Overview

Three years after everyone important to Connor Maitland was murdered by a fanatical cult he is still attempting to put his life back together. Accompanied by his ex-girlfriend and business partner, Alison Herne, he is making a living as a jack-of-all-trades running a security company, sailing charters, and even photographing weddings out of Dolliber Cove, Massachusetts. Connor’s world is finally coming back together until they find one of Alison’s ghost hunter friends murdered.

When a childhood love he thought was dead, appears on his doorstep during their investigation, Connor is forced to confront memories he convinced himself were the delusions of a man deep into grief. They are being stalked by a mysterious man who appears to know far too many of their secrets. After Alison is almost killed confronting her occult past, it is impossible for Connor to deny the connection between the cases. Someone is attempting to end Connor’s life and the lives of all those who surround him.

The crazed rantings of the murderous cult may be the key to his survival.

When I initially picked up this book, I was anticipating an exciting thriller that keeps you guessing until the end. I was not disappointed by this book. From the first chapter, I was deeply invested in these characters, and in following their path throughout this book. Where this book excelled was the interesting twist upon the normal urban fantasy/paranormal mystery, with a main character who is resistant to the existence of the paranormal in his world. The characters were well-rounded, and their back story was spread throughout the book in a way that eluded the dreaded 'info dumping'. I loved this book, and hope that I have the opportunity to read future books about these characters.

The fast pacing in Nightfall kept my attention from the very start. The author's ability to bring vivid and real characters to life allowed me to easily fall into the story and his rich descriptions made me feel like I was a part of it. The premise was exciting with the paranormal and occult elements, and it left me wanting to know more by the end. It is a fascinating subject and he has interwoven facets of both the paranormal and private investigating worlds successfully. An intriguing read, Nightfall delivers on many levels. I highly recommend this one! Pick it up to get your thriller, action, mystery and paranormal fix. I look forward to reading the rest of the series!

( correction to previous review) It seldom happens that a book enthralls me in such a way as Nightfall did. The story sucked me in from page one and kept me up until the wee hours of the night, wanting to learn more about the characters and to solve the mystery but at the same time I found myself prolonging the process just so the story didnt end. It’s truly an extraordinary book that keeps you on the edge of your seat from the very beginning. The characters are intriguing, original and refreshing. Not only does the author describe the setting wonderfully, 'he' also gives us vibrant, mysterious characters who seem to crawl right out of the pages. I can't wait to read more work from P.W. Creighton. ~ Vivian
