I have been studying Spanish on my own for 3 years now and this book is by far the best book I've used. My teacher had given it to me to study on my own after taking two years of Spanish and it was this book that really helped me get an intermediate level. I like learning different languages and have also used Living Language, Berlitz, Learn the Fast and Fun Way,and Teach yourself series. This book surpasses them all in its ability to teach and retain it. Every little thing has several exercises at the end to help you retain it. I especially found the translating exercises really helpful. You are given for several exercises the English and are then asked to translate it into Spanish, which really helped me think in that language and understand what it turns out I didn't as well when just reading through the instruction. You basically have a lesson focused on Grammar and then a few vocab words that you use in the exercises. You find the exercises build upon themselves as what you saw in Lesson 2 is being applied in Lesson 10 so you don't forget what you've already done and it just builds on itself like a pyramid. The book also has little footnotes throuhout that even as a beginner I wouldn't have thought of. The way it teaches reminds me of the Berlitz Essential series but broken down even more and with several exercises for each point, unlike Berlitz and making it easier to retain and digest. It's so simple and beautiful how easy it is to use and friendly :-O This is the best I've ever found in one book! I'm referring to an earlier edition. It's so user friendly it's scary! If you can afford to just get a used copy this is the best book I've encountered out of all of them! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
