Great Character Development In A Truly Unique World
I have to admit, I am a sucker for all things dragon. *swoons* When I found out that one of my favorite authors, Jaime Rush, was writing a paranormal romance series featuring dragons I squeed like the fangirl I am. Really it's a win-win for me.
I am a HUGE fan of Ms. Rush's Offspring series. It ranks up there in the top ten best series ever for me and that's saying something because I read a lot. You never know what you're going to get when a beloved author starts writing in a new world but the prequel novellas (Dragon Mine and Dragon Rising) for The Hidden trilogy were awesome so I was beyond stoked for Dragon Awakened. Sadly I didn't like it as much as I'd hoped I would and honestly I'm not sure why.
Dragon Awakened had everything that usually works in paranormal romance for me; super hot dragon hero, kick ass heroine, fast-paced action, unique world building, and a little smexy time thrown in. So what didn't work? The difference in a 3 and 4 star rating really fell on the ending of the book. I felt it was a bit rushed and predictable and I wanted more. I really felt like Ruby and Cyntag's story wasn't finished. That being said, the ending would have been perfection if this were an urban fantasy series and book two, Magic Possessed, picked up where Dragon Awakened left off. Unfortunately, that isn't the case.
Dragon Awakened had great character development and the world is truly unique. I look forward to learning more about this world and seeing what direction The Hidden is going as there is loads-and-loads of potential. I'm just sad that Cyntag and Ruby's story is over. I really, really liked them and wanted more about Ruby's destiny than what I got.

I love all things shifter and dragon shifters are my favorite, so when I saw this book I knew I had to read it. Upon the death of her uncle, Ruby begins to discover that most of her life was a lie and that the stories she was read as a child may actually be her future in disguise. Ruby is strong, compassionate and a force to be reckoned with. Cyn, is a very old dragon shifter with a past he is not proud of. Thrown together to save the world, they find true love along the way.
It becomes clear very early on that the only way that Ruby is going to find her HEA is by giving forgiveness. Forgiveness that seems almost impossible to give. I admit it. I thought it was going to be an insta love conquers all book. I was so wrong. The message Jaime conveys about forgiveness is so powerful I am still thinking about it a week later. That is not to say this book is preachy or teachy. It is far from both of those things. It is hot, adventure filled and suspenseful. The world is different enough to keep my interest, yet familiar enough to feel comfortable.
While this is labeled as book one in a series, I feel like I read a complete book. While I would like for the next book to be released so that I can read it, it is not necessary. There are no evil cliffhangers to keep you stalking Jaime's website.

BRILLIANT! It's nearly impossible to find a NEW paranormal romance series--if you've read one vampire/werewolf/fallen angel series, you've read them all!
Jaime Rush does it though--Dragons, Deuces (Sorcerers), Angels, oh my! Her world is amazing & so smoothly written I just jumped right in & never wanted to leave.
Super-sexy alpha male hero who was clever, and compassionate, and not at all brutish. Strong, intelligent female heroine who makes me cheer throughout!
A super-clever start to a fantastic series. The best part? Having all 3 books in the trilogy published one right after the other--Dec, Jan, Feb...so I don't have to WAIT!
Snap these up--they're awesome reads!

New to me author -
This book had a very slow start to it. We have Ruby whose parents were murdered and she is living with
her uncle who is a dragon shifter. She never believed her uncle in regards to magic and dragons as she
herself had nothing. Well that all changes when she witnesses her Uncle being killed in a horrible way.
His last words to her were she was to find Cyntag. Well Ruby eventually comes into her powers and is
able to shift. She also learns it was Cyntag who murdered her family but left her alive and found her a place
Cyntag takes Ruby under his wing so to speak. His dragon has also recognized Ruby’s dragon as its mate.
But this relationship is not quick in growing. Ruby is a firecracker that’s for sure.
The romance is slow to go also which is nice but when these 2 finally give in to their feelings the Passions is
I found following along in the beginning was very hard to do and I think that’s one of the reasons I
can’t give the book 5 stars. Once it gets going though you have a ton of action and Cyntag and Rubys
fierceness in tracking down her uncle’s murderer as well as Cyntag helping her with her new found powers.

I thought this was a fantastic blend of epic fantasy and paranormal romance. I LOVED it and can hardly wait for the next installment. Where to start… Hunky hero? Spunky heroine? Incredible world building? Check. Check. And check. Plenty of interesting secondary characters to build the next book on? Check. Dragons, Demons, Elementals, Magick users and angels, and more? Yep. Go forth and read this fantastic first book in a new series. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

Hot, romantic, and thrilling, Dragon Awakened was a fantastic paranormal romance. I really enjoyed reading this book and I totally loved it. After all, who can say no to a hot dragon?
Ruby was a great heroine. She was tough and held her own, though she knew when to (reluctantly) admit that she needed help. She was strong and a worthy heroine. I really liked her.
Cyn was wonderful. He was unapologetic about his past and who he was. He might not be proud of how many people he killed as a guard on the paranormal police force, but neither would he deny it. Despite that, he was a truly good man at heart who did what he believed was right. He was sweet and devoted to what and who he cared about. I thought he was amazing.
The romance was great. Ruby and Cyn were really sweet together. I thought it was sweet how they fell in love despite a VERY big reason not to. And, the chemistry between them was hot. Even though they were reluctant to act on it, there were always sparks flying between them. They were lovely together.
The plot was fast paced and I was hooked the entire way through. There were tons of thrills that kept me on the edge of my seat. I really enjoyed the story and the ending has me curious to see what comes up next in the dragon world.
Dragon Awakened was a fantastic paranormal romance. It was thrilling, romantic, and thoroughly enjoyable. Lovers of romance, if you want a lovely paranormal read, then this is a book you'll want to check out.

Welcome to a fantastic new magical world co-existing with our reality in Dragon Awakenend.
Jamie Rush creates a marvelously imaginative paranormal back drop for the beings known as the “Hidden”. The Hidden are the descendants of “gods” and are called the Dragons, Deuces (human like sorcerers) and the Angels.
Twenty years ago Cyn saves a young girl named Ruby and now she needs his help. Someone is trying to kill her and it all goes back to the fateful day when her parents were killed. Cyn and Ruby must find the people behind her parents murders and figure out why they were targets in the first place to now save Ruby from the same fate. Uncovering a much more sinister plan, Cyn and Ruby will be fighting for their lives and the lives of the Hidden.
Rush provides and action packed plot with exciting but complicated romantic chemistry between Cyn and Ruby. Dragon Awakened is a vivid and fascinating introduction into the world of the Hidden...a world you won't want to miss.
I received this ARC copy of Dragon Awakened from Forever (Grand Central Publishing) in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication December 17, 2013.
