Overview

Rebecca's Wells's bestselling 1997 novel DIVINE SECRETS OF THE YA-YA SISTERHOOD introduced the flavors of bayou life and loves to over 1.8 million readers worldwide. Now, here's the soundtrack. Well, not exactly, of course, but this trip into the Louisiana blues and the accordion-based Creole dance style called zydeco offers the same Cajun-spiced soul music that the Ya-Ya women loved so much. Buckwheat Zydeco and the Ils Sont Partis (that means "They're Off!" in French) Band sets the stage with "Ya-Ya." Zydeco legend Boozoo Chavis digs into the blues side of the dancin' style with "I'm Goin' to the Country to Get Me a Mojo Hand," while Danny Collet rocks out on "Juke Box Songs." Geno Delafose, Beau Jocque, and Li'l Brian add songs to the mix and Buckwheat Zydeco returns with the Clifton Chenier-penned classic "Hot Tamale Baby." Chris Ardoin, from the first family of zydeco, offers some country feeling in the plaintive ballad "Turn the Page," while Terrance Simien gives a blazing performance that brings all the strains of zydeco together in "May Your Music Live On." Ya-Yas the world over won't help but be inspired to new heights of fanatacism thanks to this vivid collection.
