*** 6 Star Review**Insidious by Aleatha Romig is the first book in the new Tales From The Dark Side series.  Each book in this series is a stand alone novel with completely different characters, complex plots, and intricate elements that will take the reader on complex psychological journey.  These books are fully intended to engage the readers completely.  With each passage weaving a tale that changes the readers reactions as the novels progress.  In the end the reader will be left contemplating the entire book, the characters motivations,  actions, and results of those actions.  These books will engage the reader’s imagination and will bring out the ‘Dark’ side of their psyche to create their own ending. For a writer to pull off this kind of novel is quite difficult.  It requires creating characters that the reader can fully embrace and feel some kind of connection to.  It requires creating a world that the characters can fit into with ease in throughout every passage. The continuous plot twists and turns have to be delivered in the right moment that will keep the readers from becoming confused.  The twists have to be shocking enough for the reader to react without getting frustrated with the book altogether. The writer has to add an entertaining quality to the story to keep the readers engaged.  There has to be the right amount of angst, humor, astonishment, and credibility to create the perfect balance. Finally the writer must give the characters very real personalities and portray their emotions so that the reader is experiencing the same emotions.  It takes a very talented author to write this kind of novel.  That author is Aleatha Romig.  Her writing is brilliant.  She delivers a story that leaves the reader astonished and dumbfounded.  Her writing is pure PERFECTION! I cannot say too much about the plot for Insidious.  It is a book that the reader must experience personally.  I will say that the plot twist and turns kept me on the edge of my seat.  There were no moments of predictability. All of the characters throughout this book were both good and bad.  Aleatha showed both sides of their persona.  There was no hero or heroine to save the day.  It is up to the characters to resolve the story in whatever manner possible.  The possibilities were endless. Insidious is going to create crazy reader reactions.  I foresee many reader discussion groups, social media threads, and author stalking.  Readers are going to be deliberating the ending for quite some time.  The thing is , no matter how much deliberating is done, in the end it is up the individual reader to create their own ending. Aleatha Romig….you are a twisted genius!  Thank you for writing a book that completely screwed with my mind in a very good way. Read Insidious!  It will not disappoint!

*****Reviewed for Mommy Needs to Read or She'll Scream Book Blog! First things first, this is my first Aleatha read and I have to say, her writing is wonderful. She clearly has a great understanding of how to write well, better than most books I read these days. So for that alone, you should definitely read this book.  Second, OH. EM. GEE. THE. PLOT. This book is just amazing, it's completely thrown me for a loop. I still don't fully understand it... I mean, I'm going to need to read this a couple more times to see what I missed the first go around. It's so detailed and .... insidious! LOL! But yeah, it's amazing, and intriguing and I read it all in one morning. This plot is like nothing I've ever thought of or read before, and there is clearly a lot of background research that went into it. It's definitely amazing.... I can't describe it further than that. Just read it. You have to. Now. Why are you not reading it yet??  Third, these scenes are hot as hell! You will need a fan to read this!  I'm definitely all on board the Aleatha Romig train from now on! READ THIS BOOK!!!!!

So I’m going to be completely honest here. I don’t normally read the “super dark” books. I was asked if I wanted an ARC of this one and I am surprised how much I enjoyed it. I am so glad that I did. This was fantastic. I read it over the weekend, so I had to put it down here and there because of things going on. It left me wanting to get back to it to see what was going on. I am still trying to process all of it so I can write this. So how do you explain or review a book you are still trying to figure out yourself? I don’t know but I am going to try. “I play the role well. The grieving widow is new, but I can do it: shaking hands, sad smiles, even a tear or two when necessary. The acting isn't new. I've been doing it my whole life.” Victoria gets a call to meet with Stewart Harrington, mogul and owner of Harrington Spa and Suites. What she finds out makes her sign a contract and she ends up married to him. She agrees to his terms and in return she has access to everything he owns and she can help her family. If she can make it the 10 yrs he has her sign for she can walk away. If she walks away before then she will get nothing and owes everything. “I wouldn’t be offering you this opportunity if I hadn’t had you thoroughly investigated. I know everything there is to know about you. I can’t have a wife with skeletons in her closet.”  There are so many twist and turns to this book. You truly have to be paying attention when you are reading. There were a few details in one scene where I was like “Ok I don’t get why I am being told this.” But then come the end of the book I was like “OMG THAT IS WHY!” This story is one that kept me guessing the whole time. I usually have a book figured out by 50% but not this one. It literally took me the entire book to comprehend it all. The layers in this book are something you don’t expect till it slaps you in the face. You are just sitting there going “Oh no she did not.” This is really a review about everything but really it says nothing. I can’t really do it any other way. You just have to read it and find out. This is a stand alone. There will be other books in this series but this book completes Stewart and Victoria’s story. I am so glad I gave this book a chance even though I don’t really read books of this nature. This books is a thrill ride you will be thinking about for days after you finish it. I highly recommend you get on board.

Honestly, Aleatha Romig has a wicked mind...and that's a compliment. I'd love to be a fly on the wall of this author's brain as she concocts these stories she writes. I'd read both of her lengthy series, Consequences and Infidelity, and loved them both, so decided I'd give her one standalone a try. Mrs. Romig does not disappoint. To give much information would be creating spoilers, but suffice to say Victoria Conway is basically "sold" into marriage as an 18 year old. She may have been 18, but she certainly was not or did not remain naive. Perhaps the cliche' "never underestimate a woman scorned" would be the great summation of this book. It's dark.....but sooo good! Read it!

Okay, I'm now an Aleatha Romig devotee and looking forward to more Tales from the Dark Side. I didn't really know what I was going into, but this is definitely one to stick with you. I'm not going to say much more because I don't want to spoil anything, but this was an excellent, dark, page-turner, it's not my usual genre but a book I would reread again and actually pay all over again just to get it in paperback. Now I need to dive into her Consequences series!

For anyone who hasn't read Aleatha Romig before, here's a helpful hint before you start. Anxiety Warning: Medication Required If you have read her before, you already know that she's the queen of mind[...]ing plots. Insidious is about a girl thrown into a world she knows nothing about. She is young and naive and has no idea what her future holds. She continuously finds herself in situations of 'you can't close it once it's been opened.' This leads to sink or swim time, and she's not going down without a fight. Nothing is ever really what it appears to be, including her. Erotic scenes play a huge part. Some are dark; some are business; some are pleasure. Scandals are lurking behind each act. Every character has their own agenda. Contracts control some. Murders end some. It's the type of book that you have to pay attention to what you're reading. Certain parts may even require a reread in order to digest this pretzel of a storyline. It's difficult for me to explain the levels of twists and turns without giving away too much, and I recommend going into it without knowing anything beforehand. Just understand that the moral for every character in the book is trust no one.

This was a fantastic read. Aleatha Romig never ever disappoints. No one writes romantic suspense/thrillers the way she does. You will never see the twists coming until they are right up on you and being revealed. And the ending to this one...WOW!!

Insidious by Aleatha Romig is another thrilling roller coaster from the author of Consequences. This is part of the Tales from the Dark Side series. In this story Victoria, a young girl who grew up in a dysfunctional family to say the least. She meets with Stewart Harrington a billionaire who offers her an indecent proposal. Her life is turned upside down and inside out for nearly ten years. During that time she finds strength that she didn’t know she had and cunning that no one ever thought she possessed. I began to read this book and thought that it may be too dark for me, but it is a great read with a lot of twists and turns. The author does go back in forth from the past to present day, but it is clearly labeled in the front of each chapter so you don’t get confused. In this story, Heroes could be villains and vice versa. This book will keep you entertained until the end and then you will be begging for more. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for Victoria and the rest of the characters that survive.

I absolutely loved the Consequences series!!!! This book is much darker. I think it's a must read, but be prepared to suffer with the main character. The ending felt rushed, but the book is very good.

I enjoyed this book. It was dark, yet the story had suspense and kept me guessing. I was amazed with the ending. I've read every book Ms. Romig has written and have enjoyed each one.

I just couldn't put this book down!! If someone asks me what this book is about, I'm not sure what to tell them. Other than hang on tight and try to follow all the twists and turns in the plot!! This is definitely a book to remember for a long time!! I am intrigued to read the next book in this series!  The book revolves around the unfortunate who stick up for themselves, the wealthy and pretentious bastards who think they know it all and own it all, and the underdog finally getting revenge and coming out on the other side better for it.  By the end of reading this, I guarantee that you will extinguish a breath your holding and can't believe the ending!!

Loved this book.  It brought out so many emotions with the way the story played out and the plot twisted.  One minute I could understand the hate toward Stewart but then I found myself feeling sorry for him.  It is written to be a stand-alone but the ending had me screaming, NO!  It leaves you having to decide if it was her or him.  Was it an accident or intentional?  And if it was intentional, why, why, why? It's been a week since I finished the book and I'm still debating what I think happened.

If you thought that the "Consequences" series was a roller coaster ride, prepare yourself for another. The difference is that this one is dark and twisted. "Insidious" is not like "Consequences". Ms. Romig has delved deeper into the blackness of humanity for this novel. In describing Victoria Harrington's life she holds nothing back. "Insidious" is bolder, explicit and more raw. The story line strips any complacent notion you may have entertained in describing the normalcy of relationships. It is a must read for lover's of Aleatha Romig. Be warned. THIS is not your momma's romance novel!  DD Lorenzo, Author
