Through awareness of how the brain works and awareness of our behaviors, we open ourselves up to personal growth and change. By awareness of the phisology impacting our emotional triggers, we can literally change the architecture of our brains. The author Dan Siegel combines western neuroscience with eastern philosophy of mediation, presenting the ideas that through attention, brain science, and mindfulness can literally change the way the brain functions. The book is presented in snippets of chapters and sub-headings to give myself easy places to stop and take food for thought.

Excellent book for advanced or beginners interested in the workings of the mind and the healing that can occur through practices directly related to brain function. Excellent popular explanation of differences and interrelatedness of brain stem, limbic regions and cortex. Highly recommend.

I really enjoyed reading this book and loved the way Daniel was able to bring the science of the mind into a perspective that is easy to understand and visualize.

Dr. Daniel Siegel offers an accessible review of the brain using the most current and ground-breaking scientific research today. He is a master storyteller combined with decades of psychiatric, pediatric, and medical experience. This book has helped me in my own work as a grief counselor. I highly recommend this work as well as The Whole-brain Child. Excellent!
