"Cold Moon Rising (Cry Wolf #1.5)" by Sarah Makela
4 out of 5 stars
This novella is worth the read. If you liked the story in the first book of the Cry Wolf series, then this one is a must read. Makela expands the supernatural community by introducing the characters of Jacob and Kelly. These two are college students and best friends with an attraction that can't be denied. As the full moon approaches, Jacob (a wolf member of Ethan's new pack), is finding it even harder to fight his feelings for Kelly. A misunderstanding leads to an argument and Jacob storms out. When Kelly is mistaken for someone else and kidnapped, he'll do anything to save her. Will Jacob rescue her before it's too late or will her life be forever altered?
I have to admit that I liked this book a lot better than the first one in the series. The pacing is much better, the characters connect a lot easier, (both with each other and with the reader), and the story line is more solid. Makela seems to have found her groove with this one and I really enjoyed it.
Jacob hits all the right buttons. He's smart, charming, great looking, strong, and the list goes on. He is very protective of Kelly and wants to make her his. He's willing to face dangerous circumstances to rescue her and put his life on the line if need be. This is a character that I can really invest in and root for.
Kelly's strength is what defines her. She's not afraid to stand up to Jacob and she won't let her spirit be crushed. She fights tooth and nail against her captors and refuses to give up. She accepts her new life with grace and determination and a hint of wonder. Kelly is the perfect match for Jacob and their chemistry is off the charts.
Makela is in her stride here. I couldn't put this novella down and I am really looking forward to Jacob and Kelly's story continuing. I connected with these two characters and their adventure and I can't wait to read more.

This riveting read is a mesmerizing and action packed quick shifter romance. The author has created a wonderful shifter world full of action and suspense that holds the reader in its grip. I really enjoyed the short read even if I do think it was too short and there is a major cliffhanger, of course that means that will be impatiently waiting for next one.

This is book 1.5 in the series and would seem to run concurrently with book 1 so it doesn't matter which is read
first because there is not much of a tie in. The shifter world that is being described in these books while it is
recognisable has it's own twist on the paranormal world, which once again will captivate you and keep you
from first to last word.
Kelly and Jacob make a wonderful couple though at the beginning they are only friends with feelings.
I liked both these characters the way that Kelly had the strength to fight what was happening to her, but
the wisdom to accept what had happened, and Jacob, that even though he didn't understand at the beginning
he respected Kelly, but when something happened then he was rushing to her rescue. And the bad guys were
bad no in betweens here you know who is good and who is bad, but why do I have a feeling we might not
always be so sure. But the chemistry between these Kelly and Jacob was wonderful. I can't wait to find out what
happens as this was definitely a cliffhanger making us look forward with great expectations to the next book.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
It's not very often that I love a book this much. I really like most of what I read, but it takes something special for to really love a story. The only thing wrong with this book is that it isn't long enough! It has all of the things I want in a story; supernatural characters, romance, suspense, and a little bit of science. I fell in love with these characters. I'm jealous of Kelly because she gets to be with Jacob. He should be mine. I hope there story continues, because I was left with such a cliffhanger. Sarah Makela has just made my list of authors to pay attention to.

***I was given this copy of Cold Moon Rising in exchange for my open and honest review ***
In Cold Moon Rising Sarah Makela brings us back into her world of paranormal romance, where anything can happen and surprises hide behind every door. This story introduces us to Kelly and Jacob, two college students who both have their own secrets, and their struggle to have a relationship together.
Kelly is a shy, innocent and slightly insecure woman who is head over heels in love with her best friend, and study partner Jacob. For ever a year Jacob had been the one consistent piece of Kelly’s life, he had been her rock and her sounding-board. Kelly fights an internal battle with her intense ever-growing feelings for Jacob. Not only is Jacob smart, funny, and handsome head over heels in love with Kelly, but he has an internal battle going on within his own mind and body; he’s a werewolf.
One night when a study session turned make-out session gets very hot and heavy between them Kelly (unsure about her readiness to take the next step in a physical relationship) freaks out and pushes Jacob away. This turns out to be just the first fight Kelly and Jacob will endure, as a case of mistaken identity lead to Kelly being kidnapped and Jacob as the only witness to this crime, as become her only hope of getting out alive. Kelly who was clueless about Jacob’s animal side existed, gets a crash course in the world of the things to go bump in the night and howl at the moon, when she’s bitten by a werewolf. Now Jacob faces a giant battle to try and get them both out of their unidentified nemesis’s hands.
Now Jacob’s soul goal has just become getting Kelly out and away from danger alive and by his side.
I give Cold Moon Rising a total of four and a half stars because of the ending. Unfortunately it’s very abrupt and doesn’t even have a clear cliff-hanger. It just ends.
I would recommend this book if you are looking for a good, fun, emotionally intense read and don’t mind an abrupt ending. So buckle up and join Jacob and Kelly in this action packed short story full of love, butt-kicking survival skills and intense attraction.

I was given this book by the author Sarah Mäkelä for an honest review. This is a short novella in the Cry Wolf series.
Kelly and Jacob are in college and are study mates for a couple classes but 1 night Kelly is drugged and kidnapped by 2 men who think she is someone else. Jacob smells her scent and follows them to a place he thinks is a military compound as he is trying to figure out how to save her.
The ending was an abrupt stopping cliffhanger, I found this to be a little disheartening but I enjoyed reading this book. The characters and drama worked out very well in this book.
This book contains action, romance and a race against the moon phases. If you like your paranormal with action then you will like this and to get the whole feel of the series it is best to start with book 1.
