Overview

The International Diagnostic Course in Davos (IDKD) offers a unique learning experience for imaging specialists in training as well as for experienced radio- gists and clinicians wishing to be updated on the current state of the art and the latest developments in the fields of imaging and image-guided interventions. This annual course is focused on organ systems and diseases rather than on modalities. This year’s program deals with diseases of the abdomen and pelvis. During the course, the topics are discussed in group seminars and in plenary s- sions with lectures by world-renowned experts and teachers. While the seminars present state-of-the-art summaries, the lectures are oriented towards future dev- opments. Accordingly, this Syllabus represents a condensed version of the contents p- sented under the 20 topics dealing with imaging and interventional therapies in - dominal and pelvic diseases. The topics encompass all the relevant imaging mod- ities including conventional X-rays, computed tomography, nuclear medicine, - trasound and magnetic resonance angiography, as well as image-guided interventional techniques. The Syllabus is designed to be an ‘aide-mémoire’for the course participants so that they can fully concentrate on the lecture and participate in the discussions without the need of taking notes.

Description: This is the syllabus for the 2006 International Diagnostic Course in Davos (IDKD) held each year in Davos, Switzerland. Additionally, it includes the Pediatric Satellite Course syllabus, which was also held in Davos.
Purpose: The purpose of the syllabus is to serve as a memory aid for those who attended the conference. This is achieved by incorporating into the syllabus condensed versions of the 20 topics discussed.
Audience: Those who attended IDKD 2006 will find this book most beneficial. However, the syllabus does offer a condensed reference source on the current state and newest developments in techniques for abdominal and pelvic imaging for residents and practitioners.
Features: The 20 topics covered at the IDKD 2006 conference focused on the diseases of the major abdominal and pelvic organ systems. Since each topic is condensed in the syllabus, a complete review of the organ system was not possible. As the author states in the preface, the syllabus is to be an "aide-memoir" and not a complete in-depth text. Some topics have very few or no images, such as the section on CT colonography which has none.
Assessment: Perhaps more images of the discussed pathology and techniques would have served the authors purpose as a memory aid more fully.
