The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

Gr 9 Up—Half-Blood is a hodgepodge of every currently popular YA supernatural romance. There are demigods, superpowers, aether-sucking daimons (vampires), and daimon hunters. Of course, what supernatural romance would be complete without the requisite forbidden love between a "pure" blood (who is really a demigod, so explain how that is pure) and a half-blood (offspring of a demigod and a mortal—so really, a quarter blood). Alex is in trouble. Her mother has been killed by the aforementioned blood-sucking daimons and the teen is on the run. Since she is a half-blood, she is taken to the Covenant—one of several private boarding schools for the not so mortal (sound familiar?)—and harshly punished by getting extra martial arts training from überhot Aiden, who is, of course, a tortured but kindhearted pure blood. But wait, there's more. Alex's mother is not dead; she has been turned and is now hunting for Alex, who is unknowingly the next Apollyon—a superhuman half-blood who can become a "god-killer." Enter Seth, the current Apollyon, who senses right away that he and Alex have a supernatural connection. What's a girl to do? Kill her mother, swear to never have a real relationship with the long-suffering Aiden, and become curious about Seth? It's the perfect setup for the sequel. Pass on this one and recommend Tera Lynn Childs's Oh. My. Gods (Dutton, 2008) instead.—Robin Henry, Wakeland High School, Frisco, TX

What People are saying about this

Holly Robinson
"In Leah’s Wake is an irresistible read. The characters immediately take up residence in your heart because they are people you know. By turns howlingly funny and achingly sad, the book details the vivid, harrowing journey of a fragile family that unravels – and finds redemption – thanks to a teenager’s rebellion. Along the way, there are unflinching truths about adolescence and contemporary society, told in prose that leaps off the page like poetry. By the book's end, we are stunned by the gritty realization that, no matter how we try, it is impossible for any parent to hold a child safe and close forever. We can only hope that luck is on our side, and love our kids as if there is no tomorrow.” -- (Holly Robinson, Contributing writer, Family Circle, Parents, and Ladies’ Home Journal magazines and author of The Gerbil Farmer’s Daughter: A Memoir.)

This book is AMAZING. There are no dull moments in here people. None. It's intense from the very beginning. I love Alex. Despite all the horrible things she's been through, she can still laugh and be snarky. She's strong and courageous. She doesn't back down from a fight (even when she should). She doesn't understand the decisions of those around her or what they're keeping from her. Alex has been away from the Covenant for 3 years. When she returns, Aiden (swoon!) is in charge of her training. Aiden is different from the other pures. He's kind, patient, and he doesn't look down on her like the others. Only problem is, he's forbidden. And who doesn't want what they can't have?! This world of pures, halfs, and daimons will suck you in and hold you.

This book is very similar to that of Rachelle Mead's Vampire Academy... Its similar concept-wise right from th begining (the whole pures/halfs/diamons versus Mead's moroi/dhampirs/strigoi, not to mention the elemental connections and super cool boarding schools where they are trained to kill). It gets just plain insulting though once you get to the part in the office... god you could almost literally substitue the words mentioned from the book with strigoi, rose and dimitri and you would have Vampire Academy. Its otherwise well written and interesting but it looses a ton of points in my book for being a stolen idea. I mean, come on. Thats just pathetic. If this book interests you, trust me, go buy Meads series, its much better written as well in my opinion. If youre looking for a cheaper version and a stolen idea this is the book for you. Im wishing I wouldn't have bought this now if only out of loyalty.

I've been hearing so many wonderful things about this book for months. Naturally, I wanted it. When I received it in the mail I was deliriously happy, and a bit apprehensive. You see, sometimes when you hear about a book and all its wonders, it falls short. Half-Blood did NOT disappoint. Honestly, this book BLEW ME OUT OF THE WATER!!! Half-Blood is a story of Alex. She is a kick-arse kind of a girl with troubles following her everywhere she goes. She's been on the run for years with her mother, when daimons finally reach them, ripping her life even more apart. She is returned to Covenant for training, where she meets some interesting people while reconciling with old friends. Since she needs extra help for missing training so long, she trains with Aiden. And that's when the real fun begins. I don't know how to talk about this book without giving everything away. The characters are amazing. Their relationships, their banter, even their fighting is all genius. You get pulled in from page one and cannot put it down until you know what happens. Alex is a strong character who, even though is a bit irrational, can take care of herself. Aiden. Well, that's all I have to say right there. Anyone swooning yet? Seriously, he is perfection. I can't even elaborate on that because this review will turn into a book. Now, one of my favorite parts of the book is all the fighting. The scenes are amazing. Emotional. Real. I'm stopping there. Overall, this book is the best book I've read this year. I've loved so many out there, but this story just took a place in my heart and won't leave. Jennifer is a genius with words. Her sense of humor is fabulous, and the conversations these characters have will go down in for their epic-ness in the Book of Epic. She weaves a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat, leaving you begging for more the moment you stop reading. Honestly, it's an obsession. Fun, brilliant, fabulous! You all need to read that book the moment it comes out! I'm not even kidding!!! That's an order. If you don't do it, I'll send Aiden after you! Oh, Aiden *swoons* Anyway, go grab a copy!! You won't regret it!

HALF-BLOOD, reminiscent of one of my all time favorite YA series, THE VAMPIRE ACADEMY, lured me into its world filled with compelling characters. I'd like to say that this book would have blown me away, except that I kept having so many flash backs of characters, scenes, and plots from THE VAMPIRE ACADEMY SERIES. I can't say that this book was original because there were too many things that were similar to VAMPIRE ACADEMY. I did like the half-blood & pure aspect of this species which included gods instead of vampires. I guess when it comes down to it, if you are a fan of the VAMPIRE ACADEMY SERIES, then you will most likely enjoy this book. I highly enjoyed the cast in this book. Alex is so like Rose in some ways, she's strong, she has a bit of a temper or let's say her actions and mouth tend to get her into trouble. She's special in ways that the other half-bloods are not. I loved the whole concept behind the Greek mythology and how it was tied into this world. Aiden, a pure blood, who's also reminiscent of Dimitri, is one sexy and fierce fighter. Then there's Seth, the unknown. He's powerful and he's about to make life miserable for Alex. I really enjoyed his laid back character. He's cocky, yet he cares about what happens to Alex. I know I can't wait to see where this goes. The whole prophecy/oracle aspect of what will happen with Alex and her future did provide a bit of mystery as to what would happen next. So, I'm glad that where some differences in HALF-BLOOD's world that kept me entertained throughout. Overall, I wasn't too impressed with the originality of this book, but Armentrout's writing and characters kept me entertained and thrilled about the world that she has created. A lot of things have changed in Alex's world and the consequences will have a life or death impact on her kind. This book is sexy, kick-ass, and entertaining. I enjoyed it!

I think I found my new favorite series, with this book, Half-Blood, as you may know, I have been promoting through the blog. The cover is beautiful, and with the flower it does represent an item in the book. I recommend that readers read Daimon before reading Half-Blood, because it gives a great background in why she runs away from her life with her mother in the mortal world. When reading this on the Adobe Digital Reader/Iphone, which was a little annoying (wished for an ARC), but it was totally worth it because this book was AWESOME/Great. I could probably physically hug this book if I actually did that a copy in my hands. From beginning to end you fall in love with her characters, Alex and even hot delicious Aiden, who is her knight in shining armor. Following Alex's life through Half-Blood. It deals with Greek Gods and many creatures that it is way different than any other book I have read to far! Alex, the main character, is strong and not afraid to stand up for herself. Her mother has died and she is trying to figure out how to survive. You find yourself cheering for her to become a Sentinel, despite the inequality between half and pure bloods. I also fell in love with the supporting character specifically Aiden St. Delphi (I have another book crush). Armentrout strikes the perfect balance of action and romance. She also leads us another leading man which I hope to see in her upcoming second book Pure, Seth who is an Apollyon. Her descriptions were amazing, and I even pictured the characters in my head, with the text. It was like I was in a different reality with her characters! Aiden is super hot. His pure blood status keeps him off limits to Alex but that doesn't mean she isn't looking. He is strong, mysterious, wounded, and determined to help her. She helps him become more relaxed, and try to have more fun, their banter through some sections were really funny. I love his fierce patience with her and his quiet manner. Caleb is the biggest supporting character and he is a best friend to Alex. At first I thought he was a love interest but it became clear quickly that he is just a very supportive friend, who helps her through her journey. Seth comes into the story mid-book and is quite the mystery man. There is so much about him that we don't know yet but we will probably more in her upcoming novels about his personality. He is the Apollyon, a half-blood who controls all four elements and more. An incredible fighter, he is a daimons worst nightmare but he has been called back from fighting. He's as interested as anyone why that is the case. There certainly is some strange connection between Alex and him and I love how he gets under Alex's skin. I'm sure there's a lot more to come from Seth. I also loved Aidens brother Deacon, he was also an interesting character:P My favorite Chapter has to be #16- best chapter EVER, I look forward to her relationship with Aiden, hope it moves further! While the ending isn't a cliffhanger, but things are far from settled. Can't wait for the next book. The problem with reading books before they actually come out is having to wait even longer for the next one. The whole read was really great, this is the book to read, Its one of my favorites. I also hope all of you will soon read this because you will love it! You will not be disappointed when you read it!

"Then I should be relieved to know what I was told an hour ago is false. It wasn't you who yanked a girl--by her hair--out of chair in the common lounge area."-Aiden I am baffled! I have been putting this review off for a week now, and I still have no idea where to even start with this one guys I mean, it is purely sublime. If there was ever a book that has left me so lost for words it is Half Blood by Jennifer Armentrout. This is a book you will finish, and weeks later still be mind blown about, just trying to think of the words to use for how much you loved it, and how much it captivated you. This is a book that will paralyze you, and won't let you go till the very last page, and once it's finished all you want is to be sucked back in. I obviously loved this book. Half-Blood takes on a whole new take in the mythology world, where certain groups of people are descended from Gods, there are the Pure-Bloods who have special God like powers, and then there are the Half-Bloods, who don't. A Half Blood is exactly what Alex is, and with her luck of course Aiden the boy she can't stop thinking about is a Pure- Blood, this wouldn't be a problem, if it weren't for Pure and Half relationships being absolutely forbidden in the Covenant. Alex has been gone from her life at the Covenant for years, but after one horrific night, she is thrown back into the life she never thought she would see again. Things are happening at the Covenant, things that shouldn't be happening. As more and more things keep piling up, Alex will be forced to confront things she never would of thought of in her worst nightmares.. I find myself drawn to seriously every aspect of this story, Alex and her kick-ass snarky personality, Aiden and his mysterious, protective, and romantic personality, Seth and his arrogant yet sexy personality, Caleb and his humor, the mythology, the romance, the action, this book had it all. Perfect story, with perfect characters. I think my favorite part of this story was Alex, and Aiden. There romance is so real, Jennifer did an amazing job at really capturing there love for each other, which is so rare now a days I feel. Most books are "oh hey I see you, I love you and thats it" no explanation, no realistic-ness whats so ever. With Alex and Aiden, you can't help but root for them from the very start. For me, it's not even just them as a romance pair that I love, but them individually. You can't help , but respect Alex for speaking her mind and standing up for herself no matter who she is telling off, and Aiden, you can't help, but well drool over him. I am sorry, but seriously this guy is perfet. He has taken a seat right next to Puck from the Iron Fey series in my "If I could live in my imagination this guy would be my soulmate" list. Jennifer has truly put together an amazing pair, and all I am thinking right now is how much I need the next book Pure so I can see how Alex and Aidens love continues to unfold. This is a story of love, lost, suspense, action, romance, mystery, thrill, humor, and everything you could imagined tied up into one incredible story. Before you leave on my final note, I want to tell you that this review ^^ is awful. This book deserves so much more praise then I can even express, just know, that you should buy it, the day it comes out on October 18th, this is a story that is going to go down Y.A book history.

Move over vampires, werewolves and faeries - the Hematoi, Pures and Half-Bloods have taken the spotlight. Half-Blood doesn't keep you waiting for action - it picks up right where Daimon (The Half-Blood prequel) ended. After being away from the Covenant for three years Alex is back, but in order to stay has to prove to the new Dean, who doesn't want her there that she can catch up to her peers before the school year starts. On top of worrying about her future and trying to move on from a recent tragedy, Alex still doesn't know why her mother took her away. How safe is she at the covenant? The mysterious Aiden, a Pure and Sentinel starts training her. You can sense a tension between them every time they interact. Alex has always had a crush on Aiden, but it's forbidden by the Gods for Pures and Half-Bloods to be together. If caught Aiden will get a slap on the wrist, but Alex will end up in servitude. Which still might happen, if she doesn't prove she belongs at the Covenant. Alex is simultaneously strong and vulnerable with attitude. She continually bends the rules to their limit and isn't afraid to speak her mind. Both get her into trouble and make her life harder, but that much more entertaining for us. Although they make me greedy for more, I enjoy books that end on a cliffhanger, so I loved that every chapter in Half-Blood ended so suspenseful, upping the stakes that much more each time. Jennifer L. Armentrout takes Greek mythology and puts her own twist on it, making it unique. It was a great change from the usual supernatural reads. I really think Half-Blood is going to stand out among the throngs of paranormal books. It's a captivating, action packed and unpredictable story with compelling characters that kept me turning the pages, gasping and sighing with emotion until the end. I've found my new favourite series.

How can words express how much I loved this book? How I devoured in in mer hours? How amazing and utterly beautiful it was to read? I. LOVED. THIS. BOOK!!! Why do I love this book so much? The tale of a feisty kick butt gal getting dragged back to somewhere she doesn't want to be, weaved in with fighting, sarcastic comments, and a girl who doesn't put up with anybody else's crap. Yeah, totally grabbed me. Ms. Armentrout blew me away with her creativity of the world she created, the characters, and the heart- racing plot line. The characters of this book were HOT! The main character Alex, stole me from the very first page. Her spiciness of her attitude, and the way she said things had me snickering through out the whole book. I loved how well her character was built strong, but that the reader can see her flaws as well. The love interest is not only forbidden but so wonderful good! I liked that Ms. Armentrout created a relationship that is modifiable to the world she created. So many rules and regulations make this relationship so much more wanted! Just the thought of it being forbidden, made every stolen moment that they took made it so much more addicting!!! In conclusion, this book rocked my socks off! I fell in love with it and I want more! A world with gods, half-bloods, and a conspiracy just waiting to explode, Half-Blood is an amazing book.!!!

A few months ago I read Daimon, The Prequel to Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I was so absolutely fascinated by the world the author created that I could hardly wait to dive into Half-Blood. This book was certainly worth the wait. I read this book as though it were food and I haven't had anything to eat in a week. Half-Blood is based on Greek mythology which I'm a huge fan of. The characters of this book are basically divided into three categories. The Pure-Bloods, The Half-Bloods and the Daimons. The Pure-Bloods are treated like royalty. The Half-Bloods are either trained to be sentinels to protect the Pures or they are forced into servitude and become mindless drones. Daimons are a vampire like creature that drink the Aather that runs through the blood of the Hematoi. The divisions in class make up an interesting and diverse story line as you can imagine the conflicts that arise. Alexandra and her mother have been on the run from the Covenant for three years when they finally get caught by the Daimons. Alex escapes but just barely. She gets rescued by three Sentinels, one of which she's always had a crush on. They take her back to the Covenant where she either has to prove that she belongs or be forced into servitude. Alexandra receives help from Aiden, a Pure-Blood and also her long time crush. Alexandra is a spunky, sassy, cheeky character. She likes to bend the rules but she's also very brave. She's mourning the loss of her mother while trying to get back on the Dean's good side. Aiden is a Sentinel who agrees to help Alexandra catch up on the training she missed while she's away. He's had a bit of a tragic life so far but not only is he extremely focused he's also devastatingly handsome and also a Pure-Blood. That means a relationship between the two of them is forbidden. Which that in itself amps up the hot factor quite a bit.I must admit the scenes between them are very meltworthy. I love the story line in this book. It moves flawlessly. It has humor, drama, action and romance. This story was so good that I burnt dinner while trying to read at the same time. There are some elements of this story that reminded me of other books that I've read in the past. However this series is a must read. Daimon is really good, Half-Blood is fantastic, now I can't wait to read Pure.

Half Blood is pure awesomeness. I loved this book from beginning to end. The characters were amazing. Take Alex for example, she was strong and she could fight but she was vulnerable too. And Aiden was what every reader wants the main male character to be, dreamy, strong, sensible, hot and hot. I had two or three "What the?!" moments and I liked that very much. Usually I have an idea of what's coming next in a book's plot but that wasn't the case with Half Blood. I had fun reading this book and loved every single page of it. Half Blood is one of those books you finish reading and can't read anything else for months because you are stuck in that amazing world of unforgettable characters. Review by Bookittyblog

My thoughts on this book can be summed up into five words: This is a must read!! This book is fast paced and full of action. There a Gods and Demi-Gods and Daimons (pronounced Demons) and some super sexy guys and the MC is as kick-ass as they come. Alex, is the MC of this book and the novel is told from her perspective. She's fierce and fearless mixed in with stubborn and relentless. I loved that about her. The other thing that I like about her is that she's not so innocent that things are way over her head. We meet several hot guys as the story progresses and I can tell you that I am in love once again. This time it's with Aiden St. Delphin, he's just so dreamy...*sigh*...and those beautiful eyes of his are to die for. Aiden is a "Pure" and that means that mixing any sort of pleasure with Alex, who is a "half-blood" is a big no, no. But who said anything about following the rules. There is so much that happens in this story but it never feels like it's too much. I loved every bit of it.

Kick-ass, alluring, and unique. Half-Blood is an amazing debut that has it all. It will entrap you from page one and seduce you all the way through. Alexandria, Alex for short, is a Half-Blood. Unlike Pure-Bloods she is forced to be trained as a Sentinel who will hunt down Daimons or become a "zombie-like" servant for the Pure-Bloods. And Alex would rather do anything than become a servant. Her and her mother had left the Covenant when she was 14 years old and Alex had no idea why. Now on her own and in trouble, she is brought back to the Covenant and forced to train the entire summer with only one benefit... Aiden, a sexy Sentinel Pure-Blood, is her trainer. The problem: Half-Bloods and Pure-Bloods are not aloud to have a relationship, but that doesn't keep her from falling for him. As trouble starts to narrow in on the island, Alex must act quick before she suffers a fate worse than death. Firstly, I love the cover art-work for this series. They are all absolutely beautiful! I love how they are more design oriented. Plus, Half-Blood is a purple (my favorite color) hibiscus... how gorgeous! Second, this book is one of the best debut books I've read. I absolutely loved every part of Half-Blood. From the opening, intense chapter to the final touching pages. It has compelling characters, an intense story line, plenty of laughs, irresistible romance, and so many great morals. The characters I have to say I loved them all in some sort of way, even the evil ones. One thing I love is when you at first detest a character but then you realize you missed something and grow to like them. I completely felt that with Seth and Marcus. Also, a thought that popped in my head... I liked Kain and now I cannot help but thinking if his name was deliberately picked. Hmm :). Other characters I enjoyed were Deacon, yes I liked him, and Caleb. I've always been fond of the name Caleb and in Half-Blood, I completely fell for his character. He's the perfect, good-looking, guy best friend and he can come be my friend any day of the week! Next, Aiden St. Delphi. Oh yes. He is one smoking fella. I absolutely love the fact that he is twenty... made my life! I absolutely love when a love interest is older than the main character. Aiden is so much more than that though. He has a rough past, and yet he still is so strong and so caring. The respect and compassion he has for Alex just completely stole my heart. He understands her and instructs her with the perfect tenderness. Plus, he has a guitar and a pick collection... HOW HOT IS THAT?! And FIRE?! Just keeps on getting hotter...! Finally, there is Alex. Alex is the main character we all love and want to be. She's athletic, strong, admirable, naturally pretty, clever, and comical. Alex constantly kept me on my heels, and her banter with Aiden had me smiling quite often. I loved how she stood up for herself and could basically kiss major ass. Alex has a few extremely tough decisions to make through-out Half-Blood and honestly I think she handled them all perfectly. Half-Blood was nothing less than spectacular. I loved every single word and every single page. The fighting aspect was so intense and exciting. The relationships we're all so well thought out. The story line was brilliant. It was unique, suspenseful, and I completely adored it. This is a definite must buy! And I am dying for the next one, Pure!!! Five stars out of five!! :)

After I signed on to this book tour, I happened across a review of Half-Blood that said it veered a little too closely to the much beloved Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead. At first, that scared me. I mean, the Vampire Academy series is one of my favorites. But, after a little more thought, I decided that really, any new book/series can be compared with another established book/series. It just happens. Did it remind me of VA? Yes, there are some similarities. But then, I decided to just push the comparisons out of my mind and read/review Half-Blood on it's own merits. I'm really glad that I moved beyond the comparisons, because Half-Blood is a really good book. I hate that I might have missed out on that. Author Jennifer L Armentrout has built a beautifully complicated world full of danger, excitement, love and loss. Her writing is skillfully paced, with realistic, intriguing dialogue. Main character, Alex, is a determined, bold and captivating character. Alex is so fun to read because she always has a great comeback, which usually gets her in trouble, and a impetuous, passionate personality. Is she a little over-confident? Definitely. And it's fun to see her brought down a peg or two. So who is capable of bringing Alex's strong personality down a notch? Aiden St. Delphi, the oh-so-hunky Sentinel who offers to train her. Aiden is handsome, intense and impervious to Alex's smart mouth. Best of all, Aiden does not subscribe to the notion that half-bloods are second-class citizens. He treats Alex with respect and genuinely seems to care about her future. And boy do the sparks fly between these two! As if Alex doesn't have enough to deal with, in walks Seth. While Aiden has the tall, dark and handsome covered, Seth is also tall, but has the blonde, Greek god look. He is sexy and a little scary, always an exciting combination. Seth seems to be the polar opposite to Aiden, personality-wise. Seth has the swagger, the imperious personality. Is it just a cover? I'm not sure yet. All I know is, the tension goes through the roof with Seth's arrival. Seth and Aiden are two Alphas, used to getting what they want. And what they want is, control over Alex's training, her future. And the sexual tension between Seth and Alex serves to further complicate her life. Oh, and did I mention that, as it turns out, Alex and Seth share a frighteningly powerful, but dangerous destiny? What's a poor, half-blood girl to do? Aiden is everything Alex has ever wanted in a guy. But, being with him can get her killed or forced into a life of servitude. Seth seems like a terrific alternative, but if they choose their shared destiny, that can also get her killed. Half-Blood really does have it all. In addition to all the romantic drama, there's also the fact that Alex could be turned into a daimon, her worst nightmare. And the fact that she is a teenage girl, just trying to make it through school. I can't wait to see how all this drama plays out in Pure, book two in the Covenant series, due out April 2012. Favorite Quotes: (Alex & Aiden) "He brushed a lock of dark hair off his forehead and flashed that loop-sided smile. 'I remember you.' I scrunched up my face. 'What?' The grin increased to a full smile. And...oh, man. He had dimples. The air in my lungs died. 'I remember you, too.' " * I received this book for the Book Kitty Blog Tour, in exchange for an honest review. *

Alex, the main character, is lost in the first part of the novel. She has recently lost her mother and no one is providing her with any direction to speak of. All she is told is to keep working, doing the job of a servant simply because she was "born into it." Aidan is her one bright spot. He is her crush...and her trainer. It's a dangerous combination, Aidan is a Pure-Blood and will not be allowed to associate overly much with a Half-Blood...much less have a relationship with one. Aidan is not the easiest of characters to like all the time, he really pushes Alex to do her absolute best-sometimes to the point where it seems detrimental. Alex has a very hard time keeping her mouth shut, she's got a smart mouth on her. Half the time the reader will be rooting for her, the other half the reader will be cringing. She says so many funny yet troublesome statements that the reader will always be on the look-out for Alex-it would be hard to imagine her character getting away with her "smart talk." There is a bit of a love triangle, kind of dissipates quickly though. Caleb is Alex's friend, the one who is always dependable and easy to like. He is the one who SHOULD be right for Alex, but Alex is not known for taking the easier path. Alex herself is a feisty, amusing character. The reader will love her character the best. The ending will leave the reader desperately wanting more. This book is terrific for teens/young adults who enjoy fantasy tinged with romance.

My Thoughts: Let me just jump right in and say Half-Blood was awesome. I was able to read the prequel, Daimon, and it immediately gave me a feel for what this story was going to be about. Daimon provided me with a sense of voice for the main character, Alexandria, and I wanted to know more about her journey and I was eager with anticipation for Half-Blood to take me farther into her world. Without a doubt, I wasn't disappointed. The first chapter hooked me in with a great action scene and right away I got to see just how strong and determined the main female protagonist, Alexandria (Alex), was. I loved reading her voice and her character came alive through the pages as I devoured this book. Aiden, a highly trained Sentinel, is the male lead in this book. Forget the fact that he's gorgeous in his Covenant issued black outfit, but he's mysterious, loyal, and committed to his job. He has a whole array of bad-ass fighting skills and he is definitely someone I'd want to have on my side with their war with the Daimons. Aiden is one amazing male lead and when you put him together with Alex, their chemistry is undeniable. Jennifer Armentrout kept the pacing of the plot at just the right pace to keep me flipping the pages and staying up way past my bedtime. She definitely has mastered the ability of torturing her readers by applying just the right amount of tension two characters, to drive you crazy. And of course, just when you think all is going well.BAM.she hits you with a plot twist you didn't see coming and you're on the edge of your seat with anticipation for a satisfying conclusion. But my conclusion will have to come later when the second of four planned books to this series is out later next year. My bottom line: You need to pick up Half-Blood, it's definitely a paranormal series you don't want to miss out on!!

You think with as much as I love JLA that I would have started this series sooner. Covenant always seems to be everyone's favorite series. I guess I was putting if off because I know how impatient I am waiting for those next books to come out. So I've had Half-Blood, Pure and Deity sitting here on my desk (this was all before the release of Apollyon it'll be coming very soon!) and trust me I looked at them every day telling myself "You can wait. They'll all be out before you know it and you can wait!" Yeah. No.... With the release of Origin and Obsession just around the corner, I needed a JLA fix. So I opened Half-Blood. I was just going to read a chapter. You know just get a little taste and then I'd be okay. I'd finish the other stuff I should be doing instead. Just one chapter. And then I met him. You know who I'm talking about. The one with the storm cloud eyes. He's quiet and fierce. Passionate and reserved. He's Aiden St. Delphi. I am seriously crushing hard on him. I don't know how Jennifer Armentrout always seems to write the most perfect guys but she just does. It's like a gift. I am such a huge mythology fan. Back in my school years I would always grab mythology books and try to soak as much of it in as I could. Having to do any sort of assignment with a mythological theme would become a best school day ever! And some of my favorite shows back then were ones like Xena and Hercules. Wow..I just totally let my geek out of the closet there didn't I? Anyway. I had a feeling finding out this series was set in mythology that I was going to just love it. And so far we're off to a great start and I do. Alex is awesome. She's one of my favorite kinds of heroines. She kicks butt when she has to. She doesn't take garbage from anyone. And she's filled with so much passion and fire. And where I would have normally cracked under some of the stuff she goes through, it only fuels her even more. She's got tremendous strength. That's not to say she's a cold robot. She's vulnerable too. And even she can have a bad day and let her armor crack. She's got a realness to her. The storyline is great so far. I'll admit part of it I saw coming. Though instead of being a "well that was totally predictable" sort of thing it was something I was hoping would happen. Sort of put some conflict and possible drama into the mix. (I love me some complications!) And speaking of complications...I'm finding myself growing attached to one of them. Seth is really starting to grow on me. There's just something about him. He worries the hell out of me. He's got bad news written all over him. So I'm probably going to fall for him. It's a gift I have ha! I am so loving this series so far. I'm still a huge Lux fangril by far (maybe it's because it was my first I don't know...) but Covenant has the potential to share that spot in my heart for fave series. And needless to say, one chapter turned into the entire book. And now my dilemma is moving on to Pure right away? Or finishing the other stuff I should be working on?...

I have to admit that this waas a very good book. But it was way to much like the vampire accedemy series accept the whole vampire part. Vampire: rose thought dimmitri was dead but he was turned into a bad guy. Forbidden love with a gaurdian ( dimmitri ). Good guy turned bad guy looks for main character ( rose ). Half blood: alex thought her mom was dead but she was turned into a bad guy. Forbidden love with a pure blood. Hood guy turned bad guy looks for main character ( alex ). There are more things alike but i have already written a long enough comment. I still belive this is a good book.

Half-Blood had me completely hooked and on the edge of my seat from the very first page. First, let me just say that I didn't know what I was getting myself into with this book. I knew that it sounded amazing, and that the cover was gorgeous, but, really: Covers lie. Well, not this one! The story itself is just as captivating as the pretty cover, and the promise of the amazing summary holds true. Alex was a girl unlike any character I had ever read about. She was so witty and sarcastic most of the time, but not overly so. She just knew how to make the best out of any given situation, and she did it with style. She was quick on come backs, and I loved being in her head, seeing things from her point of view. She was also a very strong female lead, which we need a lot more of in YA! So thank you, Jennifer Armentrout, for not making Alex a weak cry-baby whose only thoughts were of her hair. And Aiden! Where to start with Aiden? All of you know how much I love Four from Divergent, right? Well, I think I have a new favorite, or a very close tie. Aiden was so sweet and amazing, while still being totally badass, in control, and keeping a level head. He never put up with any of Alex's crap, and he wasn't scared to yell at her if she did something wrong. He was her trainer, after all. He was also completely mouth-watering. Did I just say that out loud? Oh, well. I wouldn't mind training hand-to-hand combat if it were going to be with him! I honestly loved every single thing about this novel; from the world Jennifer has created, to the characters, the evil daimon's that Alex had to take on, and the Covenant where Alex and her friends trained and lived-all of it was perfect, and so well done. I could imagine and see everything in my mind, and when that happens, I know I am reading a great book. I loved the whole thing on being either half-blood or being a pure-blood. In a way, it was almost like Harry Potter-how most pure's thought themselves better than the half-bloods, but the half-bloods were just as good, if not better than them. But don't let that scare you-this book is completely its own-the plotline was strong and while reading, you always knew the story was going somewhere, and every chapter just kept getting better and better; there was never a dull moment. This novel was action-packed-I can't tell you how much I enjoyed all of the fight scenes-they were awesome and always kept me on the edge of my seat-I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. All of the characters showed great growth and development by the end of the book, and I loved all of them. The dialogue was often amusing and some of the conversations the characters have will have you laughing out loud. Overall, this was an amazing read for me, and I cannot wait to get my hands on a finished copy! If you want a never-ending, action-packed novel, with a forbidden romance to die for-this is the book for you. "You wanna fight?" He stepped to the side, tipping his head down at me. "Then fight me." -Half-Blood
