Overview

From New York Times bestselling author, Emma Hart, comes a brand new standalone novel. BEING BROOKE is a laugh-out-loud, witty, sexy, and sometimes highly inappropriate romantic comedy about being in love with your best friend. And how much that freaking sucks.

My name is Brooke Barker...
And I'm a freaking disaster.
No, seriously. I'm a college drop-out working a dead-end job, my best friend Carly's dog gets more action than I do, and I have more bad dates in my diary than there are movie remakes.
Not to mention I'm completely and utterly in love with Cain Elliott.
The problem? He's in a relationship. With a girl who's so plastic she makes Barbie cry herself to sleep with jealousy.
The second problem? He's my best friend.
My shut-up-and-put-on-Harry-Potter, yes-this-is-your-shirt, help-I-have-no-power, crap-I'm-out-of-tampons, kinda best friend.
And that's all he can be, right?
Right.

Being Brooke 4.4 out of 5 based on 0 ratings. 17 reviews.

Honestly, I was not a fan of this author's writing style. I felt the writing and characters were very immature. I'm not one to write reviews, but I feel that I truly wasted my money on this. The characters were very bland and predictable, the way they spoke was childlike, and the phrases they used didn't even always make sense. I skimmed the last 2/3 of the book just to finish it.

I have never read this author before but this book sounded fun. Brooke Barker has a problem...she is in love with her best friend...Cain Elliot and has been for years. The only problem, Cain has a girlfriend, one whom Brooke does not like. The other problem...everyone in the entire town knows that Brooke and Cain should be together, except for Cain. I just adored the characters in this entire book. Brooke was so laugh out loud funny. I imagine the author just sat there cracking up as she wrote this book. Cain was sweet and good looking and too nice for his own good. No one liked Cain with his girlfriend but he didn't want to cause any problems. I loved how Brooke always came first, even before his girlfriend. That right there should have told him something. I loved the other best friend Carly, Cain's brother's and even their parents. Overall this was such a fun story. I really enjoyed the path these two went down to finally realize that they belonged together. Cain and Brooke were just made to be together!

Being Brooke By: Emma Hart 5 Star Review by KristieK A sinfully sweet story filled with delicious anticipation and lots of searing sexual tension… Brooke Barker is a hot mess…but she is out on her own and making her own way. Wit A LOT of help from her friends. Especially her best friend, Cain Elliot. The only real problem Brooke has? She's head over heels in love with Cain. Has been for years, but Cain is the only person within a 10 mile radius that DOESN’T know it. I absolutely loved everything about this book! Being Brooke completely captured my heart, from Brooke’s quirkiness to the incredible relationships these friends have formed. Ms. Hart totally nailed the tumultuous emotions experienced in a situation with (supposedly) unrequited love. I was enthralled with every new adventure, every fun escapade, and gutted with every misstep, every tear felt like it was my own. Every girl has felt that pull, that desire to have someone that they didn’t’ think they could have. Ms. Hart captured that with startling realism and feeling. The writing was totally on point, the characters were flawless, the plot and execution of it was absolute perfection. Ten for ten, Ms. Hart…can’t wait to see what you come up with next. Kristie K

This book is just the right combination of humor, sass, love and sexy. It will make you cry you'll laugh so hard.

A friends to lovers romance filled with sass and plenty of laugh out loud moments. I was thoroughly entertained by Brooke’s “hot mess” antics. This is one of those heroines where I totally could have seen myself as her best friend. My only complaint is I was a disappointed that the build up between Brooke and Cain was rather anti-climactic. Literally. Being a huge fan of this author, I was totally expecting them to come together in the end (quite literally) with some explosive chemistry as a result of all the sexual tension, but alas no. That event was only referenced, not depicted. I really wanted at least one sexy times scene! Despite that, this was still a feel good, perma-grin story with plenty of antics that made me laugh.

Hilarious friends to lovers story. Brooke, Carly and Cain have been friends - best friends - since childhood. Brooke and Cain are both attracted to each other but don't do a thing about it. She's convinced that her crush will fade but it only intensifies as time passes. This story was so much fun to read. We are constantly in Brooke's head, and she loves to ramble and worry. We know every thought, fear and concern. It really was a delight to be so far into her life. While she'd convinced she's the black sheep, she'd OK with it most of the time. She's in a fairly dead end job with no passion or ambition, but she attempts to make the best of it. Cain's been fighting feelings for her for quite some time. His girlfriend is probably more high maintenance than a runway model and nobody seems to like her. She's constantly accusing him of sleeping with his 2 best friends. When Carly finally confronts Cain about his relationship and happiness, it doesn't go over well. There are a few tricky situations before Brooke finally comes clean to Cain about her feelings. By the time he's willing to throw caution to the wind, she fears the inevitable crash and burn - she doesn't want to lose her best friend. I really loved these characters and the writing. I would recommend this to anyone. It's a great insight of the neurosis of the female mind. The ending and Brooke finding her place in the world made my heart smile. Pick it up. You won't be disappointed.

The main character Brooke, was childish and annoying. I liked it in the beginning but it went a little bit overkill with the manner she reacted to certain situations. The story should be under young adult rather than romance for it felt like the relationship was underdeveloped. It took 200 pages for them to just kiss and the last few pages to say they did the deed. we are adults buying a romance novel... i feel it should be towards young adults in the style of writing and maturity.

I have to say, i really like Emma's writing style. I have read the brother series so i figured I'd try a standaline. Good easy read. Nice build to their romance. The characters were easy to love. Good story.

I'm twenty-four, it's a Friday night, and I'm waiting in for a take-out gyros and fries in my onesie. My life is just so exciting I can barely stand it. Brooke Barker and Cain Elliott have been best friends, oh, forever. True but secret fact? Brooke's been in love with Cain for almost as long. True but not so secret fact? Brooke is a hot mess, and that is where all of the fun begins. Okay, I'm just going to say this right off the bat: I freaking LOVE this book. I'm already a huge fan of Emma Hart, so I had every expectation that I would like BEING BROOKE, but, friends, she continues to delight and entertain, and, per usual, I could not put this one down. Emma has a gift for writing books full of love, family, and friendships that have stood the test of time. Her Burke Brothers and Holly Woods series are great examples of the strength of family ties, of small town life with its quirks and joys, and the beauty of love born out of friendship. BEING BROOKE has all of these qualities, and they, along with Emma's signature snark, sass, and humor, make this new group of characters just as lovable as her others. Brooke is truly a mess, but she's aware of it, and she's living life with no filters. A large part of Brooke's appeal is her quirkiness, and her absolute refusal to do things any differently, and her sass and determination make her a lot of fun to read. I think that we all love to live vicariously through those characters that grab life by the throat and just live in the moment, and there is no shortage of them in this book. There were many moments in BEING BROOKE that had me laughing out loud, including those starring her hoot of a grandfather, and I enjoyed every minute of it. Emma's latest is a book that I cannot recommend highly enough. 2016 has been one heck of a year, so a read that has so much love, laughter, and wonderfully awkward moments earns every one of the 5+ stars that I'm giving it, and makes for one of my favorites of 2016. My recommendation? Grab BEING BROOKE and finish up your year on an up note. You will not be sorry.

“I’m twenty-four, it’s a Friday night, and I’m waiting for take-out gyros and fries in my onesie. My life is just so exciting I can barely stand it.” From the first page of this book, I was laughing. By the middle of the first chapter, I was laughing OUT LOUD! Brooke is a character that definitely doesn't have it all together. She's clumsy, awkward, not dedicated to any career path, and has only just moved out (upon threats from her mother). The thing is, none of these traits takes away from her character. She's loyal, funny, and absolutely someone I'd want as a best friend. There were a lot of things I really liked about this story. The first was the friendship between Brooke, Cain, and Carly. Even though we know from the very first moment that Brooke has loved Cain forever, she still puts their friendship first, as does the rest of the trio. “...Unless I’m marrying someone, I’ll always care about your more. Nobody gets to talk stuff about you to me unless it’s Carly, and that’s only because I know she’s already said it to your face.” I also loved that nothing was simple. Transitions were awkward, secrets were kept, and balances were thrown off. This was one of the most realistic “I'm in love with my best friend” type of stories. And, some people are gonna hate me for this, I loved that sex didn't rule the relationship in the story. Now don't massacre me here, I love a sexy story, but here the focus wasn't on just that. Yeah, all the elements were there, and YES they were obviously attracted to one another, but this book was more. The thing I didn't like was some of Brooke’s attributes. Let me explain better. I LOVED Brooke. My issue here wasn't in her being her, but rather a disconnect for me. I'm clumsy, not super handy around the house, and super independent. In Brooke, sometimes her negative, or eccentric, attributes came off a little … exaggerated for me. I get needing help for multiple tasks in life, but it just seemed like there was so much she couldn't do. That being said, I still truly enjoyed her. This is a story I enjoyed much more than I anticipated. It made me laugh out loud, it made me swoon, and it even made me tear up a little there towards the end (no, I'm not telling). Lovers of laughs and romance will thoroughly enjoy this one!

Being Brooke is a cute, funny, standalone romantic comedy. Brooke, while coming off as childish at times, is a strong, sassy woman. She loves as much as she can. Her best friends are always there for her, and she's always there for them. Cain, one half of her best friends, is the voice of reason. He knows Brooke better than she knows herself. I was so nervous to begin reading Being Brooke. I was in such a book funk and within a few pages it was gone! I was giggling, smiling, and I didn't want to put it down! Ms. Hart has a way of capturing your attention and holding onto it until the last page. I was dying to see what Brooke would say next, or what was happening with one of her friends. Recommended for sure

Brooke, Cain and Carly have warm, affable personalities. They are the kind of characters turn want to know in real life and call your friend. The sarcasm and one liners will have you laughing out loud! This is a great feel good book!

Being Brooke by Emma Hart is a standalone contemporary best friends-to lovers romance that was exquisitely written, laugh- out loud hilarious, and swoon worthy in the best of ways. Brooke is an absolute hot mess. She knows, her friends know it and it is something she is almost proud of. She is honest and loyal, and as far as any written character can be, she was very real. Cain is the hot as hades best friend she has been slowly falling in love with for years. His current girlfriend is a barbie from hell and Brooke can feel him slowly slipping into the wrong kind of crazy in Nina's direction. In an attempt to remain spoiler free - this book has a happy ending, the journey is one that will have you unable to put the book down and unconcerned if you are laughing out loud or snorting in public at Brooke's antics. The romance is there and is a slow but sure climb to some outrageous passion. Enjoy!

Anyone who knows me, knows that I became a huge Emma Hart fan from the moment I opened up The Love Game and fell into one of her fictional worlds, I have been hooked! Just when I think that I can't fall anymore in love with her writing she gives us Brooke... the sassiest, wittiest, clumsiest heroine to ever fall madly in love with her best friend. I am truly head over heels addicted to best friend romances and sarcastic heroines, put those two elements together in a story and I am an absolute goner! Brooke and Cain are “pee your pants” funny, hot enough to burn your grill cheese, and sweeter than any cupcake around! Brooke Barker has a serious problem, and it isn't her lack of adulting skills. It is being madly and completely in love with her best friend Cain. But what can you do when he already has a girlfriend and he has seen your brand of crazy in all of its glory! I adored Brooke and her strange, over the top, down and dirty grandpa had tears of mirth rolling down my face. Brooke fascinated me in every way from her awkward antics to her inability to stop from blurting out anything inappropriate. She is a heroine who is riddled with flaws that make you love her all the more! Cain is complete perfection! When a best friend knows all of your secrets, has bought you tampons and he totally rocks your world, you don't let him get away. He makes a reader's heart go pitter patter and keeps hot and bothered without even trying! What isn't to like about a hero that would rather see you in comfy yoga pants, knows your favorite pizza, and loves Harry Potter. Add in hot as hell muscles and a great sense of humor and any reader would fall in love. Emma Hart delivers another romance with side splitting humor that inspires lots of heartfelt sighs. Emma always hits me in the heart, makes me smile, while still keeping things hot! I highly recommend Being Brooke for a best friend to lovers story that will have you falling for not only the hot hero and scatterbrained heroine but their families as well. Emma has a way of drawing readers into her fictional world and making them feel like never going home.
