It all started with a question…

When Liz Dougherty’s first reporting assignment for her North Carolina college newspaper finds her covering a state senator’s impromptu press conference, she has no idea how drastically her life is about to change. Senator Brady Maxwell may look the part with his devastating good looks and impeccable style, but his politics rub Liz the wrong way, and she’s not going to let him off easy.

Liz’s hardball question catches Brady off guard and shows her editor, Hayden Lane, that she’s headed places as journalist. But to Liz’s surprise, she’s also headed for a secret, high-stakes romance with Brady Maxwell that could destroy the careers they each hold dear.

Unsatisfied with sneaking around and realizing things with Hayden might not be strictly platonic, Liz faces a difficult decision: Should she take things with Brady to the next level or call the whole thing off? They soon discover that in love, unlike politics, there’s rarely a clear winner.

I got this book when it first came out and I finally just read it. What a dope! Why did I wait so long? This story is a romance but it happens in the world of politics and news reporting. Generally stories based in this world tend to be more suspenseful romances, but what a wonderful surprise! Our heroine, Liz Dougherty is a journalism major at the University of North Carolina. She has been assigned to cover the political elections by her boss, Hayden Lane. Liz's first event was for State Senator Brady Maxwell III, so she researched what she could find about him. Liz didn't like his platform and the way he has voted. She thinks he is just another spoiled, rich kid, wanting to follow in his daddy's footsteps. Liz is unhappy with Brady's voting record when it comes to education. Senator Maxwell walks out and Liz is taken back with how good looking he is but she would still love to ask him a question regarding his views on education. Everyone is surprised when he announces his bid to run for the United States House of Representatives in his home district. After his quick speech, he has a Q & A. Surprise! He picks Liz out because she has on a shirt from UNC, his alma mater! Liz asks him her question and he's temporarily speechless but quickly recovers and gives a vague answer. Win one for Liz! Liz, Hayden and other reporters go to a bar for drinks. While they are there a waiter brings a drink to Liz saying it is from a VIP. She says the guy is mistaken and refuses the drink. The waiter comes back and says the VIP won't reveal his name but that she should come up to the VIP room. Liz figures what the hell and does. That is when she meets Brady Maxwell III! He is curious about her and wants to see her again and gives her his card with his private number. She is floored, but also confused because she's had a crush on Hayden for two years now. Liz has to go to the Jefferson-Jackson Gala and guess who is there? Brady! After dinner she is mingling by the desserts and Brady comes up to her. They start flirting back and forth and he asks her to dance. Their attraction is off the charts. Hayden, who? He convinces her to leave with him and they head to his hotel room where things get really hot! This is the start of their love affair. The only problem is that their times together have to be kept secret. The entire summer they secretly meet up to be together! :) Some moments are so romantic, but they are always very HOT! As it gets closer and closer to the primary, Liz is starting to have doubts because she cannot be with Brady when she wants and she realizes that she has fallen in love with him. Brady finally makes it to the day of the primary and he realizes he wants Liz in his life and he is going to tell her that he loves her. During his speech, he subtly mentions about Liz without giving anything away as to who she is. Of course, Liz realizes it and gets teary eyed because she knows in her heart that he does love her and that she does need to keep them secret still. She decides to leave the Victory Celebration as Brady watches her go. OMG! I love these two! Liz is such a strong, smart to stand on her own two feet. Brady is the perfect politician that he has been groomed to be...good speaker, good looking, good personality! I can't wait to see these two have their happy ever after! It's going to be explosive!

Whether or not you’ve read any of K.A. Linde’s books or not you WILL LOVE this book. Please don’t let the tops of journalism and politics prevent you from reading. I’d read her Avoiding series and was a little worried that I wouldn’t like OTR because of the politics. DO NOT! I repeat DO NOT let that discourage you. K.A. Linde found the perfect balance between romance and politics. Liz Dougherty is a college Junior Reporter who gets a huge break when asks one question to State Senator Brady Maxwell. Brady is definitely different from some of the male characters K.A.’s other books. He’s not a jerk; he’s upfront with Liz about what he wants and what he can give her. He warns her she might get hurt but Liz decides she’s willing to have a secret affair with the sexy senator. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of OTR and knew instantly that K.A. Linde had another hit on her hands. Yes, I was excited to be able to get my hands on Brady before most, but now I have to wait even longer for OnTR.

I really loved this book. I am sad I now have to wait 2.5 months to read the second book. It was very unpredictable, just when you thought their relationship was going in the "happy" direction, more unexpected twists and turns happen.  Can't wait for the next one!!

Off The Record which is the first installment of K.A. Linde’s Record series. The blurb of course put me in the mindset of Scandal which I am completely addicted to. Politics and forbidden romances what’s not to love. I was all in for this one not to mention that I’m already a fan of Ms. Linde’s work. So when I was approved by Netgalley I did my happy dance and dove in. Liz Dougherty had big dreams of being a reporter and after being on the college newspaper for close to 2yrs she finally received the opportunity she always wanted covering the state’s senator conference. I enjoyed Liz she drive and passion maybe a tad naive but who wouldn’t be with a hot man in a powerful position.  After being stomped by Liz during the conference Senator Brady Maxwell was completely intrigued by her and just had to know her. I’m not sure how I felt about Brady on one hand he was sweet, exciting, sexy, basically swoon worthy. On the other he was a complete flake.  The romance between these two was every bit of complicated. Brady had a need for Liz, but it was on his time and his terms. Which was not always convenient or healthy. As his numbers continued to climb in the polls the stolen moments with Liz spiraled downward. As much as I wanted them to workout and have their HEA. I could easily see that Brady had other priorities which was disappointing. It was an endless cycle of highs and lows with these two. I’m hoping that as their story continues that Brady realizes that sometimes you have to go with your heart  that or Liz shows him the dueces. **an arc copy was gifted to me via Netgalley in exchange of my honest opinion**

Sleek, suave, sexy... but is he truthful or keeping secrets? Liz cannot help herself around him. He is so charismatic she will do anything to be with him and please him. Brady Maxwell III is most definitely the typical politician with that something more that appeals to the masses. What started as an assignment for her college newspaper evolves into a full blown love affair. I felt so sorry for her... I could just see that someone as naive and Liz was being swallowed alive by the political machinery that is Brady Maxwell III. I have to admit, though, deep down you know he loves her and wants to be with her and be his true honest self. The problem is he has been brought up to continue the family legacy and perhaps even become President. He will have to choose between Liz or winning and pursuing his political career. She is not what would be considered "suitable" as his partner. I was deeply immersed in this story. It plays so true to life, you forget these are fictional characters. It has always interested me that politics demands so much of their servants. It is an impossible image they must live up to. We are all human and we make mistakes, love the wrong person, and want to be honest and true to our believes. Politicians, if they want to be successful, must adapt their lives or live a lie in order to win because they must meet impossible expectations. I was sorry to see the book end, but never fear there is a book #2 ON THE RECORD scheduled for late Summer. Be forewarned-- it does end on a cliffhanger and leaves you with a "book hangover". This book is so good, you should still read it and experience Liz's journey into adulthood and maturity.

*Very mild spoilers. Nothing specific. Just my feelings surrounding the events* If it were possible to experience a book for the first time again, I would want it to be this book. Off the Record blew my mind. I couldn't get enough of Brady and Liz together.  I read it in one sitting and loved every second of it. First off, where is my Brady? Because the one in this book is pretty fab-tastic and I want one of my own. And Liz! Gah! Her raw emotions and her ability to stand up for what she wants is exactly what I want to see in a heroine. Ms. Linde gets my vote in every aspect of this book. Plot, characters, emotions, sex, chemistry, everything is deserving of 5 stars! Brady Maxwell is a man of power and money. He gets what he wants, and when he wants it. But when Liz Dougherty steps on the scene, she finally proves to him there is one thing he can't have. Her. As a politician who just announced his candidacy for a seat in the House, Brady can't afford to be caught with a college news reporter from his Alma Mater. There are too many strings attached and too many hurdles to jump. Chemistry this magnetic is a force to be reckoned with though. They know it's wrong. They know it can never go anywhere. But they can't stop. Be it the forbidden aspect, or their off the charts sexual encounters, Liz and Brady can't throw away what they have. In a series of stolen kisses, romantic getaways, and close calls these two toe the line of ruining both of their careers. It always seemed like it was Brady's choice to make. Liz or politics. But when it comes down to it, she will end up making the decision for them both. Off the Record is one of my new favorites. It left me wanting and needing more. It gave me the most awful book hangover. This is a book where I felt everything the characters did. There were also times I took a step back and begged the characters to rethink their choices. It was heart-aching, but seductively dazzling at the same time. Brady and Liz's time together was equal parts sweet and raunchy. And their time apart made me want to weep. I have a hate-love relationship with this book. I knew where it was going, and I went with it anyways. In truth I have no one to hate but myself. It was like being in slow-mo, seeing a baseball come right at you and still not moving. Yet, I continued to devour the whole thing. I'm not sure what that says about me, but we're not focusing on that right now :) This book is nothing short of phenomenal. As a new reader of Ms. Linde's, this book has already convinced me that she deserves a spot on my auto-buy list as well as my bookshelf! I can guarantee you, I will be not so patiently waiting for the arrival of Brady and Liz part two. *Note: this is not a cliffhanger by my standards but, it will be an ongoing series with the same couple. Happy Reading! *ARC provided by the author/publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

4.5 stars First Impression: I was definitely intrigued. I'm not one to get overly involved in politics, but I am fascinated with the behind the scenes type of stories. Plus, I'm a fan of Linde's writing, so I was anxious to get to know Brady and Liz.  The story: Liz is a college newspaper reporter who is assigned to cover a press conference for an up and coming State Senator. At the end of the press conference, she takes a chance and throws the senator a curve ball question. Little did she know that her question would trigger the start of a new secret relationship between she and the senator.  The story that unfolds from that point is complicated. Liz is quickly falling for Brady and while she understands the need for secrecy, it's putting a toll on their relationship. There's also her friendship with her editor, Hayden, that may be moving from friendship to something more.  As Brady's star continues to rise, Liz is left standing in the shadows. Brady has firm expectations about where he wants his career to go, but will he choose to have Liz by his side or let her go? The characters: I have to say that I really liked Liz. It surprised me a little, because I tend to favor Linde's male characters over her ladies. But, I liked Liz's ambition, her sense of humor and the fact that she lives in reality. She is not blinded by Brady's fame. Sure, it poses a lot of obstacles. Sure, she's attracted to his persona, but she sees the Brady no one else gets to see and that's who she fell for. I also liked her because she didn't chase Brady. She understood going into the relationship that there would be challenges and yes, she would like to be recognized as his girlfriend, but she also knows what they can handle. I'll be interested to see how Liz tackles the new challenges she may be facing.  Brady...sigh...Brady. You know, I like a confidant man. In reality, the idea of being involved with someone "famous" wouldn't appeal to me. I don't trust easily, so that would be hard for me to handle. But in fantasy land, I like guys like Brady. He's smart, charismatic, certainly sexy and ambitious. I felt for Brady in this book though. He struggles to balance what he wants long term for his career and his personal life. He loves Liz, but he can't make her his priority. It made me sad and often frustrated, but I understood his conflict. I really fell for him.  I have to say that at this point, I do like Hayden. I think he's a good guy and possibly more suited for Liz right now. It's clear that Hayden is interested in Liz, but I wasn't impressed with his lack of aggression. I felt like if he wanted Liz so bad, he should have made more of an effort. I'm curious to see what will happen with Hayden in the next book.  What didn't work for me: I understand the dynamic at this point, but I'm really hoping this won't be a major love triangle. They don't bother me a whole lot, but I just don't think I can handle Linde ripping my heart out again.  Overall: I loved it! I've been lucky in finding some great reads lately and this book is among the top of that list. I didn't want to put it down and when I had to, it stayed on my mind. It's days later and I'm still thinking about this book. I can tell you that Off the Record shouldn't be missed. I really loved every minute.  Side note: Linde is an extremely talented author, period. One of the things I like the most about her writing is that she puts a lot of true life experience in her novels. I enjoyed this book, because I imagine she used her experience from helping with the last presidential campaign, which in turn helped bring the story to life. I could literally visualize the scenes. Well done.  Quotes: ~ "I didn't come here to talk politics with you, baby," Brady said, pushing the door closed behind them. "Lecture me after I'm done with you."-Loc 1454 ~She would never forget the day she brought a Senator to his knees. She couldn't keep the smirk off her face at the thought.-Loc 1475 ~"You're the only person I've ever met who so completely disarms me. I feel like sometimes you aren't looking at me; you're looking through me. Like you know every single secret in my you know exactly what I'm thinking. That was exactly what I meant that very first day we met, when I told you that you were my airplane. You totally f*ck me up, Liz!"-Loc 6716 ~Sometimes the decision about whether or not to stay with Brady felt easy, and sometimes it didn't feel like a decision at all.-Loc 6751

Brady sighed. "This is almost whatever you want it to be. It's not public. It's not in the news. It's not a point the campaign can use against me. It's a woman and a man taking what they can in a world where it's not feasible for us to be together. I'm not promising you much, but I'm only asking for discretion. Everything else you give me is up to you." “We should go,” he said, lust evident in his voice.  Even knowing it could be a bad idea, she nodded.  “Couldn’t agree more.” This is the first book I have read by K.A. Linde and it was an amazingly written story.  I started reading this book and could not put my Kindle down.  A forbidden love affair with a hint of a love-triangle create a page turning drama that is full of angst, need, and, most importantly, lust with a twist of love.  The main characters, Liz and Brady, meet and there is an instant attraction between them.  Liz is smart, feisty, and independent.  Brady is sinfully sexy, confident and driven to succeed on his campaign at all cost.   I can’t wait to read the second in this series.   Overall rating: 4.5 Rockin’ Stars

5 For the Record Stars Liz has been working hard at her degree in journalism and she is lucky to have been chosen by Hayden, the editor, to be the reporter for their college paper, at a political news conference. Brady Maxwell has a press conference to announce that he is running for the house and he is thrown a curve ball by the challenging question Liz throws his way.  Brady seeks Liz out later after he sees her at a club and though she initially does not believe in him as a candidate she is intrigued by him as a man. The two want to be together but because of his upcoming campaign and her being a journalist who has been outspoken against him, it seems near impossible. So they have a secret romance. Initially it is enough for Liz, but when her heart takes over the reins from her hormones, the secret romance may not be enough especially since her boss that she has been crushing on for 2 years has finally taken notice.  This book had me all over the place with my emotions. I loved that Liz took a chance on something she wanted, I get a one night stand, but she should have known her heart would get involved. She is still young and why does it always happen that the guy you have crushed on for years(Hayden) doesn't take notice til someone else has gotten your attention. Brady, uggh. I really am not sure how I feel about him. He obviously is everything a girl could want and you have to admire his determination, but really, the crazy angst he put Liz through was just a bit too much at times. There were points that I was seriously wondering and hoping if she should just end up with Hayden but then Brady would go and do something that made me think he was worth the wait, like the letters or him coming to her after getting too drunk. I was a bit bothered that he always seemed to have a one track mind on sex but then we get glimpses from him that there was more to him and seriously, he was saved in my mind with the last chapter being from his POV. The problem is that while I was flipping away around 90%wondering how Linde was gonna be able to wrap everything and my adrenaline is pumping waiting for some grand gesture from Brady, it never comes. I am left with my mouth open and my mind reeling and a strong desire to read the next book NOW. Cliffhangers...I love them, I hate them kinda like my feelings for Brady. Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
