Having followed the trial, I know many details about the trial and investigation that never made their way into the media reports and they also didn't make their way into this book. Because of this, it made the book less than factual. For example, Ms. Lamb describes the police account of the missing shoes and dress but doesn't go on to explain how the jury was misled about these things at the trial.
She spent a great deal of time summarizing witness affidavits; witnesses who later lost all credibility when they were found lying in court. Yet their words were presented as though they were fact.
This was the most unfair trial I have ever seen but the unfairness was barely touched upon in the book. The unfairness resulted in question as to the confidence in the verdict. Many (including myself) believe the police mishandling of the case likely resulted in a wrongful conviction. I wish she had spent her time writing about that. That is the story that needs to be told.
