“Julie James rocks! You’ll laugh out loud and wish you had an FBI agent of your own.”—Sandra Hill, New York Times bestselling author

The FBI wants her cooperation.

As the daughter of a billionaire and the owner of the city’s top wine store, Jordan Rhodes is invited to the most exclusive parties in Chicago. But there’s only one party the FBI wants to crash: the charity fund-raiser of a famous restaurateur, who also happens to launder money for the mob. In exchange for her brother’s release from prison, Jordan is going to be there—with a date supplied by the Bureau.

Agent McCall just wants her.

As the top undercover agent in Chicago, Nick McCall has one rule: never get personal. This “date” with Jordan Rhodes is merely an assignment—one they’re both determined to pull off even if they can’t be together for five minutes before the sarcasm and sparks begin to fly. But when Nick’s investigation is compromised, he and Jordan have no choice but to pretend they’re a couple, and what starts out as a simple assignment begins to feel a lot like something more…

In Chicago, heiress Jordan Rhodes owns the high end DeVine Cellars wine store. She is invited to all the elite soirees and besides her father ranked in the top ten of wealth by Forbes, she is beautiful and charming; ergo men desire her. Jordan's only down is her brother Kyle's incarceration. FBI Agents Seth Huxley and Nick McCall need to attend the annual Valentine's Day party tossed by Xander Eckhart so that one of them can plant bugs in his office to find information on the man's link to notorious Roberto Martino. The feds visit Jordon at her store where they offer her a get out of jail card for her computer geek sibling in exchange for allowing Nick to escort her to the Eckhart gala; she agrees. However, the scheme goes awry leading to Nick becoming Jordan's escort to keep her safe; however they continue the charade that looks like the real deal perhaps because they are falling in love. This is a throwback police procedural romantic suspense in which Hepburn-Tracy need to star. The tale combines danger with light humor such as McCall's revelation as to why men watch Dancing with the Stars. Although the bodyguard gimmick has been used a lot in books and movies (see the Costner-Houston film The Bodyguard) sub-genre fans will enjoy the fast-paced story line as the beautiful bodacious billionaire and the fearsome Fed fuss, fight and fall in love. I look forward to each of her new releases and console myself by telling myself that the wait in between books will give me a better read and "A Lot Like Love" totally proved me right. A very humorous read with enough sex, action and actual romance to keep me reading in between toddler emergencies. I soaked up all the wine info and really want to go to a wine bar now. The lead characters felt very well matched and I specially liked the way Jordan quantified how much she disliked Nick throughout the book with percentages. I'm definitely looking forward to Kyle's book and hoping the Ivy League FBI agents keep on showing up, because I love sexy geeks. I would recommend this book for book club discussions because Nick and Jordan have enough of a life outside of the plot line to make discussion interesting.

This is a great, fast-paced read. Once I started, I didn't stop until I was finished. The best parts were the quips between Jordan and Nick. Even the wine talk and its terminologies were enjoyable - I had no idea you could read certain connotations into it. Another book that I kept thinking about while reading it was "Pride and Prejudice". Like it, this book is centered around two main characters who both have an unwanted attraction and certain prejudices towards each other. Nick sees his job as a hindrance for any long-term relationship and doesn't fit into her lifestyle. Jordan thinks he's arrogant and that he annoys her most of the time. Julie James' books are categorized as romance, but this like "Something About You" is more romantic suspense with steam. I enjoy each book more than the last and can't wait for her next one.

Like this author and this series. Helps to read in order because main characters in previous books come back. I pre-order Julie James books because I like her writing style and know I won't be disappointed!

I'm still basking in the afterglow left by A LOT LIKE LOVE. A LOT LIKE LOVE by Julie James and read by Karen White is an exceptionally fabulous romantic suspense listen. The combo of Julie James and Karen White is nothing short of pure perfection! Many, many thanks to the posters on a Goodreads romantic audio group for recommending that I check out the Julie James/Karen White offerings! You were all right on and have earned my undying appreciation! Even though A LOT LIKE LOVE is the second installment in the author’s fantastic FBI/US Attorney series, it can be enjoyed as a stand-alone if that is your preference. However, if you enjoy fun contemporary romances generously spiced with suspense, start with the first book and exponentially increase your pleasure! A LOT LIKE LOVE is the story of the ‘ubiquitous tall, dark, and smoldering’ undercover agent Nick McCall and heiress Jordan Rhodes, a wine connoisseur extraordinaire. As the story begins, we are there as the FBI solicits the assistance of Jordan, a billionaire’s daughter, to cause a diversion, so the FBI can then bug a local business owner believed to be laundering money while he’s not paying attention. In return, they will get her brother out of prison, where he is serving a sentence for pulling off the largest hack in Twitter’s history. Sound interesting? After all, what could possibly go wrong? Hang on tight as this is a wild dangerous romp! As a fringe benefit to this mesmerizing tale, it doubles as a genuinely interesting educational primer on wine and the wine industry. As I mentioned, Karen White performs this audio. Simply put, if you have not listened to one of her productions, you are missing out. Every word, every pause, every inflection, i.e, the whole package comprises a polished, precise, and engaging listen. I know I’m fan-girling, but Karen’s works deserve it as they are all pure vocal magic. Pick one up and check her out! As an added bonus to fans of the series, in this book we get to catch up with former Army Special Forces and current FBI Special Agent Jack Pallas and Chicago’s U.S. Attorney Cameron Lynde. Even after having read their captivating story months ago, I continue to think of them often, so being privy to their air space for even a short time is a win-win! Who will be the next to fall in love in this riveting, witty and sexy crime-investigating romance series? I can’t wait to find out who it will be! The next installment, ABOUT THAT NIGHT, is already cued on my phone. Meanwhile, I'm still basking in the afterglow left by A LOT LIKE LOVE. My full review is published at Reading Between The Wines Book Club. Please check it out there!

A Lot Like Love is a fantastic book. I loved the sarcastic humor, the suspense, and the hot bathroom scenes. Julie James did a wonderful job with this book.

As with all of Ms. James' FBI stories "A Lot Like Love" was a fun filled romance with a strong independent woman who knows her own mind and isn't afraid to use it! And can any other author write the "Tall, Dark and Smoldering" hero the way Ms. James does...(sigh)! The storyline is fresh out of today's newspapers and the characters resonate with true life so that it makes reading these novels an A plus experience and the hot lovemaking curls my toes! Once again an unbeatable and enjoyable novel. Don't miss it!

This story is about Nick, a good looking and sexy undercover FBI agent, and Jordan, a beautiful, sexy and smart high end wine shop owner. They meet when he needs her help with a case. There are laugh out loud funny parts. There is romance and sex. I enjoyed this book and recommend it highly. It is a quick read and you'll have trouble putting it down once you start reading it.
