In the introduction, the authors invite girls to explore their world, which they warn is "bigger than you can imagine," and they deliver a resource that will help them to do just that. The pages that follow are filled with interesting activities to try and important facts they may not know, but are sure to keep them busy for hours. The authors cover everything from making a lemon-powered clock to the history of writing and cursive, from how to paddle a canoe to the Periodic Table of the Elements in clear, thoughtful language that readers of all ages are sure to embrace. There is a very subtle "girls can do anything" message. Many of the activities do require adult supervision and that is stated clearly on the verso page in the note to parents. This is a volume that will get passed down from girl to girl for years to come. An entertaining and informative companion to Conn Iggulden and Hal Iggulden's The Dangerous Book for Boys (Collins, 2007).

Meet the Author

Andrea Buchanan is the mother of a daughter and a son, both of whom are equally daring. Before she was a writer, she was a pianist who once performed a solo concert at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall. This is her fifth book.

Miriam Peskowitz is the mother of two girls, including an eight-year-old who climbs trees and leads spy missions in the backyard. She has been a camp counselor, an historian, a blogger, a musician, a professor, and is the author of several books, including The Truth Behind the Mommy Wars.

    Getting my cousins into plenty of trouble!

    My cousin has 3 kids - 6, 8, and 9, girl, boy, girl. For Christmas I got them The Double Daring Book for Girls, The Dangerous Book for Boys, and The Daring Book for Girls respectively. The boy was hooked as soon as he saw a project that included a Swiss Army Knife. The girls immediately sat down with me and we looked through both books in their entirety. They can't wait to try out the projects and activities and kept calling out to their dad and uncle all the things they're going to do. There was also a bit of "Girls rule, boys drool" flying back and forth as they compared books. I'd say they were definitely a hit!

    Okay

    OKAY so mybe this book is a little pricy, maybe i should have gotten the double daring book for girls. With just a little more, but I love this. It has Latin Roots and games and toolbox stuff.Really good. But i recomend the 2nd one.

    highly recommended

    I love this book! As well as my eight year old daughter! We have given it as a gift and were told what an exceptional book it was. It is the perfect book for a young, inquisitive, growing mind. I love the diversification of information! Sure to help in grooming a well rounded child.

    I will never understand why some authors think that their readers are ignorant. In the section ' French terms of endearment', there are two mistakes : no, 'Ma petite chou' is not correct and no, we do not say ' Quand les poulETS auront des dents '. These mistakes make me think that there are many others that I cannot verify and it turns me off totally !

    I don't have it on the nook but i do have it somewhere in my house. But if you diside you want it, its a great book.     just what i need!!!!!!

    judging by the title, this is exactly what i need! I am not the most daring girl on the planet, so i could use this book. i'll ask my dad for it right away! i recommend this book to scaredy-cats like me. Enjoy!!!!!!!
