Overview

Kira Walker has found the cure for RM, but the battle for the survival of humans and Partials is just beginning. Kira has left East Meadow in a desperate search for clues to who she is. That the Partials themselves hold the cure for RM in their blood cannot be a coincidence—it must be part of a larger plan, a plan that involves Kira, a plan that could save both races. Her companions are Afa Demoux, an unhinged drifter and former employee of ParaGen, and Samm and Heron, the Partials who betrayed her and saved her life, the only ones who know her secret. But can she trust them?

Meanwhile, back on Long Island, what's left of humanity is gearing up for war with the Partials, and Marcus knows his only hope is to delay them until Kira returns. But Kira's journey will take her deep into the overgrown wasteland of postapocalyptic America, and Kira and Marcus both will discover that their greatest enemy may be one they didn't even know existed.

The second installment in the pulse-pounding Partials saga is the story of the eleventh hour of humanity's time on Earth, a journey deep into places unknown to discover the means—and even more important, a reason—for our survival.

Editorial Reviews

The Wall Street Journal
Mr. Wells has recombined familiar dystopian elements, added original ones and thrown in dashes of dry wit to create a sprawling, action-packed medical thriller full of big ideas and exciting reversals.
ALA Booklist
Kira is a bold heroine with lofty goals, and readers will willingly follow her to the sequel, where things are sure to tilt again.
The Bulletin for the Center for Children's Books

Wells creates a compelling, fantastically complex post-apocalyptic landscape, adding thought-provoking twists to a classic story of humanity creating its own doom...With broad cross-genre appeal and an engaging balance of thematic depth and rip-roaring action, this winner will leave readers clamoring for sequels.

Pitticus Lore
A thrilling sci-fi adrenaline rush, with one of the most compelling and frightening visions of Earth’s future I’ve seen yet. I couldn’t put it down.

Kirkus Reviews
Finding the cure to a plague that killed 99 percent of humanity was only the beginning for Kira. Baby Arwen was the first infant to survive thanks to teenage medical technician Kira's discovery that the cure for the plague called RM was in the pheromones exuded by Partials, the genetically modified superwarriors. The last remnants of humanity--all 36,000 of them--live on Long Island and are locked in a cold war with one faction of the supersoldiers; obtaining the pheromones is no easy task. Acting on a message to "Find the Trust" left her by her guardian, Kira, who's determined to find a more portable cure as well as a fix for the Partials' "expiration date" (they die abruptly and in prime condition at 20), sets off to discover the true nature of the Trust, which apparently controls the Partials. Joined by her Partial buddy Samm and superassassin Heron, Kira strikes off across the desolate wastelands of the Midwest. They fight genetically modified beasts and their own misgivings while at home, Kira's friends wage battles against the encroaching Partials. Fans of Partials (2012) will enjoy the twisty thrills, though the existential hand-wringing is both too frequent and too lengthy. Another hurried ending (if that can be applied to a book of over 560 pages) leaves all in jeopardy. Doesn't stand alone, but a fine and frightening post-apocalyptic thriller. (Science fiction. 14 & up)

Kira has found the cure to RM and several things about her she didn't know. She now goes on a journey to find out more about who she is and more about te partials. She wants to find out more about what caused RM in hopes that it may just save the humans and partials both. She has people from both sides looking for her as she just may hold the key to the cure. Meanwhile Marcus is still on Long Island. Things are heating up on the island as the Partials are set to move in to find Kira and they won't allow any humans to stand in their way. He has to leave to find help and that help just may come from Partials. They both soon leran there is many secrets they have yet to find and several may just change their lives forever.

Kira has always been a strong girl but to me she really comes into her own in this book. She struggles to figure out just how she feels about her self and she tries to find a way to save both Partials and Humans. She has to make several hard choices in this book and she really grows from them. She never really knows who to trust and has to always watch her back. Above all she does the best she can to help everyone even when she is told she will have to pick a side. Even knowing the truth could hurt her she still works to find out things. Marcus is quite a bit better in this book as he steps up and tries to hold things together. He goes into danger knowing he could be killed just to help the humans even if that means he may have to go against some of those humans. Samm I really enjoyed in this book. He is out to help Kira and has a hard time talking to her. You get to really see inside his head and what his feelings are in this book.

I really enjoyed Partials and I enjoyed Fragments just as much. You really get to see more of the world these people live in and how it may have come to be the way it is. Lots of secrets are revealed many that shocked me and I didn't see the twist coming. In this sequel you get more of a depth for the characters. Many of whom you never really know what side they are on. By side I mean good or evil not Human and Partial. To me you really see both sides of the fractions in this sequel. The author does such a fantastic job sucking you in with the plot and everything you really don't want it to end. Even if you don't like dystopian books I would recommend you try this series. It has tons of action and you never know what will happen. The world create and characters will keep you on the edge of your seat. The only bad thing I have to say about this book is After the ending I can not wait to the next one. I have to know what happens next. I don't dare to guess cause the author has a wonderful way of surprising you.
I would like to thank the publisher for sending me a copy for review.

    CookieIII (Awesome book!)

This was a great book, not nearly as much action as the first, but trust me, I normally hate books without action on everpage, but this book was great! It was a great mix of two views, Kira 's and Marcus's, I personally think that Marcus's part was more actiony, and Kira's was more answering-questions-y. Which brings me to anoher great feature in this story: So many unanswered questions, which all get answered at just the right time-Not to soon but not too late-But my favorite part was that for every question answered, three more questions are formed! This book was great, and I reccomend it to anyone that likes action of any sort. ESPECIALLY if you like sci-fi action mystery. Since I'm a fan of sci-fi and action, I give this book 94% If you want to rate it yourself post a comment with a title 'Percent CookieIII' thanks for listening/reading! And if you haven't already, please read the book 'Isolation' Thanks! CookieIII

    Obsessed

To put short, I was nearly obsessed with reading this book and could not put it down. I found myself tearing up and smiling while reading this thrilling novel. The ending left me with so many questions and a desire for a future Partial romance between Samm and Kira. I have to admit, this book would be on my top favorite novels list if I had one.

Third book bound to be Phenomenal

Can't wait for the third installment! It seemed fast paced but it described and drew you into the story so much more. There are so many aspects that have to be followed, from the Partials', to Kira's, then the military/civilian side. Felt really sorry for what happened on the journey for answers; but LOVED the kiss!!

    How Long for More!

Like many I have been waiting for this next chapter in the partials series and it did not let me down. Lot of details and plot twists and a cliffhanger ending. I love/hate waiting for what comes next!
