I was hesitant to read this thinking it would be a love story about two men, however its not. It was a beautiful, scorching and heartwrenching love story involving a man torn by his feelings for a man who was his life for years and the feelings he is confused he has for a new woman. I highy reccommend this wonderful story. I look forward to reading more by th is author. Her words and characters are real and full of emotion.

Ok, let me honest, I hestitated buying this. Not because the homosexual angle but the switch from Alex to Becca. However, I bought it based on reviews. I am truly thankful that I did. Ms. Knights writing style and tone is powerful. She handle the topics in this book so well that all the angles felt beautiful instead of trite and off-putting. It was so well threaded that I felt it wrap around my emotions and slowly pull me in even more. Ms. Knight's use of description and expression is over powering. This is truly a beautiful piece of work.

I'm actually a little speechless, because there are so many reasons I loved this book, it's difficult to put all my crashing thoughts into one review! I must admit, I was reluctant to read this story because it's not the kind of book I would normally choose, but my GR friend, Michelle, recommended it to me - and oh my goodness, am I so grateful to her!
This is a lovely story about a man named, Michael, who has always enjoyed the companionship of women but one day unexpectantly, recognizes the beauty in a man named, Alex, whom Michael actually (to his surprise), falls in love with. Strangely, this love affair seems better than second nature to him - he dosen't understand it; it just fells right; and for the next 12 years, he loves Alex and Michael is completely and utterly, loved back. They adopt a beautiful daughter they name, "Andrea" and together their life is unexpectantly easy and uncomplicated. But life is never easy and uncomplicated and Alex dies on impact in a horrific car accident, with their precious daughter in the backseat - holding on for dear life. Andrea survives, thankfully, but not without severe internal scaring of having lost one of her beloved parents. A year passes and Michael still hasn't completely come to terms with Alex's death; although he meets a woman named, Rebecca that will change his and Andrea's future, remarkably. Unfortunately, Rebecca harbors her own terrible reminders of internal scarring and visible ones, from nine life-shattering knife stabbings; being butchered by a crazed stalker three years prior to meeting Michael. Not only is Rebecca left for dead...she does die - just for a moment. The unconcievable violence shakes her to her core and her internal baggage has left her emotionally unavailable to invite anyone into her world, or so she thinks. Now, Michael is falling in love with her - which is frightening to them both...
The premise of this book seemed so out of character of something I would normally read. The horrific events alone made me wonder what I was getting myself into, not to mention the hero once being in a gay relationship. Although, I am forever in search for "new and different" approaches in my romance novel endeavors and I am so elated I took the advice to read this beautifully written book. The writing was seemless and graceful with an exquisite flow about it that kept me turning the pages to the next "Michael" or "Rebecca" named chapter. Thus, enhancing the reader's ability to sneak in and witness the heart-pounding thoughts of each character - from the impossible love they formed to the tragic reveal of so many dark secrets. I. Loved. This. Book. It will forever remain one of my most favorite reads, ever...

It was a story that truely touched me! Not typical storyline but i felt every emotion possible when reading this heartfelt story. This is my first book from Ms. Knight and it wont be my last.

Three people journey down a long, foreboding tunnel to make you believe in the light waiting to offer hope and the courage to face the future. They stumble; they fall; they take two steps forward and one step back. Love may not conquer everything, but in this poignant story told by Deidre Knight, it's the flashlight pointing you in the right direction. An inspirational, motivating story about two people who through the darkness find love in the least likely place--each other's arms.
I'm not one for untraditional romances, but this story captivated me. Rarely does a book make me cry, but Ms. Knight's writing touched by heart.

It's for a good reason that we say we are "falling" in love. Sometimes the choice to love and reveal yourself to another person can seem so unreasonable and risky that there is no acceptable rational explantion for such behavior. To fall means a lack of control or an accident or--what?
Taking on a topical and challenging subject and creating two maybe even three likeable and memorable characters creates a sweet tension. But so many questions: could you love someone else when your own self has been brutalized? What if that brutality was an accident or the sick, tomented
choice of a maniac? Could you love someone with a child? If that child was part of an elaborate web of lies? Would you risk your heart on someone so inconsistent they can't even declare a sexual preference?
As a multi-generational resident of SoCal and always with one foot in "the Industry"/Show Business environment, I can't say enough good about how accurately this author captured the "working class" atmosphere of the "trades"--electricians, carpenters as well as the beach/surfer community. Accurate and specific this is an outstanding portrait.
Finally, the incredible journey that is grief. Where every person involved plays a different, necessary role and recovers--or doesn't--at their own unique pace. A pace that may just damage others grieving around that individual. A truly awe-inspiring book about love and humanity--a must read for feeling grownups. Highly recommended.
