Overview

You think seeing ghosts is weird? Tell me something I don't know.

My childhood best friend Jeremy, happens to be a ghost.

Besides that, my life is totally normal. Well except that my dad went missing when I was six. But my mom makes it work. And I have annoying brother. See, normal?

So why does my life feel like a train wreck waiting to happen... oh yeah because now Jeremy is also missing.

Fate intervenes when Hugh, with his stunning golden eyes and similar dark hair, starts taking an interest in me. He divulges that he also shares my little "gift" of seeing the dead. Should I be freaked out? Yes. But am I? Okay, but only a little bit.

Senior year is hard enough as it is, but clearly I like a challenge.

I read this book so my daughter could read it. One of the reviewers had mentioned that this book had sex. The characters do have sex but it is implied NOT described in anyway. The characters are both over 18 and virgins. I agree sex does not belong in YA books but if they were all written like this one I would have to screen a lot less. It is a pleasant read and it's like the entire book is setting you up for the next book. I will say that I will probably read the 2nd book cause this book ended right when the story was getting good.

Really enjoyed this book! Half way thru the book, I was hoping for a sequel! Its not a sex-crazed book, which is good for a change! Love the paranormal! Will continue to read Brina Courtney's books!

This copy was provided to me via the Goodreads Group Lovers of Paranormal on August 10, 2012, from Smashwords, in return for my provision of a fair, honest, and authentic review. Review of Reveal by Brina Courtney A Cryptid Novel/Cryptid Tales #1 Reviewed for Lovers of Paranormal GR Group I really enjoyed this fast-paced and engaging novel, with empathetic characters and a good reader’s hook. Shay is eighteen, finishing her senior year, and a ghost-talker. That is, since her father inexplicably disappears one day when Shay is six and her brother Chad is a toddler, she has seen, been visited by, and had dialogue with ghosts-the first is Jeremy, a boy left in an orphanage at age three, and dead at six in the orphanage fire which took so many lives in 1942. The book starts out with a bang, and just keeps getting better. Shay is a likable protagonist, and not “quite-the-usual-YA”-she has only one good friend, she avoids high school drunk-outs, and she’s close to her mother and younger brother. Of course, she also has a dad missing for 12 years, and she experiences ghost encounters on a regular basis. Not to mention, she’s crushing on a University student who fills out the category of Tall, Dark, and Handsome-and is also a ghostly encounterer himself! I think any readers of YA Paranormal are going to love this book, and believe this one, I am sure hoping it’s a series! “Reveal” is very well-written, intriguing, and I had no trouble turning the pages as quickly as I could read-my interest never once flagged. Thank you, Brina Courtney.

You know it's good when you can't stop thinking about the characters the day after you finish the book. I loved Shay and Hugh. The ending leaves you feeling like you just ran off a cliff. So of course I had to had buy book2 titled Capture. Before I start reading it I have to search google image for my Hugh. I def recommend the book.

What a great book. Totally a different kind of paranormal than i am used to but Brina Courtney sure did bring it. Shay is a very strong girl who loses her father at age six. Disappears never to be heard from. She goes on a journey that she truly finds herself, what happened to her father and her soul mate. She is a Cryptid. " The human cell is something to be admired. It adapts to survive in the most unusual circumstances. Splicing occurs when you mix animal cells with human cells, which results in what some scientists call a parahuman, a type of cryptid. A cryptid can be described as a paranormal being with some animal-like traits." Shay finds out that her dad was one and that she has inherited it too; They are part human part cat. This story was definitely a journey for both the character and the reader. Cant wait to see where the next book takes us. Go out and buy it today.

Brina captured me with sentence one of this amazing story. She has taken the context of a paranormal YA romance and through the relatability of Shay, Hugh and Jeremy, has created s a heartbreaking humanity to a world made of fantastical beings and possibilities. Shay's world based on pain and loss, yet you never feel the absence of hope. I cannot voice enough how engaging Brina's writing and story was. I read ravenously and this book was quickly consumed because of it's unique story line and the draw of its fully formed characters. I really hope you will take my advice and pick up a copy. I can tell this will be the start of long love affair with this amazing writer's words and worlds. It truly is a must read. SO, stop reading this review and pick it up already. I mean, it's just a click away.

The original premise seemed interesting enough: a girl who sees and talks to ghosts. After all Stephen King and Dean Koontz manage to pull it off quite well and craft strange but believable tales. But the author took a weird left turn somewhere around chapter 14 and totally lost me. I finished the book largely out of personal stubbornness but was overwhelmingly disappointed in the overall work. The author would also do well to drop a few shekels into the stream of trade and hire a good editor and proof reader. Need I say that I won't be waiting for any sequels?

Shay has been able to communicate with ghosts for as long as she can remember. Her guide has been Jeremy, a young boy that perished in a fire at the orphanage he lived at. Then one day she gets upset and accidently banishes him which she has regretted since then. As Shay is finishing her senior year at high school, she runs into a cute guy, Huge, at the college that her mother works at. She also meets Wendy, a 6 year-old girl that is looking for her father. Through her, Shay learns that she can summon ghosts from another plane and she learns that Huge and she have more in common than she first though. But she has little time to learn about her new abilities. The Darkness, which started the fire at the orphanage is back and is looking to get its hands on her. This is a great book. I felt for Shay, she lost her father, can communicate with ghosts, and learns there is more to her than just the talking to the ghosts. I also felt for Huge, you can tell that he didn’t really have much and he has this horrible ability to do the wrong thing when it comes to teaching Shay about her powers. But in the end he is a good guy. I can’t wait to find out what happens in the nest book. This is a one young adult paranormal story that you don’t want to miss.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. SHAY ~ Has no father figure growing up and her childhood memories aren't of picnics and fishing but rather talking to the dead!  A macabre ability she tries to hide for obvious reasons!?  Her "bestie" is Jeremy who happens to be dead (go figure). There's a twist to her "gifts" and all is not as it seems, unknown to Shay she is a part of something much bigger than herself. HUGH~The hunk she's had her eye on for some time shares her "gift" and he has the answers to many of her questions.  "Cryptids" ~ A new concept for me they're half human, half animal, but they're not like werewolves or shapeshifters.  They're something unique and different.  It was an easy & entertaining read, and I can't help but ask myself "What's next?" ¿¿¿¿ Reviewed by Heidi

I loved it! I like the way it was told and the suspense of it all. I also liked that it was all connected in the end, even if it was a little expected.

This book was a pretty good read. Nice change in plot from typical paranormal subjects. I enjoyed reading overall but would not say it was one I could not put down.
