Its always nice to get a free preview of an authors work and I enjoyed some of the authors enough to go purchase more of their work
I volunteered to reed It Was You by Cindy Rae Hale for a free advanced copy. Reading this clean romantic novella was easy and enjoyable. At only seventy pages it took only around and hour to finish or however long it took my frozen chicken pot pie to bake. This romantic book centers on the glamorous world of motion pictures and extra work. Through the eyes of the heroine Aleyna we see what the day to day life of an extra entails. You learn about the hierarchy of the acting world and how it feels to be the low man on the totem pole. The love story between Aleyna and Carson had a Shades of Grey feel to it without the gratuitous sex. I’m sure every woman in the world has fantasized about dating a world famous actor; this book fulfills that fantasy. He is a huge star and she is only but a lowly extra, yet they are right and hot for one another. I found their relationship believable except that they kept bumping into one another rather randomly. It Was You is perfect summer read for the beach or pool; for that reader who’s looking for something light and PG. The book left me wanting more passion between the two leads. The author writes very well and I respect that she’s trying to offer an alternative to the steamy romance novels that flood book stores and the internet shops, but if you’re going to cut out the sex, you need to up the passion and the sexual tension. A scene with a tender hot oil massage, or Carson and Aleyna feeding one another exotic fruits could have added spice without crossing moral lines. Sometimes less is more, but in the case of this book, less wasn’t quite enough. I look forward to reading more of Cindy’s stories because she writes believable characters with real life conflicts.
I haven't had time to read this whole collection yet, but I'm impressed that these authors joined forces to put together a collection of clean stories that anyone can enjoy. I was lucky enough to read Cindy Ray Hale's story, IT WAS YOU. Aleyna is trying to make her way into the world of film and works as an extra whenever she can. Carson is an up-and-coming actor, who is an all-around great guy. The characters and their friends are realistic and fun, which makes them relatable. The story is told in first person, which never fails to draw me in as an honorary best friend to the main character. As Aleyna works on set, the reader is given a bird's eye view to the word of acting, which is very interesting, as well as a best friend's vantage point to a budding and potentially heart-stopping romance, which is ooh-la-la. The natural ebb and flow is engaging and had me gripped from the chance encounter in the smoothie shop. Why only 4 stars? I honestly wanted more! I would have loved to see this in a full-length novel with more development and drawn out situations because I liked it that much. If you need a quick romance fix, this is a story to try! Content: mild romance (kissing) *I received a copy through instafreebie, which didn't affect my opinions in any way.*
Overall a good collection of clean, sweet YA romances.
