There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 9 Up—Half-Blood is a hodgepodge of every currently popular YA supernatural romance. There are demigods, superpowers, aether-sucking daimons (vampires), and daimon hunters. Of course, what supernatural romance would be complete without the requisite forbidden love between a "pure" blood (who is really a demigod, so explain how that is pure) and a half-blood (offspring of a demigod and a mortal—so really, a quarter blood). Alex is in trouble. Her mother has been killed by the aforementioned blood-sucking daimons and the teen is on the run. Since she is a half-blood, she is taken to the Covenant—one of several private boarding schools for the not so mortal (sound familiar?)—and harshly punished by getting extra martial arts training from überhot Aiden, who is, of course, a tortured but kindhearted pure blood. But wait, there's more. Alex's mother is not dead; she has been turned and is now hunting for Alex, who is unknowingly the next Apollyon—a superhuman half-blood who can become a "god-killer." Enter Seth, the current Apollyon, who senses right away that he and Alex have a supernatural connection. What's a girl to do? Kill her mother, swear to never have a real relationship with the long-suffering Aiden, and become curious about Seth? It's the perfect setup for the sequel. Pass on this one and recommend Tera Lynn Childs's Oh. My. Gods (Dutton, 2008) instead.—Robin Henry, Wakeland High School, Frisco, TX

I'm in LOVE with this book!

This book is AMAZING. There are no dull moments in here people. None. It's intense from the very beginning. I love Alex. Despite all the horrible things she's been through, she can still laugh and be snarky. She's strong and courageous. She doesn't back down from a fight (even when she should). She doesn't understand the decisions of those around her or what they're keeping from her. Alex has been away from the Covenant for 3 years. When she returns, Aiden (swoon!) is in charge of her training. Aiden is different from the other pures. He's kind, patient, and he doesn't look down on her like the others. Only problem is, he's forbidden. And who doesn't want what they can't have?! This world of pures, halfs, and daimons will suck you in and hold you.

    Umm... familiar? Right?

This book is very similar to that of Rachelle Mead's Vampire Academy... Its similar concept-wise right from th begining (the whole pures/halfs/diamons versus Mead's moroi/dhampirs/strigoi, not to mention the elemental connections and super cool boarding schools where they are trained to kill). It gets just plain insulting though once you get to the part in the office... god you could almost literally substitue the words mentioned from the book with strigoi, rose and dimitri and you would have Vampire Academy. Its otherwise well written and interesting but it looses a ton of points in my book for being a stolen idea. I mean, come on. Thats just pathetic. If this book interests you, trust me, go buy Meads series, its much better written as well in my opinion.

If youre looking for a cheaper version and a stolen idea this is the book for you. Im wishing I wouldn't have bought this now if only out of loyalty.

Just boring - lots of talk and no action

Started slow and ended...worse. I had to force myself to read the first half because nothing happened. I thought I'd stick with it because it had to pick up at some point. Unfortunately, it didn't. There's a lot of talk about the danger of offending the pures, but that's about all we got to see, lots of talk and no action, and that applies to the entire book. At some point I found the heroine, Alexandria, childish, immature and downright unbelievable. The plot was weak and the book is very, very short. Not worth the price.

    Amazing

I think I found my new favorite series, with this book, Half-Blood, as you may know, I have been promoting through the blog. The cover is beautiful, and with the flower it does represent an item in the book. I recommend that readers read Daimon before reading Half-Blood, because it gives a great background in why she runs away from her life with her mother in the mortal world.

When reading this on the Adobe Digital Reader/Iphone, which was a little annoying (wished for an ARC), but it was totally worth it because this book was AWESOME/Great. I could probably physically hug this book if I actually did that a copy in my hands.

From beginning to end you fall in love with her characters, Alex and even hot delicious Aiden, who is her knight in shining armor. Following Alex's life through Half-Blood. It deals with Greek Gods and many creatures that it is way different than any other book I have read to far!

Alex, the main character, is strong and not afraid to stand up for herself. Her mother has died and she is trying to figure out how to survive. You find yourself cheering for her to become a Sentinel, despite the inequality between half and pure bloods. I also fell in love with the supporting character specifically Aiden St. Delphi (I have another book crush). Armentrout strikes the perfect balance of action and romance. She also leads us another leading man which I hope to see in her upcoming second book Pure, Seth who is an Apollyon. Her descriptions were amazing, and I even pictured the characters in my head, with the text. It was like I was in a different reality with her characters!

Aiden is super hot. His pure blood status keeps him off limits to Alex but that doesn't mean she isn't looking. He is strong, mysterious, wounded, and determined to help her. She helps him become more relaxed, and try to have more fun, their banter through some sections were really funny. I love his fierce patience with her and his quiet manner. Caleb is the biggest supporting character and he is a best friend to Alex. At first I thought he was a love interest but it became clear quickly that he is just a very supportive friend, who helps her through her journey. Seth comes into the story mid-book and is quite the mystery man. There is so much about him that we don't know yet but we will probably more in her upcoming novels about his personality. He is the Apollyon, a half-blood who controls all four elements and more. An incredible fighter, he is a daimons worst nightmare but he has been called back from fighting. He's as interested as anyone why that is the case. There certainly is some strange connection between Alex and him and I love how he gets under Alex's skin. I'm sure there's a lot more to come from Seth. I also loved Aidens brother Deacon, he was also an interesting character:P

My favorite Chapter has to be #16- best chapter EVER, I look forward to her relationship with Aiden, hope it moves further!

While the ending isn't a cliffhanger, but things are far from settled. Can't wait for the next book. The problem with reading books before they actually come out is having to wait even longer for the next one. The whole read was really great, this is the book to read, Its one of my favorites. I also hope all of you will soon read this because you will love it! You will not be disappointed when you read it!

I adore this book so very much!!!

I've been hearing so many wonderful things about this book for months. Naturally, I wanted it. When I received it in the mail I was deliriously happy, and a bit apprehensive. You see, sometimes when you hear about a book and all its wonders, it falls short. Half-Blood did NOT disappoint. Honestly, this book BLEW ME OUT OF THE WATER!!!

Half-Blood is a story of Alex. She is a kick-arse kind of a girl with troubles following her everywhere she goes. She's been on the run for years with her mother, when daimons finally reach them, ripping her life even more apart. She is returned to Covenant for training, where she meets some interesting people while reconciling with old friends. Since she needs extra help for missing training so long, she trains with Aiden. And that's when the real fun begins.
I don't know how to talk about this book without giving everything away. The characters are amazing. Their relationships, their banter, even their fighting is all genius. You get pulled in from page one and cannot put it down until you know what happens. Alex is a strong character who, even though is a bit irrational, can take care of herself. Aiden. Well, that's all I have to say right there. Anyone swooning yet? Seriously, he is perfection. I can't even elaborate on that because this review will turn into a book.
Now, one of my favorite parts of the book is all the fighting. The scenes are amazing. Emotional. Real. I'm stopping there.
Overall, this book is the best book I've read this year. I've loved so many out there, but this story just took a place in my heart and won't leave. Jennifer is a genius with words. Her sense of humor is fabulous, and the conversations these characters have will go down in for their epic-ness in the Book of Epic. She weaves a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat, leaving you begging for more the moment you stop reading. Honestly, it's an obsession. Fun, brilliant, fabulous! You all need to read that book the moment it comes out! I'm not even kidding!!! That's an order. If you don't do it, I'll send Aiden after you! Oh, Aiden *swoons*
Anyway, go grab a copy!! You won't regret it!

    Sexy, Kick-ass & Entertaining!

HALF-BLOOD, reminiscent of one of my all time favorite YA series, THE VAMPIRE ACADEMY, lured me into its world filled with compelling characters. I'd like to say that this book would have blown me away, except that I kept having so many flash backs of characters, scenes, and plots from THE VAMPIRE ACADEMY SERIES. I can't say that this book was original because there were too many things that were similar to VAMPIRE ACADEMY. I did like the half-blood & pure aspect of this species which included gods instead of vampires. I guess when it comes down to it, if you are a fan of the VAMPIRE ACADEMY SERIES, then you will most likely enjoy this book.

I highly enjoyed the cast in this book. Alex is so like Rose in some ways, she's strong, she has a bit of a temper or let's say her actions and mouth tend to get her into trouble. She's special in ways that the other half-bloods are not. I loved the whole concept behind the Greek mythology and how it was tied into this world. Aiden, a pure blood, who's also reminiscent of Dimitri, is one sexy and fierce fighter. Then there's Seth, the unknown. He's powerful and he's about to make life miserable for Alex. I really enjoyed his laid back character. He's cocky, yet he cares about what happens to Alex. I know I can't wait to see where this goes. The whole prophecy/oracle aspect of what will happen with Alex and her future did provide a bit of mystery as to what would happen next. So, I'm glad that where some differences in HALF-BLOOD's world that kept me entertained throughout.

Overall, I wasn't too impressed with the originality of this book, but Armentrout's writing and characters kept me entertained and thrilled about the world that she has created. A lot of things have changed in Alex's world and the consequences will have a life or death impact on her kind. This book is sexy, kick-ass, and entertaining. I enjoyed it!

Best YA Debut of the Year?

"Then I should be relieved to know what I was told an hour ago is false. It wasn't you who yanked a girl--by her hair--out of chair in the common lounge area."-Aiden

I am baffled! I have been putting this review off for a week now, and I still have no idea where to even start with this one guys I mean, it is purely sublime. If there was ever a book that has left me so lost for words it is Half Blood by Jennifer Armentrout. This is a book you will finish, and weeks later still be mind blown about, just trying to think of the words to use for how much you loved it, and how much it captivated you. This is a book that will paralyze you, and won't let you go till the very last page, and once it's finished all you want is to be sucked back in.

    I obviously loved this book.

Half-Blood takes on a whole new take in the mythology world, where certain groups of people are descended from Gods, there are the Pure-Bloods who have special God like powers, and then there are the Half-Bloods, who don't. A Half Blood is exactly what Alex is, and with her luck of course Aiden the boy she can't stop thinking about is a Pure- Blood, this wouldn't be a problem, if it weren't for Pure and Half relationships being absolutely forbidden in the Covenant.

Alex has been gone from her life at the Covenant for years, but after one horrific night, she is thrown back into the life she never thought she would see again. Things are happening at the Covenant, things that shouldn't be happening. As more and more things keep piling up, Alex will be forced to confront things she never would of thought of in her worst nightmares..

I find myself drawn to seriously every aspect of this story, Alex and her kick-ass snarky personality, Aiden and his mysterious, protective, and romantic personality, Seth and his arrogant yet sexy personality, Caleb and his humor, the mythology, the romance, the action, this book had it all. Perfect story, with perfect characters.

I think my favorite part of this story was Alex, and Aiden. There romance is so real, Jennifer did an amazing job at really capturing there love for each other, which is so rare now a days I feel. Most books are "oh hey I see you, I love you and thats it" no explanation, no realistic-ness whats so ever. With Alex and Aiden, you can't help but root for them from the very start.

For me, it's not even just them as a romance pair that I love, but them individually. You can't help , but respect Alex for speaking her mind and standing up for herself no matter who she is telling off, and Aiden, you can't help, but well drool over him. I am sorry, but seriously this guy is perfet. He has taken a seat right next to Puck from the Iron Fey series in my "If I could live in my imagination this guy would be my soulmate" list. Jennifer has truly put together an amazing pair, and all I am thinking right now is how much I need the next book Pure so I can see how Alex and Aidens love continues to unfold.

This is a story of love, lost, suspense, action, romance, mystery, thrill, humor, and everything you could imagined tied up into one incredible story.

Before you leave on my final note, I want to tell you that this review ^^ is awful. This book deserves so much more praise then I can even express, just know, that you should buy it, the day it comes out on October 18th, this is a story that is going to go down Y.A book history.

    Captivating, action packed and unpredictable

Move over vampires, werewolves and faeries - the Hematoi, Pures and Half-Bloods have taken the spotlight. Half-Blood doesn't keep you waiting for action - it picks up right where Daimon (The Half-Blood prequel) ended. After being away from the Covenant for three years Alex is back, but in order to stay has to prove to the new Dean, who doesn't want her there that she can catch up to her peers before the school year starts. On top of worrying about her future and trying to move on from a recent tragedy, Alex still doesn't know why her mother took her away. How safe is she at the covenant? The mysterious Aiden, a Pure and Sentinel starts training her. You can sense a tension between them every time they interact. Alex has always had a crush on Aiden, but it's forbidden by the Gods for Pures and Half-Bloods to be together. If caught Aiden will get a slap on the wrist, but Alex will end up in servitude. Which still might happen, if she doesn't prove she belongs at the Covenant. Alex is simultaneously strong and vulnerable with attitude. She continually bends the rules to their limit and isn't afraid to speak her mind. Both get her into trouble and make her life harder, but that much more entertaining for us. Although they make me greedy for more, I enjoy books that end on a cliffhanger, so I loved that every chapter in Half-Blood ended so suspenseful, upping the stakes that much more each time. Jennifer L. Armentrout takes Greek mythology and puts her own twist on it, making it unique. It was a great change from the usual supernatural reads. I really think Half-Blood is going to stand out among the throngs of paranormal books. It's a captivating, action packed and unpredictable story with compelling characters that kept me turning the pages, gasping and sighing with emotion until the end. I've found my new favourite series.

    Amazing Book!

How can words express how much I loved this book? How I devoured in in mer hours? How amazing and utterly beautiful it was to read? I. LOVED. THIS. BOOK!!!

Why do I love this book so much? The tale of a feisty kick butt gal getting dragged back to somewhere she doesn't want to be, weaved in with fighting, sarcastic comments, and a girl who doesn't put up with anybody else's crap. Yeah, totally grabbed me. Ms. Armentrout blew me away with her creativity of the world she created, the characters, and the heart- racing plot line.

The characters of this book were HOT! The main character Alex, stole me from the very first page. Her spiciness of her attitude, and the way she said things had me snickering through out the whole book. I loved how well her character was built strong, but that the reader can see her flaws as well.

The love interest is not only forbidden but so wonderful good! I liked that Ms. Armentrout created a relationship that is modifiable to the world she created. So many rules and regulations make this relationship so much more wanted! Just the thought of it being forbidden, made every stolen moment that they took made it so much more addicting!!!

In conclusion, this book rocked my socks off! I fell in love with it and I want more! A world with gods, half-bloods, and a conspiracy just waiting to explode, Half-Blood is an amazing book.!!!

A few months ago I read Daimon, The Prequel to Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I was so absolutely fascinated by the world the author created that I could hardly wait to dive into Half-Blood. This book was certainly worth the wait. I read this book as though it were food and I haven't had anything to eat in a week.
Half-Blood is based on Greek mythology which I'm a huge fan of. The characters of this book are basically divided into three categories. The Pure-Bloods, The Half-Bloods and the Daimons. The Pure-Bloods are treated like royalty. The Half-Bloods are either trained to be sentinels to protect the Pures or they are forced into servitude and become mindless drones. Daimons are a vampire like creature that drink the Aather that runs through the blood of the Hematoi. The divisions in class make up an interesting and diverse story line as you can imagine the conflicts that arise.

Alexandra and her mother have been on the run from the Covenant for three years when they finally get caught by the Daimons. Alex escapes but just barely. She gets rescued by three Sentinels, one of which she's always had a crush on. They take her back to the Covenant where she either has to prove that she belongs or be forced into servitude. Alexandra receives help from Aiden, a Pure-Blood and also her long time crush.
Alexandra is a spunky, sassy, cheeky character. She likes to bend the rules but she's also very brave. She's mourning the loss of her mother while trying to get back on the Dean's good side. Aiden is a Sentinel who agrees to help Alexandra catch up on the training she missed while she's away. He's had a bit of a tragic life so far but not only is he extremely focused he's also devastatingly handsome and also a Pure-Blood. That means a relationship between the two of them is forbidden. Which that in itself amps up the hot factor quite a bit.I must admit the scenes between them are very meltworthy.

I love the story line in this book. It moves flawlessly. It has humor, drama, action and romance. This story was so good that I burnt dinner while trying to read at the same time. There are some elements of this story that reminded me of other books that I've read in the past. However this series is a must read. Daimon is really good, Half-Blood is fantastic, now I can't wait to read Pure.

    I Also Recommend:

    Must Read!

Half Blood is pure awesomeness. I loved this book from beginning to end. The characters were amazing. Take Alex for example, she was strong and she could fight but she was vulnerable too. And Aiden was what every reader wants the main male character to be, dreamy, strong, sensible, hot and hot. I had two or three "What the?!" moments and I liked that very much. Usually I have an idea of what's coming next in a book's plot but that wasn't the case with Half Blood. I had fun reading this book and loved every single page of it. Half Blood is one of those books you finish reading and can't read anything else for months because you are stuck in that amazing world of unforgettable characters.

    An action-packed, fast-paced must read...

My thoughts on this book can be summed up into five words: This is a must read!! This book is fast paced and full of action. There a Gods and Demi-Gods and Daimons (pronounced Demons) and some super sexy guys and the MC is as kick-ass as they come.
Alex, is the MC of this book and the novel is told from her perspective. She's fierce and fearless mixed in with stubborn and relentless. I loved that about her. The other thing that I like about her is that she's not so innocent that things are way over her head.
We meet several hot guys as the story progresses and I can tell you that I am in love once again. This time it's with Aiden St. Delphin, he's just so dreamy...*sigh*...and those beautiful eyes of his are to die for. Aiden is a "Pure" and that means that mixing any sort of pleasure with Alex, who is a "half-blood" is a big no, no. But who said anything about following the rules.
There is so much that happens in this story but it never feels like it's too much. I loved every bit of it.
