Meet the Author

I live in Essex in the UK with my son and two cats, Puzzle and Bud. Like so many people I've always written and had lots of ideas for stories but never thought I would ever be published. In January 2011 I helped to set up a writing group(Writebulb) and found out about Smashwords from one of our guest speakers, Penelope Fletcher. I remember being totally blown away by the fact it was possible to self-publish and a couple of weeks later finished a book that I started some years ago.I've now published 3 books and one short story in the Burly & Grum Tales one one story, 'Unlucky Dip' for young adults, and will continue to write and self-publish - it's been hard work, but I've learnt a lot and met some great people along the way and I have a great sense of achievement. If anyone loves to write and is hesitating about self-publishing I would definitely say give it a go!Kate :)

    This was a brilliant book - I was confused by the review that said there were no illustrations because there were and they really helped to bring the story to life. Burly and Grum try to show Max a secret city in for forest but they are hunted - the characters are really funny, even the baddies making you laugh. It's about friendship and so much more. Definitely one the kids will love!!!

    In Kate Tenbeth second book about the adventures of Burly the Be

    In Kate Tenbeth second book about the adventures of Burly the Bear, Grum the Goblin, Max the young Human, Mike the Angel and the whole gang.  In this one Burly and Grum show Max a secret city in the forest.  They start out on a day of fun and discovery…and of course end up in trouble.

    Again Kate has put together another great story about friends and friendships.  It shows how working together can solve problems.  I loved this book as much as her first book, Beyond the Forest.  You can see my review for Book One on this site also.  Her second book is fun and all of her stories are around 40 pages long so it is a fun, quick read that will really brighten your day.  This book is good for all ages and I recommend it to everyone who still enjoys a fun adventure.  You never know what kind of trouble these guys will get into. It has wonderful illustrations by Rob Jones…I wish there were more, a lot more and the witting is great. The story is original and always has good morals and a feel good ending.

    Kate Tenbeth also gives a donation to the Born Free Foundation for each book that is purchased.  So how can you go wrong…buying her stories not only do you get a fun filled story that will make you smile (a lot) you are also contributing to a great foundation.

    4 STARS
    Burly & Grum is a well told children's story that teaches a lesson in it. Plus it is a adventure too.
    Burlington Bear, Grum the groblin and Max are best friends playing by a river and having a picnic. Grum and Max have different opionons of what their lunches and whats fun at playing. Burly tells them its okay to be different.
    They show Max a lost city in the forest. Hunters end up trying to capture all three of them.
    It is a good plot with different characters that are well developed. Easy to follow. exciting adventure.
    I was given this ebook to read in exchange for honest review from Librarything.

    "BURLY AND GRUM AND THE SECRET CITY" BY KATE TENBETH

    I just finished this book and I have to say it is simply adorable. There are fantastic morals in the story, lessons that every child should learn early on such as how it's wrong to hunt and harm animals, and how you can always count on your true friends to be there for you. The characters are cute and you can't help but to be drawn in by them. I love the fact that Kate also has elements of inspirational faith in her book such as the addition of the angel lovingly called Mike.

    This book is a fantastic read and one I think children of all ages would enjoy. It has adventure, comedy, and thrills delivered in all the right amounts. My daughter is begging me to get her a Kindle so she can read it! I got a feeling she just might steal mine! The illustrations are also beautifully drawn, the artist has amazing talent. Thank you Kate for a beautiful story with characters that I could definitely see as stuffed toys! You just want to squeeze them tight!
