Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.I remember, back in good 'ol 2008, when my awesome SAGE teacher told her class, me included, about a book called Maximum Ride. I listened as she described it, and built myself a mental picture of the story. I thought, Okay. It sounds like a good book.
Then I read it.
And absolutely, positively fell head-over-heels in love with it.
It even beat out the Twilight series and Harry Potter! In the course of twenty-four hours, I inhaled The Angel Experiment. The next day, I had to read the next one! That day passed and I was done with School's Out- Forever, then another day and I'd finished Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports.
Saving the World is definitely in my top-three Maximum Ride book list. It was suspenseful and absorbing, and I never got bored with it. Max and her flock of human-avian hybrid kids had their backs against a wall, yet again. The School, the executions, retirement getting a totally new and gruesome meaning, Angel the traitor, Jeb, the whitecoats, escape becoming more valuable each day, yet becoming also more impossible-
But I've said too much.
The plot itself has so many possibilities. I'm glad James Patterson was the author to take on this novel. He's good with this kind of thing, and I can't see the characters any other way. They make a very big impact on the story, their personalitites alone, and on their readers. So many climaxes, it's almost impossible to call one the most surprising. Death and destruction is at every turn, and all this is simply the basis for Patterson's work. Bravo.
I can almost feel their adrenaline, feel their pain, the wind in their hair and faces, the sun on their skin, the pain the whitecoats put them through, the aching in their wounds and hearts when they see Jeb, and the suspense atmosphere is totally impossible to miss. It's like you're there with the flock. Like you're in the flock. Amazing. That's not even close to enough to describe it.
One of my favorite things about Maximum Ride is the characters. They're good role models for children most of the time, and they amaze me. The flock is full-blooded and three-dimensional. They seem so real, like I could go out and meet Max and the flock. They're tough and strong, sarcastic, witty, interesting, hilarious, laugh-out-loud riots, but they're down to earth if you can see them as just normal people. They're a much-needed break from today's so-so drama/comedy that everyone in America bores themselves with nowadays.
What I love about Maximum Ride as a book and Max herself, as a character, or a person, is that she's different. She's not like any other fourteen-year-old girl in the world. Not just because of the whole mutant-experiment thing, but she's different. She doesn't care about the newest clothing line coming out this season, or having the newest cell phone on sale today, and definitely not her hair. She worried mostly about a) Saving the world. b) Keeping her flock safe. c) Surving. Everything else can wait.
It's hard for me to describe this myself and totally capture the essence of Maximum Ride. It's better to experience it first hand. What are you waiting for? Grab a copy of Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports and read it! You'll see what I'm talking about.

I Also Recommend:
"Maximum Ride: Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports," is a Science Fiction young adult novel. It is written by James Patterson, and published by Little Brown Books. This book is about a flock of six kids who got injected with a certain type of DNA. This DNA caused them to have wings. There are groups of people who work at a place called "Itex," or "The School", and these people the kids call the white coats. They are the creators of the kids, but the kids aren't the only thing they have created. These so called white coats made these other creatures called Erasers and they're sent out to kill the flock, but every time they have tried, the flock remains undefeated. Then they made robots called fly boys, and they're like the newer version of erasers. Max and the flock beat the Erasers but can they remain undefeated while fighting the flyboys?
Max and Fang separate from the younger group of kids, in search of a new home. They haven't seen erasers in four days, so they aren't very worried about leaving the rest of the flock alone. Although they don't think that the kids will be found, ironically, they are captured.
This led to many more adventures. The suspense will just drag you into the book. The action in this book is awesome, and it has a little bit of romance. The romance in this book adds a little kick to the story. The action in this book and the romance makes it ten times better, because it will lead to other events that will blow your mind away.
Everybody should read this book because it has such great detail. The Author has a great imagination, and makes everything sound so real. Every time I read this book, it played a little movie in my head, and I think that's what makes it seem so real. The way he describes each and every thing, such as facial structures and the way they look, the way they change, and the way they're different is definitely unlike anything I have ever read before. James Patterson's books are the most detailed, and his books are so far the best I've ever read. Other people should read them. Once you start you can't stop, all the action makes you want to read more, and more. James Patterson is so far one of my favorite author.

I can finish the book in one day, but because homework is interfering my reading time, I finished it in 3 days. I love the book so much. I'm gonna read the next book after I got home. Definitely worth rereading.

My tip for all middle school teachers: you have to buy this series. Even high school teachers: buy this series for it is addicting!!! Be sure to keep multiple copies of the other books on hand so the students don't need to wait to read the others. The saga of Max continues as the group splits up for a time and Gazzy, Iggy, Angel, and Nudge choose sides between Fang and Max. This is a fast paced novel, which is sure to entertain until the last page.

This is my favorite book EVER. No doubt about it. It carries on the tradition of Maximum Ride, with the Flock and flying and Max's dry wit, not to mention amazing chocolate chip cookies, but with more world-saving. And not cheesy global warming crap (no kidding I am a huge environmentalist but that kinda stuff just doesn't work out in books, especially not Maximum Ride books ;]), but actual invading bad places, uniting kids, discovering the answers to questions. Max and Fang finally quit playing it cool and kissed, but it's not like lovey-dovey OMG I LOVE YOU stuff the rest of the time... If anything, they go back to being pretty aloof, but with Fang making wise cracks at Max. There is so much more I could say but I would bore you to tears, and I want you to read the book. Hope you like it; I know I did, and I will definitely be ready for the next maximum ride. ;]

Maximum Ride(Max) and her flock are on the run...AGAIN! but this time...so much more drama, fights, and o ya... secrets! this book has got to be the most thrilling one of all! Max and Fang start to move "closer" to each other. But then Max freaks out and they're back to where they were. Then when they are captured by ITEX, Max is told something thaat makes put the book down for a moment and say, "shut up!" Then, they escape. Max comes to heart and decides to take Jeb's son, Ari-who happens to also be a mutant 7 year old freak raised to do evil. Fang is ticked at Max and gives her 2 options-Him or Ari? Max tells him that Ari has changed and will die soon anyway, but stubbern Fang doesn't care. Him, Iggy, and Gazzy leave Max, Nudge, Angel, Total, and Ari. Will they still be able to save the world. So many twists and turns jump out at any time. Someone in the flock turns against them. Max finds her mom...or is it her mom? Jeb find his long lost child no one knew about. And Max confesses her true feeling for Fang. Will it be enough?

Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.Max and the flock are back. While she continues to keep the flock safe, she also has to figure out how she is supposed to save the world. The evil plan is days away from unfolding. Half of the people in the world are going to be killed in order to give the worthy ones that remain a chance to thrive. The human race has done such a poor job of taking care of the planet that the Itex Corporation decided only the people with something to offer deserve the right to live in it.
Another problem the flock is dealing with is the creation of an updated version of Erasers. Now made of metal and covered with a layer of skin, learning how to take them out takes a little time - especially since these "Flyboys" come equipped with guns!
Relationships are strained within the flock in this latest installment of the MAXIMUM RIDE saga. Fang continues to update his blog and attempt to enlist children from around the world to become involved with the fight against Itex and all its subsidiaries. Max doesn't have faith that kids can help, which, of course, causes friction between them and ultimately leads to a split in the group.
The reader is tugged along on a roller coaster ride adventure with Max's constant sarcastic commentary to guide them. We see familiar faces as well as meet brand new players in this deadly game. Max manages to thwart disaster, reconcile the flock, and discover the identity of her parents. James Patterson does a nice job of tying up loose ends and leaves the story with a satisfying ending. If there isn't a fourth installment, fans will be happy with the way Max and the rest of the flock land on their feet.

I LOVE this book! It had a great plot, a lot of HUGE surprises, and it ended perfectly. It was probably the funniest out of all three Maximum Ride books, and maybe the most interesting. The day I got it, I didn't start reading it until 12:30 at night, and then stayed up till 5:00 in the morning reading it. Then the next morning I finished it as soon as I woke up. This is one of my all-time favorite books! It was unpredictable (with these books, EVERYTHING could go ANY way--it's just impossible to know for sure what will happen), exciting, fast-paced, really funny, and I just enjoyed reading it so much.
