Just as Camile loses hope on learning the particulars about her past, she makes a shocking discovery which reveals her entire life has been a carefully constructed web of deceit. Almost simultaneously, she experiences strange occurrences that shred the fabric of her reality. She blames these incidents on her extreme stress and hyperactive imagination. As the lies continue to unravel, startling facts emerge-bringing terrible heartache, confusion, and despair.
Facing a powerful nemesis, Camile must find the strength within herself to discover the truth. Failing could bring deadly consequences.
Camile Leon doesn't recall anything from her childhood. All she remembers is the rejection she faced in high school and the feel of being incomplete. She finally pressures her mom to tell her everything- what happened to her father, why is she different, and what was her childhood like- but her mom slips into a weird coma. All Camile has to figure out her mystery are a picture of her and her father, the mysterious necklace he gave her, and her new friend Akalina. I liked the book a lot and I'm interested in the sequel, the only thing is that the majority of the story is about how Camile is trying to find out who she is, but nothing is explained until the very end. Even then there were things left that will hopefully be explained in the next book. However, I enjoyed the characters, and the pieces of Camile's new world the author has revealed so far.

You don't have to be a science fiction/fantasy fan to appreciate this amazing story of one woman's journey of self discovery.
Shykia's writing style transports the reader directly into the pages, so much so that you feel you can reach out and touch the characters and the scenery. Weeks and months after putting this book down you will still have these characters and places in your mind. This ability is paramount for the writer to connect to their readers and Shykia has it in bucket loads! The lead character in this book is someone who many people will relate to on many levels and I can't wait to see what happens to these vivid characters in the next book. Keep writing Shykia and I wish you every success!
Camile Leon is a young woman searching for the truth about her past and her MIA father. The only thing she has of her father is a photograph and a mysterious necklace. When she tries to broach the subject with her mother Kylie, Kylie ducks and dodges the questions never giving Camile a straight answer. When Camile pushes a little too hard for answers, her mother ends up in a coma, leaving Camile to go on a journey to seek out the truth of her past.

When strange things begin to happen, she begins to question her sanity. In the quest to find the answers to her past she learns that the life that she knew was nothing but a lie, carefully constructed to cover up something so bizarre that when she finds out the truth, she will be forever changed.

Shykia Bell is a masterful storyteller. Her writing reminds me so much of the storyteller Clive Barker; they both have very active imaginations that can weave a story together that will have you glued to the pages. She did a wonderful job in her debut novel and I look forward to reading more in this series. This is a book that I couldn't put down. There were so many twists and turns that it left me stunned at the end. I thought this book was excellent and I would recommend it to anyone that loves to read books of the supernatural.

Reviewed by: LeonaR

I read this book awhile ago to review for my site ( bookjunkiereviews.blogspot.com ) and all I could say when I finished was wow...

Camile Leon has always wanted to know more about her father, Zephyr. One day she's finally had enough of her mother's evasiveness and side-stepping everything about him and confronts her with the intent to learn everything. But when her mother ends up in the hospital, Camile once again loses to chance to learn about him. When Camile goes to her mother's apartment to get some clothes for her, she finds a mysterious necklace. The same necklace she's wearing in the only photo she has of her father. She also meets Akalina a young woman Camile soon starts to realize she has more in common with than she realizes. While dealing her mother's unexplainable coma and her newly discovered, mysterious powers, Camile has to learn to be strong and see through the deception that seems to have plagued her life.

This book is very unique. It's such an original idea and it's very well written. But I have to admit what I like most is the last part of the book, starting after chapter 17. After a while I was like "Whoa! This is Raiders of the Lost Ark". You know "Let's push this button in the wall here while someone else pushes the button over here and then this huge sword thing will pop out and we have to figure out how to pass it with the buttons still pushed" kind of thing. I mean it's Indiana Jones, if Shykia had just added a light saber or two, maybe even a sith, this would have easily been my favorite-est book ever! Lol
It isn't a young adult book, but teens could read it. There's cussing and one sex scene, but it wasn't detailed so teens could read it.
Camileon is not a stand alone book, it's a triology. How cool is that?
All in all an awesome debut novel by Shykia Bell. Go read the first three chapters on Shykia's MySpace ( www.myspace.com/shykiabell ) and check out Camileon's website ( www.camileon-thebook.com )

Camileon is one of those books that once you start reading it you just can¿t stop. I don¿t usually read a lot of science fiction books but I really enjoyed this one and it makes me want read more of them. All of the characters are surrounded by clouds of mystery that you want to get through to discover the truth and more about each person. At first Camile¿s character comes off as kinda whinny and insecure, however as I read more I began to understand her and really enjoy her character. I loved the way the author described everything in the story so that you could picture each scene in your head. The ending of the book was great the author explained everything while also leaving a few clues about what¿s to be expected next in Camile¿s story. Camileon is the first in a new series by debut author Shyia Bell. I¿m positive that its going to be a great series so be sure to pick up a copy soon.
