It took me a while to read this one and I’m not sure why.  I think the very beginning might have been a little slow but once I got into it I just couldn’t put it down.  I’d try to find a stopping point to do those mundane, everyday things (like cook and eat) but I’d get to the end of a chapter and find myself compelled to keep reading.  By Design is an engaging story not only about finding love, but also about finding yourself. - Full review available at BookTrib or RomanticReadsandSuch on Wordpress.

I gave it 5 stars because i did not want to lower the authors rating with my post ... its a free book friday selection so its all good as far as i'm concerned ...people here need to understand that a book review is RADICALLY DIFFERENT from a book report .....we don't need to include a synopsis of the story that is what the overview in the description is for . A good book review need only answer a few questions 1 was it good ? 2) Why did you enjoy it ? (I.e realism of charachters , humorous qualities ,likeability of charachters, emotional connections etc ).How long was it? And would you read it again? Most importantly do not put plot spoilers .this is how you write a good review .all these long detailed ones found here read like high school book reports not reviews ...you prove you've read the book ....while ruining it for potential future readers

Emmie and Graham's story is a sweet, clean romance. It is written well and has great conversations that are funny, emotional and/or sad. 270 pages

I received a copy of By Design by Jayne Denker in exchange for an honest review. I liked this book a lot. It was a very enjoyable read with a great main character who I could not help but root for from the very beginning. Emmie is looking for a life filled with love and happiness, and it seems to her that everyone around her has what she wants, not noticing they are all as flawed as she is, and in some instances, even more so. Emmie, however, has some issues in the confidence department and does not think she has what it takes to get what she wants out of life, and as a result she is taken advantage of – a lot. Fortunately, she has a great group of friends who encourage her to take the initiative. What happens in some instances are downright laugh out loud funny and sometimes, not so much. There is a little Emmie in all of us and we could all relate to her – in some way.

The idea and concept seemed sound. The author has talent as a writer. But I had several problems with this book (hope I don't give Spoilers). 1. The Heroine and her friends sounds like teenagers. They are supposedly thrity-somthings, but the dialogue was straight from a Young Adult novel. It was distractng and did nothing to show who the characters truly are. 2. The Hero with the 'save her' complex. . .I would have liked this story more had he not really been in the relationship with the married woman while also supposedly admitting love for the Heroine. I kept waiting to see him say, "she's my sister/cousin/etc". He was in an adultrous relationshp, which makes him NOT Hero material to me. 3. I never really got 'into' this world and story, I couldn't 'see, feel, scent', etc. their world. In other words, they didn't jump off the page at me.

Very good read. It kept my interest throughout the whole story. The characters were real and engaging. The christmas party was funny and sad, like many occasions we all experience. A promising author.

I am not usually a fan of romance novels but this one was sweet. No bodice ripping. I liked it.

Not very good. Typical romance type, didnt like the gay thing thrown in, that turned me off. Very slow in all. Would not recommend and wouldnt bother reading anything else by this author.

It's impossible to root for the main character who is in her 30's when you're constantly wanting to tell her to grow up. She's very juvenile. Couldn't finish the book fast enough but i had to know the ending. I guess I've been spoiled with really good writing by authors such as Iris Johansen & Linda Howard.

Modern romance with modern issues...but something was just missing. Could not relate to the characters. I did persevere and was glad the ending was happy.

Why do so many authors make women seem so dumb? Its inaccurate and insulting and beyond reading another page

This was a nice romance. No strong sexual scenes. Main character had bad luck, but handled most situations in a realistic manner. Wasn't the best story of all time, but a decent read.

I thought this was a great book for those romantics at heart (which I am). The very little sexual content was pretty mild in nature. Appropriate for young adult and older. The best part was it was a free Friday book. ;)

Predictable ending, but the right amount of love, friendship and drama to get you there.
