So this is the jump off. I'm gonna start with the fundamentals: my ground zero for success. I call it the "Grand Aspiration Theory" -- the G.A.T. -- and it's pretty simple. It goes like this.

  1. High aspirations breed frustration.

  2. Frustration breeds motivation.

  3. Motivation pushes you to action -- whether you take tiny baby steps or huge strides.

  4. Action breeds confidence; you start to feel in control.

  5. Confidence is cumulative: Once you start acquiring it, you get more and more of it.

  6. Soon enough, you prove to yourself that you're a star who can surmount any obstacle and achieve whatever you decide you want to achieve with your life. You're on a roll!

And all this because at one point, you let yourself wish you had something that other people told you was way out of reach.

I've always had high aspirations. Even as a small kid, I was never satisfied with the status quo and was deeply competitive with myself: I always wanted to enhance things and make them better, and I pretty much always believed I could. Where this strong opinion of myself came from is hard to say. Partly it was due to my mom. She brought me up on her own in St. Louis, Missouri, and being a first-generation Asian immigrant, she had high expectations for her only child. Partly it came from my absentee dad. Since I didn't see much of my father, I subconsciously turned my insecurity into action and thought, "If I don't take charge of my life, nobody else will." I know all the statistics and what the numbers say about the benefits of a two-parent family, but it's not always the reality -- and I think it's fine either way. Since I was raised by my mother alone, I came out more empowered, not less. From what I saw, women were the center of the world! We are the center of the universe! I had the proof in my mother that a woman can do anything, even though the time, the situation, and everything else may be against her.

I'm a Taurus, which means I am acquisitive and pretty stubborn about doing things my way. So it's not surprising that the clues to my ambition started popping up pretty young in the one arena I had some control over -- style. When I was eight, my mom decided I should attend a Girl Scout summer camp outside St. Louis so that I'd keep busy during the day. She worked for the government as a social security administrator in charge of thirty people, and I normally went to babysitters after school, but summertime required more planning. The Girl Scout set-up was nothing fancy -- just a place where regular kids from town would go by school bus to scamper around the woods and learn how to tie things in knots. But when I heard the words "summer camp," I figured, "I'll do summer camp times ten." Where most kids were outfitted in sensible neutrals and navy-blue shorts, I insisted on a perfect, white-on-white sporting ensemble: a crisp Izod polo shirt, Jordache shorts with stripes on the side, and squeaky clean K-Swiss sneakers. The fact that white clothes require major upkeep when your daily activities include dodgeball and Twister in the grass didn't faze meone bit. If I had to use a toothbrush to keep those sneakers box fresh, so be it. Such was the price for style.

Some would call it picky; I'd call it a natural penchant for Fabulosity and a desire to rise above the rest. Why blend in with the ordinary? Why be happy with the same-old, same-old? If everyone else is rocking beige, it'd be just plain silly not to rock magenta.

My insistence on style at all costs was also a small act of rebellion. Although our house was long on female self-empowerment -- my mom was a self-made woman who always told me, "You can do anything" -- it was short on glamour. There wasn't much cash to throw around on frivolous things like fashion, so naturally that's what I wanted most. It drove my mom nuts because she hated to shop. She'd compromise by taking me to the one-stop shop where they had everything -- from shoelaces to hair bows. Once there, I had to unleash my own meticulous vision and go to major creative extremes to get the most bang for the buck. Since I was pre-pubescent, most of my fashion sense revolved around color, usually purple. (It was a Prince thing, I'm sure). I spent hours picking out the elements to make a complete monochrome ensemble: purple shirt, purple sweater, purple pants; purple socks, purple sneakers, and purple laces. I'd also carefully watch the way my older sister (from my father's previous marriage) put outfits together and use the funky pieces she passed down to me to create my own looks.

As I got more advanced, I developed a two-tone thing. Red and black perfectly alternated from head to toe: red shirt, black vest, red skirt, black tights. I had to match everything to the T, and the distribution of color had to be even. Mom would despair, "Kimora, you don't have to coordinate the exact same shades of red. You can wear a purse that's a different tone of the same shade." But I knew better. To be polished and pulled together, I had to be hooked up. I always remember it because everybody would talk about me -- I guess that's when I made the connection between style and power. (Maybe those rigid dress codes offer a glimpse of my psychology as well: Even today, I need order in all aspects of my life to keep chaos at bay. I'm all about lists, charts, polaroiding my outfits, and doing the numbers three times over.)

    You can RULE the world

    I just started to read this book but it is a real page turner.I love this book because it makes me feel like because I'm a woman i can do anything possible. I love that as a woman I have a guide to a level of sucess that i never thought was possible.

    FABULOUS!!!

    I absolutely LOVED this book! Not only did Kimora share ways on how to be fabulous and fashionable, but she also empowers women. The dialogue is so reminiscent of her demeanor and it feels like she is talking directly to you. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to be inspired by greatness.

    FEARCE

    This book was a key that unlocked many chains in my life. I am now free from limitations. Because of Fabulosity I now have true principles to live by and instructions on how to execute them. Fabulosity will always be on my shelf and in my heart as a reference guide for my life.

    This book is great. I love how she's encouraging women to put themselves out there instead of shrinking in the corner while someone else does all the work. She's crazy, but love her or hate her, her book is on point.

    My Bible!!

    Honey, I have been using the word Fabulosity for 3 years to describe myself..I heard it on the radio coming home from work....not knowing that it came from Kimora , who has always been my style maven... Upon finding out about the release of this book... I preordered it 3 weeks in advance, just because...and I am glad I did!! It truly is the definition of fabulousness, self-confidence and glamour... The book is designed for any girl needing a mirror put in front of her face to remind her of her power and worth. Kimora doesn't want her reader to pattern herself after her, but rather to use her as an example of a person considered less than special, less than beautiful by others and decided on her own that their opinion didn't define her self-image, but she did, with flair... This is the same emotion Kimora wants to evoke in her readers that regardless of what someone else says is beauty, it truly is in the eyes of the beholder, One's self....With Love Enjoy! A HUGE FAN

    She is too dope!

    Kimora Lee Simmons is so dope to me! I love her! At first I was among some of the people who doubted her talents and thought nothing of her except of the fact that she was a trophy wife. Can we say hater )? But I digress. After reading the article with her inthe new issue of Vibe Vixen. I fell in love with her exotic beauty, candor, & style. I don't have her book yet but after reading the sample chapter & knowing that my girl is a taurus like me. I am definitely going to the nearest bookstore to find out how I too can become an enterprising entrepreneur living the fabulous life!

She is down to earth, to the point and matter of fact.     If you didn't read the book, shut up.

    I will be honest, I didn't really like Kimora at all. Her high scale personality on her show really threw me off and I never liked her. But a friend of mine insisted that I read the book and begged me to give her a chance. So I did. And I can say the book is fantastic. I don't think her marrying a rich man had absolutly anything to with her success. It may have helped but even without him, she would have made it fine (she was already a well known model). Her book should be read by any woman out there that has either questioned her "fabulosity" or is down right out of her womenhood. This book highly boosted my convidence and the way I look at myself. I love this book and I have changed what I think about Kimora. If i ever meet her, I will love to praise her for this book. Please ladies that like to hate, if you didn't read the book don't talk crap! And if you read the book and you're still talking crap then you are obviously not getting what the book is about and you are jealous (sorry ladies lets just be real).

    Seems like it would make a great joke

    Marrying someone wealthy and getting a shiny book published doesn't make someone a good writer. This book is fun to joke about in conversation. It's pretty upsetting that people take stuff likes this seriously.

    This book came at the most opportune time!

    This book entered my life at the most opportune time in my life... when I thought I was losing my mind, self-worth, value, and just totally losing my focus. It made me re-evaluate who I was and understand how I have ducked into a miserable corner. Many may hate on her technique... but there is nothing in this book I do not agree with... she is definately doing her thing. And for those that read it know she is a true woman... because to gain power you share your knowledge and she is definately sharing hers. GREAT book for women of all ages, it is NEVER too late to reinvent yourself.

    The best self help book in years!

    After reading this book, I felt some much better and recommended to all my other book reader friends. The book is wonderful, It's a self help and semi-autobiography and it gives good ideas on how to improve your self, Kimora has done a wonderful job.

    Fix or healing

    I bought this book after reading Star Jones Reynolds book SHINE. I truly admired and loved Kimoras' style and looks but after reading half of the book I sure was glad when I lost it at the airport. This book does not deal with any deep rooted issues that every woman goes thru. On speaking with a couple of women who read this book, I found a common trend. Anybody who acknowledged a mightier power understands the danger in having this shallow mindset. It is very obvious to me that Kimora has not seen the other side of life and even though she has worked for all she has, she has been eluded by life¿s true experiences. I truly believe that if you are trying to improve yourself, the best course of action is to detox all the junk out of your system and then fill yourself with positive affirmations and beliefs. You have to be in a position where you really evaluate yourself inside and outside and begin to de-root the source of your issues. Before buying this book, ask yourself, are you trying to get a FIX or are you looking for healing¿Yes, she is intoxicating but what happens when the high wears off¿have you dealt with your issues? Yes, Kimora is smart, has a great sense of style, is elegant and all that, but role model?¿.NO¿She should stick to what she does best and leave the self help part to the gurus. I truly recommend Star Jones Reynolds book, SHINE!!!!.

    Confidence

    This book is definately fabulous. You will move mountains after you read this book. If you haven't purchased your copy yet what are you waiting for! Go for it!

    Think Positive

    I read this book in one sitting and absolutely loved it. She explains how important we all are and that we can be goddesses as well. A must read.

    The Man is the Head and the Woman is the Neck

    There is an African Proverb that states that the man is the head of the family and the woman is the neck. The neck supports and tells the head where to go and it must follow. Mrs. Kimora Lee Simmons is quite the example of this proverb. Her book begins with excitiment and you can feel the 'can do' spirit on each page. As an empowerment speaker and author, I highly recommend this book to girls and women all over.
