Fire on Ice (Fire on Ice #1) by Dakota Madison 5 of 5 Stars Kian Kavanagh is the center the Firestorm, a new professional hockey team in Northern Arizona.  He has his choice of women but is intrigued by the college girl who is studying at the local bar. Taylor Thompson was traumatized by her high school hockey player boyfriend.  She hasn’t dated anyone in the three years since they broke up concentrating on her major. The two seem like an unlikely couple but can they deny their attraction for one another? I loved this book.  Dakota Madison did a spectacular job in describing Kian and Taylor’s emotions.  Her primary and secondary characters are multidimensional giving the book a remarkable and believable story. I read this book in one sitting and did not want it to end.   I was so glad that there is a sequel, The Playmaker.  ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

: I can never get tired of these stories. Love them. A hot semi-professional hockey player meets a sweet girl at a bar (love those scenes) where she is reading her textbook (doing homework/research) for her psychology class. Kian, knows he can get any girl, anytime especially since he is a famous hockey player in town. What he doesn’t know is that Taylor has no interest in getting involved with a guy especially one that is a hockey player. Taylor had something happen to her 3 years before that has made her leery of men especially ones that play hockey. So Kian, I love his name by the way, and I loved him. I hated that he thought so low of himself because of his childhood and how he was raised. I wanted someone to shake him and tell him that he was worthy of everything that came to him. Taylor was great heroine. She stood up for Kian and this is what I really liked about her. I felt like she really knew Kian. When they got together, she told him and assured him that she loved him and that he was special. She never whined or complained that he did not say it back. I think that showed how confident and in love she truly was in him. She trusted his love even when some awful people were trying to hurt her and their relationship. “You always think a guy is going to be different until he’s not.” We get both Kian and Taylor’s POV in this book so we see how they are both handling the hurdles in their lives. Bottom line I am glad I read this book and I want to say thank you for providing me with a copy for an honest review. I am looking forward to reading the sequel.

Sports Romance Novels are definitely one of my favorite type of books to read as they have it all – Romance, Passion, Sports, Sex, Action, etc …. You can’t beat a good Sports Romance Novel. Dakota Madison delivers a great story with her novel Fire on Ice. I loved the storyline as it was original and very entertaining. Kian Kavanagh is not the typical hockey player that you may think of when it comes to mind – however he is a ladies man … But once he meets Taylor Thompson in a bar in the most unusual way, a connection is formed and so does a story begin. Madison will make you laugh, make you cry and make you laugh some more with her wittiness and talent for writing. I love the fact that that she doesn’t just make the characters instantly fall in love – Kian needs to work to prove himself to Taylor and Taylor has to overcome some personal fears and grow as a character. Madison can write smoking hot scenes, “When his mouth crashed into mine, it was like a wildfire had been unleashed and I was burning under its intense heat. His heat raged through my body as his toungue thrust between my lips and explored every part of my mouth.” Tell me that doesn’t make you want to read more … I also absolutely loved that the perspectives of the books changed – you got to her and feel what Taylor felt and then the next time what Kian felt. The two character POV is absolutely one of my favorite ways an author can tell a story and Dakota Madison never disappointed. I definitely recommend Fire On Ice.

This was a pretty good story of Taylor (smart, rich family, college student) and Kian (pro hockey player from the wrong side of the tracks)... Add a would be boyfriend, a stalker, a nutty sister and some "puck bunnies" and you have the makings of an interesting read...Then, you turn the page and the book ends without an ending... The last page announces book two "The Playmaker" due in September 2013 and yet it is October 2013 and i cannot find the second book... Very disappointing!!!

As a fan of sports-themed romances I was drawn to this story from the first page and its harsh but realistic view of hockey players and their groupies. Kian has always enjoyed the benefits of playing hockey but has never gone too over the top in his actions. He's saving his money for the future and after many meaningless one-night stands decides to eschew that life once he sets eyes on the studious Taylor. Even though he knows, and gets told by many others that he's not good enough for her, he wants no other. He grew up poor with an alcoholic mother who never showed him affection and thus he's never experienced unconditional love. He finds happiness in Taylor's sense of goodness and she makes him want to be a better man. Unlike most women though, she doesn't fall at his feet and he has to learn how to woo her and win her over in some sweetly endearing scenes. From the outside it looks as if life has been easy for Taylor, but a betrayal from her first and only boyfriend caused her to withdrawal into a world that's safe but unexciting. She's devoted herself to school and has no friends except for Kyle, the friend who wants to be more to her. Taylor is a sweet girl who still seems a bit naive even after what her ex-boyfriend did. She doesn't want to set herself up for heartache again and is very suspicious early on of the feelings Kian engenders in her. His being a hockey player creates even more suspicion as her despicable ex played hockey too. It doesn't take long for him to win her over and after a slow build-up they finally connect in a close-knit mature relationship. I enjoyed Kian immensely as he was sexy and charming. He had a bad childhood but didn't continue down that road of excess like his friend/fellow hockey player Runt. He wants to be a better person and has plans for his future after hockey which shows a man of maturity. While I enjoy a hero who can express his feelings I found Kian becoming a bit too emotional in the latter half of the book as he seemed just as likely to cry as the heroine. Taylor has let a past betrayal rule her life for too long so it was exciting seeing her come out of her shell to be with Kian. She's also too emotional at times and I wished for a stronger-willed heroine to complement Kian's confidence when playing hockey. Except for Kian most of the male characters in this story were creepy or crappy in their treatment of women. From Runt and the other hockey players crass treatment of the female groupies to a stalker who's introduced out of the blue to put Taylor in danger the men in this story are seen as the enemy. Though most of the men in this story were losers I still fell for Kian and the sweet yet sexy relationship that progressed between him and Taylor. Just when they looked to be on their road to happiness though the author gave us an unexpected cliffhanger that left me wanting to scream but dying to read the next installment in a story that nicely balanced a believable relationship amidst the fiery world of hockey.

The New Adult genre is all the rage right now and Madison nailed it with this awesome debut of a one-of-a-kind series. Fans of romance and hockey alike will discover a few unanswered questions lingering by the time they reach the end, and thank the lucky stars up above that a sequel will follow. Readers will enjoy the wide array of likeable characters, and find that there's just enough heat to spice things up. Taylor, the heroine of the story will connect with many other young women. We all know the feeling after having our heart shattered to bits and swearing off love, but then all it takes is one guy and one look to make you forget. Book lovers will feel the connection almost immediately. Can't wait for the next one!
