you on the edge of your seat. I like Sean and though he's not in a lot of the book- what he does is the mark of a true friend. He watches out for Shay when she thought only the sisters had her back. Just when you think the sisters are the worst.... You find out that someone is worse than them and it was shocking, so manipulative!

This book was interesting! It kept me guessing on what would happen next and I wanted to find out! I felt really bad for Shay the whole time. She is a very smart girl, but very lonely, so I could see her getting wrapped up with the sisters. I felt like I knew what was going to happen in the very end (and I was right), but the way the ending was written, you didn't really know what was coming. I was going to be kind of mad if the ending didn't go as I expected because it would make Shay look stupid, but it did go the way I expected, in a good way :)

You Are Not Alone --- Well I loved the other books by these two authors and loved all the books previously by Sarah Pekkanen. So, my question, is what the heck happened? I picked up this book several times and couldn't get past page 52. I noticed all the great reviews on Barnes and Noble by other readers - so that was the only reason I even kept trying to get interested. So slow - boring - wondered how this was one of their books. I will give them another chance on their next book - probably won't buy a hardback - just in case! Sounded so good - then, I decided that life is too short to spend reading a book with absolutely no appeal. Thumbs down!

Big THANK YOU to St. Martin’s Press for allowing me the opportunity to read and review this newly released book! I have to say, I LOVED “An Anonymous Girl” and was beyond excited to read this one. Did not disappoint. I tore thru this book in a matter of days, I kid you not. Captivating read, suspenseful, well written. It will have you on the edge of your seat, racing to find out how it will end! I could definitely see this story, coming to the big screen. Take it for what it is. Enjoy the read,! Yes, I wanted to strangle Shay, the lead in the story. I found myself yelling at her within my mind, as I read page by page. But remember, Shay was lonely! She needed the validation, the support, the attention and the “Sister’s” knew how to prey upon that. It’s how they managed to grow such a group. A well written story will force an emotion out of the reader. Good, bad indifferent. And, for me, an emotion was pulled, my attention was captivated. Job well done Greer and Sarah! Thanks again!

Such an active, unpredictable read! Shay Miller is tenacious once she catches on that something just isn't right with her new friends, Cassandra and Jane Moore. Shay is the perfect "victim", looking for love, lonely, living an unremarkable life as the third-wheel in her own apartment. Shay witnesses a suicide, and she quickly becomes obsessed with learning why this poor woman felt there was no alternative but to commit suicide. Cassandra and Jane enter her life, and the coincidences start piling up. This is an amazing read, and the conclusion was most satisfying!

As the story opens, Shay Miller lives in the Murray Hill section of New York City with her friend, Sean. Shay is a market researcher who analyzes data. Since she was eleven years old, she has maintained a data book full of statistics and obscure facts. Shay's life is disrupted on a quiet Sunday morning when she finds a gold necklace with a dangling charm resembling a blazing sun lying on a concrete subway platform. Before Shay can ask the woman standing near her if she dropped it, the woman jumps in front of a speeding train. Shay becomes obsessed with Amanda Evinger, the woman whose death she witnessed. Amanda was about Shay's height and age, with a pleasant face. Why would Amanda take her own life, especially in such a violent manner? Shay learns Amanda's identity and attends a memorial service in her honor. There she meets Cassandra and Jane, glamorous sisters who own a public relations firm. They take an interest in Shay and welcome her into their sisterhood of friends. The fast-paced thriller details the skillful way in which Cassandra and Jane ensnare Shay in their tight circle of friends. Shay lacks self-confidence and considers herself lucky to be embraced by Cassandra and Jane. Shay has has no idea what Cassandra and Shay are actually up to, or why they are so interested in her. But her unrelenting obsession with Amanda and every aspect of Amanda's life causes her to make reckless choices in the name of obtaining data that will help her understand why a young, beautiful woman would end her life prematurely. What Shay doesn't realize is that every revelation about Amanda's history, every detail she uncovers about Amanda's circumstances and motivation to end her life, puts her further in danger. Pekkanen and Hendricks gradually reveal Cassandra and Jane's actual mission, what part Amanda played in their scheme, and why they must now ensure that Shay either does not uncover the truth or, if she does, is deemed so inherently unreliable that she poses no threat to them. You Are Not Alone is full of twists and surprises that propel the story forward. Shay is a smart, compelling, and likable character. Shay's need to feel loved and welcomed into a community of women inspires her to tale actions that put her life in danger. Indeed, Cassandra and Jane instantly recognize Shay's susceptibility and capitalize on it, as Shay hungrily basks in their attention. Pekkanen and Hendricks illustrate just how deceiving appearances can be, and the perfect personae cultivated by Cassandra and Jane belie an agenda and secrets the conniving sisters will do anything to protect. When Shay finally realizes that her life is in danger, the story's pace accelerates as she relies upon her instincts and the data she has meticulously documented for so many years to outwit the sisters and stay alive. For good measure, Pekkanen and Hendricks deliver a shocking conclusion that readers may find controversial. With You Are Not Alone, Pekkanen and Hendricks further establish themselves as premier storytellers focused on female-centered thrillers. Thanks to NetGalley for an Advance Reader's Copy of the book.

The writing duo of Greer and Hendricks have done it again, delivering a pulse-pounding story, leaving me breathless. An amazing story, it was taut with tension, moving ever so quickly. When Shay witnessed a woman jump to her death in front of a subway train in New York City, she becomes focused on this woman's life. Eventually, she gets to know some of her friends and becomes embroiled in their lives. Told from Shay's point of view, the authors managed to keep me guessing who were the real victims in this story. Plenty of twists and turns to keep me on the edge of my seat until the final page.

Five beautiful, well-crafted stars! This is my third read from this exceptional duo and each time I feel like their books have gotten even more twisted and shocking- how are they so creative? I gobbled this story up trying to piece together what secrets this group of women held and what the ties were. What pushed one of them to Suicide and what will be left of Shay when they are done with her? You Are Not Alone, is a must read for 2020! Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for sending me an invitation to read an eARC of, You Are Not Alone. I was soooo excited when I opened my email while in my daughter’s school drop off lane. I cheered, did a seated dance, and looked pretty silly but I knew I was in for an amazing read....and Hendricks and Pekkanen did NOT disappoint!

Greer and Sarah have done it again! They are the MASTERS of psychological thrillers! I find it impossible to summarize and review their books without giving away spoilers. There were more than a few characters to keep straight, but halfway into the book, their roles became well defined and integral to the story. I enjoyed the twists, layers, and revelations....and couldn’t wait to see how it resolved. I highly recommend this, as well as the other books by this author duo! Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This collaboration of Hendricks and Pekkanen just keep getting better. I thoroughly enjoyed this fast-paced suspense/thriller and the way the story unfolded. This is one of those suspense books that you don't want to put down, but at the same time, you don't want it to end. If you enjoy psychological thrillers and suspense, you will like this one. #netgalley #youarenotalone

Strange story of a young woman who sees another woman kill herself by jumping off a train platform in front of a speeding train. Suddenly, the young woman is enticed into a friendship with sisters Moore who transform her drab life. She doesn't know what to think...

This is another fabulous psychological thriller by Hendricks and Pekkanen. There is no way to summarize this novel without giving away the surprising and twisty plot, so I'll refrain from doing that, but suffice it to say that these authors have again produced a story that has the reader working hard (and loving every minute of it) to figure out the mysterious relationships of the characters-- this time of a group of women. Are they the wonderfully supportive longed-for friends that they seem, or is something else going on? And if so, what? And for what ultimate purpose? This is a far from predictable-- a wonderful read for the lover of psychological thrillers. Additionally, what I love about Hendricks & Pekkanen's books is that the reader is absorbed in the mystery and the anticipation of what may occur, without being terrified that some over-the-top disturbingly violent scene is going to be thrust upon you and give nightmares. You can trust these authors to keep you on the edge of your seat, without feeling bludgeoned. This is a rare talent and therefore these authors' novels are great for teens on up. I want to thank the authors, St. Martins Press, and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really love how little that summary tells you of what this book is really about. It means that unless you really dig for more details you have to go into this one not knowing all that much which is perfect in my opinion. I started reading this one and was hooked from the very beginning. I enjoyed the fact that I didn't know where the story was going which meant that I just enjoyed the ride that the authors were taking me on. There were things that I thought I knew - like the fact that maybe the sisters didn't have the best of intentions from the summary but that was about it. Instead, I spend the majority of my time reading this book just reading as fast as I could to see what was going to happen next. I didn't even find myself guessing all that much because I was just enjoying the entire experience so much. I will say that there was a certain point where I absolutely couldn't set this book down. I ended up staying up way past my bed time to finish this one because I just HAD to see how it was going to end. This book was both suspenseful and thrilling - basically everything that I enjoy in a good thriller. This is my second book by these authors (I read and also enjoyed An Anonymous Girl last year) and it won't be my last! I need to grab their first book sometime soon! Overall, I really enjoyed this book and how suspenseful it was! It kept me reading and turning the pages long after I should have been in bed. After enjoying two of the books by these authors, I will be reading everything and anything they write in the future. This was a solid thriller and one that I would recommend to fans of both thrillers and suspense. I've been pretty vague on my thoughts on this book but I would just hate to spoil anything for other readers. This is an easy book for me to recommend! Bottom Line: Another really great read by these authors! Just be warned that you won't want to set this book down! Disclosure: I received a copy of this book thanks to the publisher. Honest thoughts are my own.

This novel is classic Hendricks-Pekkanen and it does not disappoint! It is fast paced, engaging and the twists and reveals are well timed to keep the reader interested and guessing. The main character can be a bit grating sometimes but, in the end, her outcome is satisfying. I wish the ending had been a bit more involved or explained but, all in all, a real page-turner!

If you need distraction from the overwhelming woes of the world, get this book right now! You Are Not Alone, by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen, is a mystery thriller so laden with twists and turns that you are going to put down the book just to get up, take a deep breath, and remember that eating and hydrating are important. The book is incredibly complicated in that the plot moves forward through the voice of several characters, and back in time to fill in back stories, and the story itself inevitably raises questions about what is real and who is speaking truth. Yet, the authors never lose control of either pace or plot. The only thing readers might lose is sleep. This was a thoroughly enjoyable read which I highly recommend. In fact, if you are really in a book drought with time on your hands, pick up An Anonymous Girl by the same authors. It is also riveting! Thanks so much to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for providing me with an electronic ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I received an advanced copy of this book from the authors, St. Martin's Press and Thanks to all for the opportunity to read and review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own. Hendricks and Pekkanen have done it again. Another amazing novel that is practically perfect in tone and tempo which balances the multi-person POV so well. No detail is extraneous. Everything is where it should be and for a good reason. The story seems simple enough than BAM! You're smacked in the face with a twist that you didn't see coming. 5 out of 5 stars. Highly recommended reading.

This is the story of Shay Miller. Shay is someone you probably know. She can't fin love. She works a dead end job. She is isolated in her life. She wants to belong. You might not know anyone like the Moore sisters. They get what they desire. They live a very glamorous life. They have an unbreakable circle of friends. Shay thinks she wants the life that the Moore sisters have. ONLY, what they really want is her life! This is a gripping story. It will keep you on the edge trying to figure out what exactly is going on. Well written and you will be turning the pages as fast as you can read.

Wow, what a great story! I read it straight through. You Are Not Alone is an exciting, suspenseful story about Shay, a lonely young woman who is taken in by two glamorous sisters, Cassandra and Jane. Shay lost her job, and her roommate, who Shay had a crush on for years, has just asked his girlfriend to move in so Shay is losing her apartment too. Worst of all she witnesses the suicide of a young woman in a subway terminal. It is at the police interview that Shay learns the victim's name was Amanda. In trying to understand what drove Amanda to kill herself, Shay tracks down Amanda's apartment and gains information on a memorial gathering. It is there that Shay meets Cassandra and Jane and their circle of talented, accomplished women friends. We learn very quickly that Cassandra and Jane are invested in covering up the reasons for Amanda's suicide and why they've taken such an interest in Shay. Shay's life is starting to come together in the most fabulous ways and everything is going great, until things start to go terribly wrong. Hendricks and Pekkanen have crafted a detailed, believable story supported by interesting characters and several sub-plots that keep you guessing until the end. Shay, the main character, has collected data since she was a little girl. Data about all kinds of things which she writes in a series of notebooks. Each chapter of You Are Not Alone is headed by snippet's of data from Shay's books. The point of view bounces between Shay, the sisters and some of the other characters but its easy to follow and adds even more to the story. I kept sharing parts of the story with my students and my children and they were all intrigued. I think you will be too. If you are looking for an exciting diversion during these frightening times this is the book for you!! Thanks so much for the chance to read the ARC!

I really enjoyed the first two books by the writing team of Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. In both cases, the books grabbed me, twisted me around and kept me turning pages as fast as I could. So, I was anxious to see what they would dream up this time. Shay Miller doesn’t have much going on in her life - she’s recently lost her job and is temping, her male roommate, who was her best friend, now has a girlfriend. Then, she witnesses a woman committing suicide by jumping in front of a subway train. The suicide does her in. But when she makes the decision to go to the woman’s memorial service, she is taken in by the woman’s friends. The chapters alternate between Shay and the other members of the group. Shay is a market researcher and I liked how the authors punctuate her chapters with data. She’s a weird bird but I felt sorry for her. As the title would suggest, the book tackles loneliness and what it opens us up to. The story isn’t believable, but it’s a juicy, fun, fast read. I had my suspicions about the group of friends. The authors dole out hints in small increments about what they’re doing, although it’s pretty obvious early on. Even once you know for sure, the question is how it will all play out. I can’t say I loved this much as much as The Anonymous Girl. I’m rating this 3.5 stars, rounded up. My thanks to netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for an advance copy of this book.
