Meet the Author

I confess I've had a love affaire with vampires for several years now, especially warrior vampires, the kind found in the books of Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lara Adrian and JR Ward. Though I've been published in Regency Romance under the pseudonym Valerie King--and yes one of my Regency Novellas features a vampire--one day I woke up knowing I had to create my own contemporary world of the warrior vampire. For some mystical, magical reason, early in the process, my vampires appeared with enormous beautiful wings and it has been the most amazing experience to include flight in my novels, in both battle scenes and scenes involving spectacle. For more information about my unique take on the vampire mythos, check out my website at carisroane.com and my book release video on YouTube by putting in the search phrase, Caris Roane Ascension. With every hope you'll enjoy reading my books set in the World of Ascension, All my best, Caris Roane

Ebook given by literal addiction to do any honest review. Embrace the Dark is a short love story about taking chances and realizing what you've been missing. I have to be next with you, I was a little wary with starting this book but once I got through the first page I was already to finish the book. Gerrod is the Mastyr Vampire of the Merhaine realm and he takes his duties as ruler very, very seriously. He's honorable, caring, and down right lethal when it comes to protecting the "people" of his realm. But being a Mastyr Vimpire isn't all sunshine and flowers, no Gerrod has been blood starving for as long as he can remember and its gotten a lot worse in the last year. Abigail only wants to open up a bakery in the Merhaine Realm, she never imagined that she'd feel the way she does about the Mastyr Vampire of the realm. She has spent the last year trying to not want Gerrod but she sees him.. the real him and understands instinctively what he needs after a perfect night goes slightly wrong. For these two star crossed beings things are about to change, all they have to do is accept it or not. Nothing too hard about that except in between figuring out what's between them, they have to figure out what the evil Invictus are truly after. Because in the realm of Merhaine nobody is safe and Gerrod's people are going missing. I enjoyed this first book in the Blood Rose series way to much. The world Roane has created is both magical and dark, she's filled it with magical faes, extremely gossipy trolls, evil wraiths, the abominations called Invictus, and the all too sexy vampires who control it all. She injected so much humor into the story, but its not overwhelming. 4 1/2 black rose to EMBRACE THE DARK. I highly recommend this book. The world building is different and believable.

Loved the characters, loved the real world/ supernatural world existing side by side. I like pretty much everything this author writes.

This is a story full of world building, using mostly the leading characters, but some supporting characters as well, to give you a sense of an Earth with points of connection to the Realm, where Vampires, the Fae, and basically the mythical creatures we thought we made up really do exist. There are some phrases that are used in ways I simply never considered, like frequencies.  WOW!  Imagine if the person you truly love could FEEL it, pulsing from you, when they touch you, because you have a unique frequency, all your own, on which it travels, and they alone can tap into it!  It's because of these unique concepts, and takes on phrases we are used to reading in different ways that I had to adjust how I was used to, for example, reading the word frequency, and the context in which I was used to hitting the word.  Once I grabbed hold of how the author was using words, and concepts, I was totally taken in, and find myself wanting to explore these two places that both exist in the here and now... the Earth I am used to, and the Realm she has created atop and alongside it. I picked up the book when it was a free read on kindle... then got a copy in exchange for an honest review, and realized immediately it was one that had caught my interest back when I first read the description, the only thing that kept me from reading it immediately was too big a too be read stack. I've previously read Caris Roane's Men in Chains books, and there is significantly more world building here.  :)  If I could give this a 4.5 stars, I would... I always like to leave myself that little extra bit of room to be blown away... but this was a really fun read, and I loved having a leading lady who wasn't afraid to let her compassion and good heart show.

I received a gift copy of this.  Overall I thought the story and the characters were pretty entertaining.  It's not very long so she packed a lot of information into a few pages and it was quick read.  She kept my attention the entire time.  The sex scenes were kind of intense and left little to the imagination but that is typical and it didn't hinder the story.  I thought making a reference to Ascension was clever.  I enjoyed the book and will read the rest of her work.

Well written short story. This is a stand alone story but pulls you in so that you can't wait to read the next story in the series. I read this in one setting. The copy of this story I got in exchange for an honest review.
