Readers may find themselves eagerly turning pages to determine the culprit who threatens the life of sophomore Jenny Jeffers. After she starts a new babysitting job, Jenny receives a series of nightmarish calls. At first it appears that six-year-old Donny is playing pranks with the phone, but tension mounts when Jenny hears strange noises in the yard, then discovers a menacing note. Newspaper reports of recent attacks magnify her fears. Jenny becomes suspicious of Willers, a prowling neighbor and Chuck, the reputed class clown. Discriminating mystery fans will find the horror elements of this novel old hat and may be disappointed by the contrived outcome. Nonetheless, Stine effectively builds suspense and creates an intriguing cast of characters. The secret of the book's appeal may be in readers' willingness to accept the improbable. Ages 12-up. (July)

After what Jenny went through, it seems that she may not want to babysit for a while. Jenny gets a babysitting job but starts getting weird phone calls. This makes her obviously uncomfortable and a little scared. Makes it worse that there's been reports of baby sitters attacks. Could the phone calls she's been getting are from the person responsible for the attacks? A babysitter getting weird calls, now why does that sound familiar? Really liked this book, though it got a little sad near the end.

in the first of the babysitter series we find a babysitter being stalked by an unknown figure from creepy noises to phone calls (reminded me of when a stranger calls) all the while babysitting one night while remembering her sanity and not thinking she's crazy.

This book is a great book for a oral book report because there is so much to talk about. It is a hardhitting novel almost anyone can enjoy. Take your time and enjoy. You can guess who is the mysterious caller. Put yourself in her place.

The BABY-SITTER 1by R.L. STINE is a book I would recommend. This book puts you on your feet through out the whole book. The ending is the best and it shows how not to trust strangers. It is about a girl named Jenny Jeffers and her friend named Laura who loves to be with Jenny. until Jenny gets a baby sitting job to babt sit a daring boy. she knows she's not supposed to have company over but when she gets caught the boys father goes crazy! what will happen next? find the baby sitter to find out.

This book was the greatest book ever... I loved it... Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down... I was finished with the book in like 2-3 weeks.I am going to get the 3 and 4 book. It scared me a little bit in the begining of the book... when she first got the job... it was scary.. but thats what made it so good.!

I thought this, and the rest of the Babysitter series was really great. It was scary at times and I always wanted to keep reading. I thought it was very mysterious and bone chilling. Personally, 'The Babysitter' series was one of R.L. Stine's best.
