Overview

In the latest Friends First novel from USA Today bestselling author Laura Drewry—perfect for readers of Jill Shalvis and Susan Mallery—a woman who can’t slow down discovers that the perfect guy is in hot pursuit.

Even when her hair salon goes under and she’s on the brink of breaking, Regan Burke keeps her “I’m just fine” attitude. She’s had a tough life, coping with a difficult family and keeping her act together . . . barely. Right now, she just needs a job, any job, so she can pay her mother’s medical bills. It’s the exact wrong time for Carter Scott to come into her life—and to be so damn sexy, so distracting, and so determined to get close.

Carter isn’t looking for anything serious—his heart belongs to the kids who depend on his pediatric practice—but something about Regan makes him reconsider. Maybe it’s the scars she hides so well, the secrets she can’t share. Carter knows all about that kind of pain, and he wants to help. But offering Regan a job in his office only makes things worse, even if their chemistry is off the charts. Lucky for them both, Carter isn’t about to let go of love without a fight.

Secrets swirl in the story of hair stylist Regan Burke and pediatrician Carter Scott, who met months ago at a wedding. It's now New Year's Eve, and the two meet again, with passionate results. Girlie Regan decides it was a lovely evening, and Rational Regan says it was a one-night stand. Rational Regan wins and focuses on how to make a living now that her beauty shop lease wasn't renewed. Coincidentally, Carter needs a receptionist for his new office. The two agree to maintain a professional relationship, but the tension between them unfolds as they uphold their promises and begin to uncover not only each other's secrets but those held by the friends and family around them.
Verdict Carter and Regan are strong, guarded characters who work hard to keep their personal trials and tribulations out of their social lives. Readers will peel off each layer of the plot to reveal who Carter and Regan really are. The story is convincing, but readers may be distracted by the Star Wars references that are tied to Regan's obsession with the films, though Carter's original Star Wars pickup lines are amusing. Drewry, a USA Today best-selling author, has previously published five novels, including Plain Jayne.—Joyce Sparrow, Kenneth City, FL

love the electrifying chemistry Regan and Carter have together. I love the way their first kiss was described. "Melt your knees" delicious. I love how Carter is seriously smitten with everything about her. He can't stop grinning. I love how her butterflies in her stomach has friends whenever he walks into the room. Even though they both are not the settling down types. Yet for some reason they gravitate towards each other. There is something in her eyes he finds affinity with and wants to know more, wants to help. They slowly grow more attached. They each have huge burdens in their lives. That is why they understand each other, help each other deal. Carter is such a sweet, melt your heart guy wrapped up in a sexy, lopsided grin, death star boxer wearing guy. Regan is a strong and in control woman wrapped around a woman who would do everything it takes to take care of family. Such a beautiful story and sigh worthy ending. Another winner!

This book is hard for me to review only because I don’t know if there was a reason that I didn’t like it. It just was kinda boring for me. I like contemporary romances and this one didn’t have anything worse or different than other contemporary ones that I have liked. I just was very bored with this book. It may have been the writing style or the pace, but I just wasn’t crazy about it.  The girl irritated me at first till you realize that she has good reasons for how she acts. I supported her through out the book because I thought the other characters were being unfair to her. It was that great though that it seemed like she pissed off a lot of guys in the book, guys that are friends or dating/married to her other friends. The guys just seemed really mean to me. I did like the very complicated relationship that she had with her mother. I related really well to that so I liked that it was a part of the story instead of dismissing the parents like authors sometimes do.  The guy was ok. He was a very sweet doctor. Since he is so sweet, I just didn’t buy the whole bad boy thing that I think the author was going for. I don’t know if there are other books by this author where you see this, but if reading as a standalone, I didn’t buy him being a bad boy. That was a problem for me.  Again, don’t know if there was one thing, but it just wasn’t my favorite. Still love that cover though! 3/5  I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Laura Drewry captured my heart and soul with her latest novel Prima Donna. I fell absolutely in love with Regan Burke who is a strong-willed, head strong women who knows what she wants in life and doesn't take crap from anyone. She is a tough, but feminine character who readers can relate to and find a connection with. Drewry does a great job in creating a character who you can connect with and root for with her creative writing skills and will capture your attention and keep you guessing - and laughing too. I loved Carter - he is smart, handsome, funny and charming ... did I say charming. A ladies man who also loves kids .... he is a pediatrician ... sexy ladies, very sexy .... And boy can he woo a women ... very seductively and smoking hot too. The passion between the two characters will leave you steamy and wanting more and the romance will leave you breathless. Drewry knows how to deliver ... hook, line and sinker ... This is another Bestselling Novel on her hands, as Prima Donna is definite must read.

I loved this book! It is the first book that I have read by Laura Drewry and now I need to go back and read Plain Jayne. Welcome to my list of must read authors Laura! I fell in love with Dr. Carter Scott instantly. Oh yes, from the very first chapter. An unconventional, hot pediatrician? Swoon! And Reagan is feisty and fun. I had several laugh out loud and make my heart melt moments in this book. My heart also hurt for Reagan and what she had to go through with her Mom. I would definitely recommend this book! I am hoping that we will learn more about Ellie, Maya and Griffin Carr!

Loved this one! A great small town romance that is filled with emotion, humor, and fun romantic times. Reagan is a fiercely independent woman who is immediately overwhelmed when Carter, the fun loving womanizing doctor, pushes into her life. This is one you should put on the must read list. I highly recommend it!
