Imagine a gigantic book packed with expert Windows Server 2003 help for experienced professionals, written by one of the world’s most respected Windows authors, with the benefit of insider access to Microsoft’s own development teams. You’ve just imagined Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Inside Out.

William R. Stanek covers every nook and cranny, from remote installation to disaster recovery. Along the way, you’ll find lengthy chapters on topics some Windows Server 2003 books barely touch upon -- for instance, optimizing performance and managing the Registry. Active Directory planning, setup, and migration are covered in depth. I evaluated about five different books at the Barnes and Noble book store tonight. This was the best one. I think the second best book was the Unleashed Windows Server 2003. This book has great information and useful graphics that really help to explain the concepts. I plan to use this book as a textbook from which I will teach Windows Server 2003 concepts. I already know this topic well and I really like how the book has laid it all out.

Fantastic! This book is packed with information and worth every penny it costs. Not only is it wellwritten it is the most detailed Windows Server 2003 book I've found. This is the book you want to have with you if you ever have a problem.

I first started reading this book several months ago, and it is clearly a great book. I've learned so much from it. You have to read it to believe it but William Stanek is very effect, clear, and cogent without being boring. What a tremendous achievement! Who'd have though a 1500 page computer manual would a joy to read? I recommend it very highly.

William Stanek is one of the world's most respected Windows authors and his expertise shows in Windows Server 2003 Inside Out. Windows Server 2003 Inside Out has everything you need to deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot a Windows network as efficiently as possible. Let me start by saying I've read all 3 of Stanek's Windows pocket books prior to this one (NT4, 2000 & 2003). I've been an admin for 7 years. This book is a one-of-a-kind in the sea of Windows Server books available these days. It is targetted specifically at windows admins and network engineers (and anybody else) who wants or needs to know Windows Server 2003 and it is written with the kind of insider knowledge you can only get by from many years of experience writing, teaching and consulting on Windows Server which Stanek has. It is a massive book (almost 1500 pages). The CD-ROM includes the full Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit, lots of tools and the System Architecture documentation. In my opinion it is the most complete, up-to-date resource available. What it will show you is how Windows Server 2003 can be installed, configured, and maintained. As with Stanek's pocket consultants, the writing style is very clear and consice. It is easy to find answers. It provides a solid foundation for correct DHCP, DNS, and WINS deployment and configuration. The architecture details are very comprehensive. It has excellent details on IP including subnetting (I finally understand it). However, the best part of this book, in my opinion, is part 7: 'Managing Active Directory and Security'. It teaches you step by step how to implement it and use it to manage Windows networks. If you ever wanted to know how Active Directory really works this is a must read. It is better than the books dedicated to Active Directory I've read. If you are new to Windows Server, I recommend starting with Stanek's Windows Server 2003 Pocket book first to learn as much as possible. Once you think you know everything about it, buy Windows Server 2003 Inside Out to see how much you still have to learn. This is the *Windows Server* bible.

I started with William Stanek's Windows NT 4 pocket consultant several years ago and been a huge fan ever since. Windows Server 2003 Inside Out is nearly 1,500 pages. It's full of information and the most detailed server book I've found. Most of the big books are written by a half dozen of so different people. You can tell this one is written from start to finish by the author whose name is on the cover. His writing style is to the point and thorough. He takes you through nearly everything you need to know with step by step and very detailed explanations. He explains why things work, not just how they work and offers suggestions, insights. It's not only a great technical book but also a very interesting book. Jack Senior Systems Administrator, IBM
