Loved loved loved this book! Grigori is amazing hot and sexy but what i love most is that Wren is strong, straight forward, independent, snarky and brilliant. She doesn't whine or play games, she tells it like it is and goes for what she wants. I couldn't put it down for a second!!!!! This book is exactly what it was intended to be quick, fun and HOT!!! Of course in the process Lauren has made me want to see more of this world she's created....we can only hope! (and beg) LOL

Another great story by Lauren Dane. I just wish it had been longer. I loved both characters. I don't usually want follow up books but this couple could definitely use another book.

Wren Davis, helps finance her art studies, paddling packages around as a messenger, downtown Seattle. Her favorite customer is Gregori Ivanov, a gorgeous artist of Russian descent, who not only is extremely talented, but also very unusual, with his mohawk, tattoos and general bad boy attitude. Wren loves his art.......ALL of his art, of him and on him.

Gregori has a proclivity for temporary women and frequent cake and champagne. He has lived the life of an artist since he was fifteen and is quite comfortable in the role. Few, if any, ever bother to know more.....except Wren. She seems to see beyond the persona that he has become. He enjoys their interactions, and could see their connection being more, but could never risk her friendship.

Eventually temptation, just like the scrumptious imported baked delicacies he orders and indulges in, is too difficult to resist. And like a sudden recognition, just one taste of what could be, fuels a craving that  has Gregori scared out of his wits and Wren more convinced than ever of what she wants. And Wren goes after what she wants..........

    *****

    Quite the delectable little treat!!

He is a somewhat jaded, well-known artist, unconventional but passionate. Many want him, for the wrong reasons,  few understand him for the right ones. He doesn't question the value of his work, but never trusts his own true worth.

She learned to trust the choices she made. Firmly believes in the artistic and the practical, and the balance it brings. She can see and interpret, as easily as look and act. She is willing to fight for what she wants and will never sell herself short. Atta girl!!

Love the strong female protagonist! Self-assured, willing to put herself out there and not waiting for life to fall in her lap, but going out and grabbing it! And she's telling him, you either want me, or you don't, so piss or get off the pot!! I'm moving ahead and I'm doing it either with or without. Just great!

Gregori is amazing too, he knows he has been pampered and indulged, by himself as well. He knows he is being a ninny and when he is being called on it, he is man enough to admit to it (fine, with a bit of convincing). Somehow, Lauren Dane manages not to diminish his 'manliness' or hunk-factor. In fact, funny enough, this little bit of a weak spot, on this particular guy is mighty appealing.........weird?

Fiercely stimulating and passionate, and a fantastic quick read!

(I received an advance copy in exchange for an honest review)

When I saw this book cover and title I had a feeling it was going to be a steamy romance.  And I was definitely right!  Lauren Dane has done it again with this novella for Harlequin's new Cosmo Red-Hot Reads line!

What I loved about this novella is the characters.  Gregori is a sexy artist who looks like the ultimate bad boy - mohawk, tattoos, and piercings.  But deep down he's a serious guy, he's passionate about his art but he knows he is surrounded by people that just want to use him (to get into clubs or for money). Being an artist at a young age, Gregori has come to accept that this is how his life will always be.  Wren Davis is an art student who makes deliveries to Gregori for his assistant, Kelsey (who is Wren's cousin). Wren is a smart and independent girl.  She's sexy and classy, nothing like Gregori's ex-wife and the groupies that hang around him.  I loved that Wren was a strong female character, not the girl that when things got bad she didn't lock herself in her room.  Wren deals with the disappointment but goes right after what she wants (in her career and in Gregori).

I also loved Wren and Gregori's story.  Over a year they slowly develop a friendship. Gregori recognizes that Wren is not like everyone else, she's someone who understands and respects his art.  She's not hanging around to use him for her career, but she does want to use him for other things (hot and sexy things!).  I loved that this story wasn't about one night stands between the Gregori and Wren.  This was about them moving toward being more than friends!
But what I didn't like about this novella was that it was too short.  At only 87 pages, it wasn't long enough to include other subplots.  If it was longer I would have been able to connect with the characters.  I really liked Kelsey and Zoe (Wren's roommate) so it would have been great to read about their friendship.

This was well written and Lauren Dane wrote another passionate and sexy story!  I love her Chase Brother's Series, so I will definitely read more from her.  So if you are looking for a quick, hot romance then check this out!

Who doesn't love cake? I can almost always find room for a slice

Who doesn't love cake? I can almost always find room for a slice when it's this tasty.

Although, the frequently nibbled sweets in this novella were more macaroons than cake.

Disclaimer #1 - I received a free ARC of this novella via NetGalley and Harlequin in exchange for an honest review.

Disclaimer #2 - I'm (barely) acquainted with Lauren Dane; I hosted her during her Once and Again blogtour, and enjoyed drinks at the same table for a few hours last year.

What I loved about this novella: the romance has developed slowly; at the novella opens, Wren, an art school student and part-time bicycle messenger in Seattle, and Gregori, the famous Russian artist she frequently delivers to, have known each other for a year, and been flirting for a year. They still do not hop right into bed, but the tension and attraction between them is allowed to build deliciously.

Gregori is a multi-media young artist - paintings, sculpture, and more, and cultivates a bad-boy persona that Wren sees right through, but also doesn't judge; she understand it's necessary for him to put on a mask as artiste from time to time. Wren herself is an up-and-coming graphic artist who, unlike many of Gregori's hangers-on, isn't trying to milk him for contacts or assistance. She's grittily determined to make it on her own. Wren is also sexually uninhibited and unafraid to pursue what she wants - and she wants Gregori. Gregori is very attracted to Wren, but he's afraid of ruining their friendship, so he tries to keep her at arm's distance with tea, cake, and macaroons.

The tension sizzles, and the sex scenes are smokin' hot; my only problem is sometimes Dane switches POV in the middle of a sex scene and it's hard to tell whose head I am now in. This was exacerbated for me by some formatting issues - missing paragraph breaks, some words that ran together - which I am assuming will be corrected before the final version is released.

I also liked the intimate friendship among Wren, her cousin Kelsey, and her roommate Zoe, the girlish sharing of all the juicy details. The style is light, it's a very fast read, and very sexy. If you like tattooed artists with bright red Mohawks and sexy accents, and confident, bold heroines who have their own interests, you'll love this story.

The first book I have read by this author, and it was just a per

The first book I have read by this author, and it was just a perfect slice of story that lived up to the title of Cake.  Lauren Dane has crafted a short story that doesn’t skimp on characters or action, and uses the build of sexual tension between the two lead characters to build steamy scenes that add to, not detract from the overall plotting.

Wren is strong, determined and no shrinking violet: a refreshing and solid portrayal of a young woman with self-reliance and self-esteem that is willing to take a chance to get what she wants. Not afraid of hard work or speaking her mind, Wren is an easy to like character with a sassy mouth and straightforward manner.

Gregori is a man using his persona to keep distractions and his own vulnerabilities at bay. Long used to the fame his art has provided, and the perks that come with fame, his determination to keep everyone at arm’s length only to see his superficial bad boy is his one goal.  When Wren waltzes in and storms through the carefully contrived walls, the two find electricity and potential for more.

Short but not stinting on character development or emotion, this is a fun and quick summer read that will keep readers flipping pages to the end.  As the introduction to Dane’s work, it certainly has me putting her titles on my to be read list!

I received an eBook copy from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Before you get into the novella there's a letter from the author

Before you get into the novella there's a letter from the author to the readers. I'm glad that I read it and didn't skip over it. She makes a declaration about Gregori that absolutely loved. "He's worth knowing, and she's worth being loved..."

Our main characters are both artists but in different stages of their artistic development and careers. Wren is still in art school and works as a bike messenger. Gregori is a Russian immigrant and a successful artist who was fortunate enough to sell his first art piece at 15 years of age. They met a year ago when Wren started making deliveries to him.

Their working relationship results in a slow and safe growing friendship. Towards the end of Chapter 1 Wren and Gregori have a really fun and sexy banter. Wren decides that she wants Gregori, maybe not for HEA although she wouldn't be adverse if that happened."He gets so intense when he's working," Wren tells her friends. "All that focus on what he's doing. It's so sexy. Makes me wonder -" LIKE EVERY TWENTY MINUTES " - if he's that intense in the sack."

Before Wren finds out whether or not he is that intense, she has to convince Gregori to risk their safe but flirtatious friendship. The back and forth relationship with his ex-wife, Prentiss has worn him down even though he enjoyed the ex-sex with her. "Prentiss was someone he'd known, intimately, for several years. Sometimes that was comforting. Not so much these days. He'd grown up, but she hadn't. It was less exciting and more vexing" Gregori reflects.

She makes him laugh, challenges him and understands his art so eventually they progress into a sexual relationship. And it's steamy. They meld their individual and mutual work dynamics with their other interests and develop a routine. I like that we got to see this development. Of course, Gregori doesn't do relationships and gets nervous that he'll lose Wren when she realizes that.

"He remained skittish but it didn't really bother her. She knew without a doubt that what they had, that connection, was something special. Wren wasn't in any great hurry to name it. It was what it was and that was all right with her."

Gregori tries to get them back to before, when they were just friends. But Wren is not having that and I had to give her mad props for how she handles him pushing her away.
"We click. That's chemistry and compatibility. It's not going away tomorrow. I'm not with you for your money or your connections. You don't have to guard that from me. I have no machinations except to get you out of that towel and into bed. I have my own life and I want you in it. But you're not all of it. I don't need a man to live through. I just want one - you - to share it. I'm not always easy. But damn it, I'm worth it. And you're worth it.

It came back to this again, this concept of being worth knowing and worth being loved. I really enjoyed how Wren convinced Gregori of this.

The cover is HOT - I love images like that that don't show full faces but give you  a certain feeling before you even start the book. Very eye catching.
The Characters are good, strong and entertaining, you get to know them well and Gregori is fantastic. He is like no other character I have read about before and it's refreshing. I had a heck of a time picturing him though and it wasn't from lack of description but more from my own lack of vision. I had to hit Google and found what i needed.  Brandon Pereyda as Gregori
The story was good. It was simple, short and sweet ad hot. I like the comments about the ex wife...too funny!"...wearing a skirt so short if she took a deep breath the entire street would know her as well as her gynecologist."
Gregori is strong, determined, stubborn and likes his sweets, as well as his women.
Wren is one stubborn cookie herself. She is independent, confidant and lovely.
Kelsey is funny. I love her honesty, wit and her fire - she is protective and strong willed.
The Writing Style was good, clear and easy to get through.

Would I recommend this book or series...yes, it's a short, sweet little read and leaves you with a good feeling. I look forward to reading more of this author's books and getting to know more of her characters :)

    BOOK SYNOPSIS

From New York Times bestselling author Lauren Dane comes the latest release from Cosmo Red-Hot Reads from Harlequin.

She won’t be satisfied with just one bite...

Art student-slash-bike messenger Wren Davis pursues what she wants. And what she wants now is Gregori Ivanov, rock star of the Seattle art scene. With his tattoos, piercings and sensual sneer, Gregori is the ultimate bad boy. Wren’s gotten to know the man beneath the body art, too—and it only makes her crave him more.

But Gregori loves women like he loves cake and champagne—intensely, but only for the moment. And after Wren experiences just how scorching sex with Gregori is, she’s determined to show him that just one taste won’t be enough...

    My Thoughts

Okay so I am a sucker for a sexy accent, sue me!

Gregori Ivanov embodies pretty much every good thing that Lauren Dane creates when she pens a male leading character, the man is good looking without being a "pretty boy", he has a nicely proportioned and healthily defined body, his tattoos are striking, his sense of humor is a bit skewed to the naughty, he is artistic, his sexual prowess is off the charts hot and he has made his own fortune from his talents.

Wren Davis is not a typical female like others in Gregori's circle, she has her own mind, loves to laugh, can hold her own in a conversation about what she does and does not like about his creations and most of all she only wants him for himself and not what he can do for her or what he can give her.

As short as this story is it still has the ability to pull you into the characters emotions, it lets us learn just enough about both their motivations for their actions to connect with Gregori and Wren's POV and most of all it gives fans of the author exactly the kind of flirtatious naughty sexy read that we expect from one of her works!
