Children's Literature - Enid Portnoy
What type of object can be identified as a dog just from the enlarged photo of a nose on the cover? Dogs are certainly one of the most universal animals youngsters are familiar with. This guide is part of the "Bookworms" series which presents simple information about animals so that young children can to learn more about them. Some photos in this book seem strange looking and may require adult assistance on identification. Dogs are so familiar to children that it might have been better to display a wider variety of breeds and colors in the dogs pictured. The book itself is quite short. If the object is to add to a child's curiosity and knowledge base about dogs it seems odd that dogs of all sizes and breeds were not added. Photos are realistic but are uninspired. In the "Challenging Words" section Jordan only lists two words: Coat and Shed. An index is provided. Reviewer: Enid Portnoy
