As one who believes in 'some of' the benefits of periodic fasting, I think most fasts have merit. When you stop bombarding your digestive system with food, when you stop overloading your liver with toxins, your body has a chance to heal itself. I've had little wounds heal faster when I go on a fast. Your vision improves, your mental fog is gone, you feel a high. All good things. But ladies and gents, there¿s a HUGE disconnect between fasting for health and fasting for healthy fat loss. The former is a realistic goal. That latter is a setup for disaster. I say fat loss because that¿s the only weight you want to lose. Bone, muscle, organs, they're all healthy tissue. You don¿t want to lose any of those 3 on a fat loss program. Unfortunately, you will on a fast. You¿ll lose a good amount of fat, no question. As someone who's done his share of fasting research, you can expect to lose up to 2 pounds of fat per day on a fast. You'll lose even more total pounds 'I personally lost 30 lbs on a 13-day herbal tea & supplement fast'. Let's say, for example, you fast for 21 days. Depending on the type of fast, you'll probably lose somewhere between 14-50 lbs 'an estimate, of course'. That¿s incredible!! But at what cost? Unfortunately you¿ll also be losing plenty of healthy bone & tissue. That¿s unacceptable for long-term fat loss. The only reason it's reasonable to use a plan like this to lose weight is if you have a high school reunion coming up soon 'or something of the like'. It's not a long-term answer though. Anyone who looks at this book as a means to permanent weight 'fat' loss is disillusioned. It¿s not going to happen. The only way you¿ll maintain the fat loss you lost on a fast is to continue to eat no processed foods once your fast is finished. You basically have to not eat much. EVER AGAIN. If you can do that, more power to you. It probably won't happen though. All these reveiwers saying, 'I'm so excited! I've lost 13 lbs in 8 days!' Of course you did! You're not eating!! Come back on here after 3 months and let us know if the weight is still off. It won't be. It won't be for Robin Quivers and it won't be for you. I mean, jeez, Robin Quivers herself used to tout The Master Cleanser fast. She lost over 70 lbs on it, and became a believer. Guess what, she gained the weight back! She will with this too. We're obsessed in this country with the next new weight loss fad. It's tough because there's so much information out there. It's really confusing. We want to believe the DEFINITIVE plan is out there. And when a celebrity lends their face/voice to a product, look out!! It's even worse. Remember Oprah having Michael & Mary Dean Eades'sp?' on her show back in '99? They're the authors of 'The Carbohydrate Addict's Lifespan Program,' among others. Everyone was excited because they were losing 10 lbs in a week. It was water weight. That diet came and went. Many others preceded and followed. This is no different. There are no shortcuts out there. Sure, some programs are better for you than others 'everybody is different', but most programs will work for most people. There are plenty of good programs out there. Body For Life. 5 Factor Fitness. The Zone. Basically anything that gets you off processed junk and has you eating healthy foods is good. It's not sexy, but it's the truth. Lastly, all of this says nothing of the fact that you¿re supposed to buy a $200 kit from the author to aid you on your fast. Anytime there¿s a program 'self-help, diet, money maker' that requires you or encourages you to buy their expensive products, you have to take the program with a grain of salt. That¿s snake oil salesmanship, and it goes back to the beginning of time. Wake up people!

    Lets all cleanse our bodies.

I have heard about Dr. Ron's Detox through the interent. I bought the book and thought that it was well written. I have done the detox with a friend one time and had great results (it does work). The energy I experienced was unbelievable. I was able to walk for miles and not feel tired. The plus of the detox is while your cleansing out your body you do lose weight I lost 22 pounds. Finally, let me say that I am so glad that there is a book out there that puts us in the right direction to cleanse and lose the weight. Cheers to you Dr. Roni for a job well done.

Another diet book of junk science

The first indicator that this book is junk is the ND designation at the end of the author¿s name. The abbreviation ¿ND¿ is for Naturopathic Doctor, a profession that is based on nothing but pseudoscience. Naturopaths believe in the practice of Detoxing and colonics both discredited treatments, and Homeopathy another discredited theory. Homeopathy believes that if you dilute a real drug in water to the point it no longer exist the water picks up the qualities of the drug. Most of the claims by the author are baseless and just scientifically wrong an example is that frozen vegetables have less nutritional value than fresh. Most frozen vegetables have in fact a higher level of nutrition than fresh because they are frozen just hours after being picked thus retaining the vitamin levels and in fresh vegetables the vitamins and minerals degrade over time. All fresh vegetables loose vitamins over time it just basic organic chemistry. Loosing weight and improving health is relatively simple, exercise more and eat less. We all know what foods are healthy and which ones are junk do not waste your money and time on this piece of junk.

I think people should notice that, most importantly the author is a Naturopathic Doctor. It should be common sense for people to realize that if we give the body what it needs, and stop putting into it, those things that are harmful, then we will not have the majority of the physical and mental problems that plague many of us. This IS proven science. As a scientist, working in hospitals that have treated adults, and now children, we see it everyday. And most amazing to me, is seeing that the people working in these places, (that have had to learn in school and on the job, about how the body really does function) they too believe these same principles. First hand experience concerns my joints. The pain I had for months, not being able to hardly stand after sitting, not being able to walk with full range of motion, not being able to lift my leg when driving 'without using my hands to help lift it', not even being able sit comfortably in most positions. After less than one week of eating these foods: those that eliminate toxins, anti-inflammatory foods, healthy, non-toxic foods, and especially not putting harmful foods into my body, it was amazing. Without expecting the change, I was suddenly walking normally, able to exercise, as if there never had been a problem. Now, with the severity of my hip pain, when I went to the doctor, because I seriously thought I must have injured it, he had x-rays taken, MRI, gave me medicine to minimize the inflammation (NSAIDS), and medicine for pain. And still, nothing found wrong with it and nothing found to eliminate the pain and discomfort. Even physical therapy did not improve it. And yet, just this simple, basic, eating what we should, and stopping the harmful foods and drinks, complete relief was almost instantaneous. So, why do medical doctors not ask their patients these questions? What do you eat and drink each day? How much sleep? How much and what types of exercise? What forms of stress relief do you practice daily? Then instead of prescribing all these 'bandages' that only patch up the damage we do, they could instead, prescribe: -eat these foods, daily -do not eat these foods -pick one or more of these anti-stress activities each day -these exercises, this often -this amount of sleep Call me in one week. If no improvement, then we will schedule an appointment. If improvement, we will see each other in a month and go on from there. This would at least actually benefit most people, most of the time. Why are the people in our culture always wanting to treat their bodies as they want to, no matter how bad it is for them, and then expecting the medical scientist to fix what they broke? Read this book, or others like it. (there are books out there, from M.D's that teach the same thing). Try it. Be amazed at what your body can do.

    This Works!

This book changed my husband and my eating habits. We did the two day clense faithfully. We still use some of the ideas with our regular, but healthier eating habits. We both dropped 10 lbs. and are maintaining it with diet and exercise. We plan to lose 10 more. The clensing makes you feel so much better. I quit coffee and haven't needed a Pepsid complete since. We also went to pretty much dairy free. We use Soy and Almond milk for our milk products. Great book!

    Need to Buy expensive supplements

I purchased this, since it's a book, I figued it would review various detox options that are beneficial to the body. I stopped reading, and was very frustrated to find out that in order to succeed with this, they directed you to their website for products that cost upward of $200.00 I would not have purchased this book if I realized it was just an "infomercial" for something else. I wasted the money and space on my nook for this. I don't know if you can "return" a nook purchase, but in this case I would have.

    Horrible, just a long ad.

I would avoid this book at all costs. It was just a long advertisement for this woman's website. Filled with testimonials and repeated mentions of her website. So bad. I really regret this purchase.

    GOOD READ NOT GREAT

I WAS INSPIRED TO PURCHASE THIS BOOK FROM THE AWESOME REVIEWS I HAD READ IN MANY OTHER COMMERCIAL MAGAZINES. THERE IS AN ABUNDANCE OF INFORMATION TO EXPLAIN WHY AN INDIVIDUAL GAINS WEIGHT AS WELL AS WHY MANY HAVE DIFFICULTY LOSING WEIGHT. THERE IS ALSO SOME PRACTICAL INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT YOU SHOULD BE DOING TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODY AND WHAT YOU SHOULD NOT BE DOING. IN THE BEGINNING OF THE BOOK IT SAYS THIS IS AN EASY WAY TO START LOSING WEIGHT THAT WILL BE INEXPENSIVE, BUT BY THE END OF THE BOOK YOU REALIZE THAT IS NOT TRUE. IF YOU FOLLOW THROUGH WITH THIS DETOX BE PREPARED TO PAY THE PRICE. TOO MANY TESTIMONIALS. TOO MUCH PROMOTION OF THE AUTHORS' WEBSITE AND CURRENT BUSINESS PROGRAM.

7 Pounds 1 inch in Nine Days

Wow!!!. Finally a diet that I can get excited about. I'm going to be very honest, it's not a easy diet, but the results already 'and I'm only on day 9 of 21 days are unbelievable'. All the supplements recommended are delicious and although the juicing takes alittle getting used to, it's not bad either. What I love are the results. They are almost instant. I'm full of energy, my facial lines looks smoother, my hair is so shiny and my unwanted and undesirable cellulite is slowly disappearing. I've had my first colonic this morning, and have been taking care of the additional enema needs on my own every day. It's not pleasant, but I get through it and again the results are amazing. My protruding tummy is flatteneing rapidly for the first time since my kids were born 10 years ago. It's truly amazing that I'm still alive after the incredible amount of gunk that was living inside me and I've only just begun. The coffee enema's are intense. I felt alittle buzz all day, but again, you'd be suprised what comes out of you. Unlike so many health/diet books that are so diffucult to follow, Dr. Roni's writing is easy to follow and quite interesting. I don't usually take the time to review a book, but I'm so excited with my detox/diet beginning results, I thought I'd give this book the high marks it deserves. I can't wait to see what I'll look like in 21 days. A whole new, healthier, thinner, and cleaner me from the inside out. Thanks and best of luck on your personal journey to a whole new you.

    A very interesting topic!!!
Good for you! You've accomplished a lot! But don't despair, because weight loss plateaus are common. A plateau can occur when your metabolism -- the process in your body of burning calories for energy -- slows as you lose lean muscle tissue along with body fat. To lose more weight now, you need to increase your physical activity. Oftentimes, by using the same approaches that helped you lose the first 50 pounds, you'll only be able to maintain your weight loss. But at a certain point, those techniques won't lead to more weight loss. Add muscle-strengthening exercises to your routine in order to build more muscle. Although more calories are required to maintain muscle than fat, muscle building and maintenance helps boost your metabolic rate.
