JJ Toner has a real gift. This was my first read of his work, and it held me in a single sitting. Not only was the pacing excellent, the sense of place and characters were really well-drawn, historically accurate and engaging. The rising level of creepiness and the accelerating pace made Zugzwang a really entertaining read with some some real legs. I'll be looking forward to his novel-length work.
