This book was going to be good... But then... it didn't go anywhere. It was like the author had an idea for what she wanted to write about, but then got so caught up in the writing that she didn't tell the story... Literally the whole book was building up to Nick(aka cover boy) finding out who he was... with nothing before and very little left after... They threw you no 'bones' untill the big *SHEBANG* moment, and then the *SHEBANG* moment was like... Oh... Ok... I knew that...
Why is this book rated so high?

The story pulled me in from the first sentence. I was a child with a tire swing as I grabbed on and ran with the wind in my hair and there I was – with Milo in the woods. Ella James has a talent that so many try to duplicate and this is just my first book. I will find your other books and consume those as well.
You rarely find a story these days that don’t remind you of something or someone and if we would admit it those are the best ones. Your characters popped and the connection for them was immediate. I love the ease of flow you had throughout the book to the point I glanced at the page number and was close to being done and began to greave as I knew the next book was not out yet. I put the book down to ponder how you would end it in these last crucial few chapters to finally pick it back up and you did justice to a grand story by leaving me with my mouth dropped open gasping for more.
The next book was mentioned in this book to release in fall 2012 but I don’t see it available anywhere, so I went to Ella’s blog and seen it would actually release January 2013. So I am waiting anxiously for it.

This is right up there with that one! I want to keep this as spoiler free as I can, as part of the great excitement in reading this was not knowing, like back in the day, before Twilight got big, and I had read it, not knowing anything but my daughter saying its great, read it, so I did. So that same suspense was here, the not knowing what someone is. I loved it. I started to suspect something, but didn't know what. I read it in one sitting just today, once I started I could not put it down. I carried my kindle all around doing a few things, and neglecting many, and hiding for some of it, so I can read, lol.
Yeah, so I am not going to tell you. It’s just great. It’s written so well, and the plot flows along nice. It goes back and forth from Milo and Nick’s point of view which is great. Loved being inside his head as well. I really liked Milo, and found myself loving Nick, he is so sweet, and how he cares for Milo is something. I am truly hooked.
It was like taking a bit of the Bourne Identity, doing some great paranormal whammy on it, through in some x-men and some Luxen, and big dash of I am Number Four, and you almost have this book. I do think a different name would have benefited this book a lot. I do like the cover; it’s pleasant and fits for sure.
I can’t wait to read book two. This is a hard review to write without giving away the biggest part of it. The part that not knowing makes it so exciting. I warn you, do Not go read the blurb for the second book, it’s a major spoiler for this one. Just saying.
I give 5 huge stars out of 5. It’s an awesome story, and a cliffhanger too, but not too bad, it’s bearable, as long as the wait isn’t too long.
A review copy was provided for an honest review. Here isn't your average YA paranormal romance first off its writing style is very unique with a neatly developed story. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would it's a very easy and quick read. Milo's perspective is amusing and I liked that she's determined to help a mysterious boy discover who he is and how he ended up in the middle of the woods without any recollection of his life or how he got there. This book held my attention and kept me reading on which is always a good thing. It did have its moments where the writing was a bit too much for me to handle as it made the main heroine seem younger than she actually was and I got confused on more than one occasion as to whose POV I was reading from. This didn't however affect my opinion on the story because I thought it was really entertaining.
Initially I had warring feelings about "Here" because it didn't progress very quickly, the first 70% or so was just okay for me but then the last 30% of the book was very good and the story finally picked up. I'm not going to lie I almost didn't want to read on further but I thought better than to judge it without reading it all so I did and I'm happy I decided to continue. Milo Mitchell is a smart courageous girl who ends up getting in way over her head when she mistakenly shoots a dart at a strange boy. Stranger yet is that she could have sworn she darted a female baby deer so that she could tag and track it like her father use to do. However, when this boy wakes up he doesn't know anything about himself or how he got to where he is. Now Milo and this puzzling boy seeks answers and what they discover puts them both in colossal danger.
Overall a good YA paranormal read. If you can accept the style of writing and push yourself to finish it then you'll probably end up liking it. It was compelling enough that I want to pick up the second book in the series called Trapped. Here leaves off right when things start getting good and you're left with an action packed cliffhanger. Ella James writes a very fascinating novel and I can't wait to read some of her other works and continue this story!

I had received this book several months ago, I think I won it in a contest. It was still pretty much in a raw form at that time. Generic cover, etc. Since than I had kept up with the author through Facebook and purchased her Stained series. During this time Here received a facelift. The gorgeous cover really caught my eye, ok, it helps that the majority of the cover is an eyecatching hottie. Anyway, around the same time I participated in the cover release of Trapped and decided to purchase the updated edition of Here. I started hearing more and more about Here and with the push of an upcoming blog tour I'm participating in, for the Here trilogy, I finally read it. I am so glad that I did and I want to kick myself in the rump for not doing so sooner!
For those that know me, I love YA books. I'm not big on all the YA/NA romance, but I love me a good scifi or paranormal read. Ok, I'm a nerd girl when it comes to those genres and Here made my nerd girl go into overload! The story starts out after a group of teen girls have a typical sleepover/slumber party. The story centers around one particular girl, Milo Mitchell. All the girls are pretty much from wealthy families and a nice change in this story is that the wealth is by trade and not by lineage, so you don't find yourself rolling your eyes at the characters. What does set her apart is that her father died two years prior. She had gone through some tough times to get back to normalcy and the story pretty much starts after she's found that neutral ground. Milo's normal day suddenly takes a turn to the not so normal, while she's in the woods. At this point the story goes from giving you info of the past to off and running with the present. Mile, a boy she calls Nick and their adventure starts. Through this story we are shown events that just aren't your normal daily happenings. We get a feel for the working wealthy class, the overpriveleged teens, life other than that on earth and so much in between. We meet up with present day Men in Black, government research facilities, raids, clueless wannabe MIB's, etc. We find ourselves on the run with an ending that doesn't answer your questions, but not in a way that ruins it for you. It's a cliffhanger that will stick with you until the second book Trapped comes out. Honestly I wasn't sure what to expect with this book. I knew there were going to be certain paranormal/alien type elements, but the way it was packaged made this story fresh and put the reader into the story. When the characters were out of breath, I felt the same. When they were anxious, I was anxious. Not many writers can pull the reader into the story at such a level and keep them there to the end. Even when I put the book down and came back, BAM, I was sucked right back in.Ella James has scored big with this one.

The author uses to much "teen" slang to make it anything but confusing. It is difficult to try to keep-up with what is being said, the story line, plot, or anything else. In the beginning there are lots of flash backs, and side line story explanations. In addition to the slang, the reader is bouncing all over the place in the story line. I am not impressed. Save your money and time.

Milo Mitchell's life used to be charmed, but that was before her family dissolved, she went a little crazy, and her best friends started acting more like strangers. Spending Saturday morning in a treehouse with a stun gun for company and a herd of deer for friends is the only exciting thing in her life...until she shoots a fawn and finds her dart stuck in a guy.
Her gorgeous victim is dressed in a Brioni tux and armed with a hanky. He has no idea who or where he is. Afraid her dart caused his amnesia, Milo takes him in, names him Nick, and vows to help him solve his mystery. Soon the pair find Nick's face in a newspaper obituary, and Nick beings to have strange, ethereal memories of Milo--who is sure she's never met him. Suddenly Nick knows things he shouldn't know and is doing things he shouldn't do. When the Department of Defense shows up, Nick and Milo run--toward a shocking conclusion that could destroy both their worlds

Wow, I had so much fun reading this book. It is fast paced, logical and the characters blazed on the page. I have rarely found a book where both the main characters are brought to life in such a vivid way. Milo's pain and loss is real and understandable. Most readers would be able to relate to her. Nick is . . . drool worthy, not a word? Who cares? He is sweet, attentive, a looker and he is smart. REAL smart which, for me made him even more attractive.
This is supposed to be a YA romance / paranormal romance but let me tell you. At the age of 37 Lucy Jordan would sure have loved it. I know I did, and I am a bit wee older. I am sure that the YA paranormal readers will also fall in love with it.
The adventures of Milo in the presence of Nick are action packed and fast. It remains possible though. Milo relies as much on luck to survive as skill and finds out quickly that she might not have the necessary skills. She manages to make the most of her skills to try and save her and Nick. She falls apart in adversity but only after she is confronted with the true debts of her problems. She never remains beaten though.
Nick. Wow, he sounds delectable, I am sure that a woman of my age should not be turned on by a high school guy but I tell myself it is because I see him through the eyes of a high school girl. Yummy. Well let me stop now. This might start to sound a bit weird if I carry on much longer.
I keep saying that I am going to be more critical in my reviews but my only critique in this book is that it ended and that I don't have immediate access to the rest of the story. This is the first book penned by this author that I have read but be sure it will not be the last. I adored the story and have a very soft spot for Milo.
I give this a 7 out of 5 star rating, I would recommend it, walk around with it, heck I drove with my Kindle in the car for incase I had a second to spare and I would definitely buy it for my nieces whom, I am sure, would love it even more than I did. WaAr

I would like to thank Ella James for sending me a copy of this book to review and give my honest opinion.
Blurb from Goodreads:

I will be honest and say I did not read the blurb or any reviews for this book prior to reading it. So, I went in blind, not knowing what it was about or what to expect! Boy, am I glad I dove into this one. I mean, WOW! I am not usually a sci-fi fan as far as reading is concerned, although I have no idea why since for TV and movies I love that stuff. So, when I noticed this book was slated under a sci-fi YA genre, I wasn't sure what to expect!
The Cover: When I received the book, I was taken aback by the cover. It was very cryptic to me: a person on the front and then some windmills in the background, and all in what I would refer to as "black light." I couldn't make heads or tails of it. Now that I read the book it makes total sense. As does this new cover, which I much prefer, in all honesty, and I really think captures things better as far as the theme of the story is concerned.
Characters:
I really love the main characters in this story. They are well developed and very strong. I connected to them almost immediately. I felt their emtions to the tee: fear, love, doubt...you name it, my heart was in there right with them!
Milo is a teen girl who is very strong minded. She has three best friends but she is very independent and does her own thing. I have to say that she did come across much older than what she was. She did not strike me as the typical teen. One thing I loved about her was there was no self-loathing with her. She didn't think herself unworthy of being liked for the most part. I have to say that I was a bit disappointed in the fact that she really could not tell that Nick/Gabe was not totally normal. She alluded to it, but still seemed so shocked when it was finally revealed. It seemed unrealistic to me since there were so many clues during her growing relationship with him.
Nick/Gabe is just so sweet. And I love the beginning of the book when he comes off as shy and quiet. His need to protect Milo is unsurpassed. I love that he is such an enigma to both Milo and the reader (although, as a reader I figured there was something out of this world about him, I just wasn't sure what). For so long, we really have no idea who he is or how he showed up so instantly in those woods. Slowly he is revealed to us, which I really love. And my gueses were wrong at first. He's shrouded in mystery and that makes him so much more interesting.
The ancillary characters realoly weren't developed in this book. We don't see all that much of Milos best friends, just a small glimpse at the begging and then at a party they attend. But nothing to really show us the relationship she has with them. She does describe it a bit, but to me it was still not all that clear. And I don't think it necessarily had to be, since they didn't appear all that much in the book. Then again, Milo was so independent, I am not sure she would have related what was going on, even to her best friends. Her mother is not really around for us to get to know. We do get to know some of the "evil" character personalities a bit, but not really until the end of the book as they are an integral part of what is going on.
Storyline:
I was not expecting the storyline from this book at all. When I first started the book I have to say I was a bit confused. The tone confused me. It was very choppy and I really wasn't getting a sense of where it was going. I was unsure of whether or not I would enjoy the book because I didn't like the way the writing was going. And then I got to chapter 2 and things just kind of took off. I mean, I could not put the book down. I read over 1/2 of it the first night and was chomping at the bit the next day to get back to it and finish it up! It was fast paced and suspenseful. It was so captivating, I stayed up late and wasn't even sure where a good point to stop would be! The book builds slowly, keeping you wrapped in it's mystery and wanting to move along to find out what happens. James does a great job of world building. And James cleverly sneaks us through this world, as she reveals little by little what she wants us to know. My heart was pounding by the end and I just couldn't get enough. Then, all of a sudden, BANG, CLIFFHANGER! OMGosh, Ms. James, how the heck can you leave it all out there like that? I need the second book NOW!
So, you could say I definitely loved this book. I really enjoyed the ride the author took me on, especially since I have read minimal sci-fi books and I'm always leary of where they will go. I am into this trilogy for the long haul and would highly recommend it to anyone who loves sci-fi/paranormal young adult reads.
4 out of 5 stars from me!

This book is one of the best paranormal books I've read this year. The plot is so unusual and I loved reading about Nick. He is sooo hot! Milo goes through a lot and I also loved the mystery. I was so surprised it is on sale for two ninety nine!
