Children's Literature - Leslie Greaves Radloff
Author C.S. Lewis is well known for his "Chronicles of Narnia" series, which has been made into movies, television movies and plays that are popular with children and adults alike. A snapshot of his life and marriage to poet Joy Davidman Gresham was the subject of the movie Shadowlands. This slight, 21-page biography will satisfy readers who may be reading Lewis books or need a biography to read for a class project, or the classroom teacher who wants background for introducing Lewis to the students. Lewis's life is told in segments of two pages with enough information to find out a little about the man, his friends, family, life at school, the meetings and talks with J.R.R. Tolkien that transformed his faith life, and how he came to write the Narnia books. A glossary is included and the requisite websites. Text is easy to read and sentence construction is a cut above many biographies in series. Titles of other C.S. Lewis books are included in the text, which could introduce readers to his other series and writings. This title is part of the "Children's Authors" series and follows the same format. This would be a good addition to school and classroom libraries, especially where "author studies" are part of the curriculum. Reviewer: Leslie Greaves Radloff
