Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carol Ann Lloyd-Stanger
Main character Kitty is a fun-filled kitten who scampers through the world sharing her cuddles with all her friends. But whose cuddles does she love best? Kitty reaches out to unusual friends, cuddling with a mouse and a bird (a colorful peacock). She also visits animals friends in their homes—a frog in a pond and a monkey in a treetop. Truly unusual friends for a kitten are included, as well as Kitty-cuddles with an elephant and an octopus. But as young readers watch Kitty make her visits, who is the favorite friend to cuddle? Cabrera's vibrant illustrations have a gentle cartoonlike quality, with whimsical characters that come alive on the page. The bright colors and simple lines are sure to appeal to young readers, and the simple backgrounds make Kitty and her friends stand out. A couple of funny and imaginative illustrations come toward the end of the book when the soft kitten cuddles with a prickly porcupine and an unusual looking armadillo. Children will enjoy guessing who will be the best cuddle of all.
School Library Journal

With which friend does Kitty love to cuddle best? Is it Tiny Mouse, "prickly" Porcupine, "squidgy" Frog, "squeezy" Octopus, or a host of other animals featured one per spread? Though seemingly a tough call, Kitty's new baby brother is ultimately revealed as the paws-down favorite. Cabrera's trademark eye-catching, lush colors are used to full advantage on every page. While Kitty's never-changing expression is monotonous, the animal friends are rendered with a verve that catches the essence of the other creatures and splashes it vibrantly across the pages. While it's all slightly precious, youngsters will be riveted by the bold pictures and find comfort in Kitty's predictable exploits.

Kirkus Reviews
A curious kitten explores the variety of cuddles to be found across a broad spectrum of the animal kingdom. From a peacock's ticklish cuddle to the encompassing embrace of an octopus, the kitten's search spans sea and land. After one final-and cautious-examination of a porcupine's cuddle, the kitten settles upon the best cuddle of all, from his new baby brother. The combination of Cabrera's playful language-a frog gives "squidgy, quidgy" cuddles-with the lavishly colored illustrations will make this a much-requested favorite among the preschool set. Cabrera's full-bleed paintings are heavily textured, with overlays of paint and visible brush strokes adding depth to the illustrations. The welcoming wide-eyed and friendly expressions on the array of critters featured, from cozy to exotic, are endlessly inviting for young readers. An engaging approach to encouraging sibling acceptance, this tale will hold appeal even for those without younger siblings. (Picture book. 2-5)
