Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
In this stand-alone sequel to The Angel Experiment, bird-kid Max and her flock fly south to reunite with their parents. But their perilous mission runs into stiff winds when they are apprehended by an FBI agent who dispatches them to the worst nightmare destination: school! Max's homework assignment include decoding documents that might have help save the world and protect her from Max II, a clone who knows her every move. Action; suspense; plot surprises: all James Patterson specialties.
Publishers Weekly
Max, Fang, Iggy, Gasman, Nudge and Angel are being hunted by killers. No big deal because these kids can fly, literally. But how will this new threat to their safety affect their mission to save the world? Listeners will find out in School's Out Forever, James Patterson's second installment of the Maximum Ride series narrated with aplomb by Valentina de Angelis. (June). From The Critics
This novel is a compelling sequel to a compelling first book. It grabs readers straight from the start and reels them in with new excitements on every page. Adventure, fighting, backstabbing, and love abound throughout the book, while still allotting time to develop characters one cares about. Patterson satisfies fans of the series by incorporating new plot lines into the story, while still using the ones laid out in the first book. It sets up well for a third book, which is destined to be another delight, in which Max might actually save the world. Meet the Author

James Patterson
James Patterson
Not making any bones about his bid for success, James Patterson once declared he wanted to be known as “the king of the page-turners.” While that may seem like a pretty grand ambition, Patterson is as worthy of that title as any author working today.

Biography

James Patterson had been working as a very successful advertising copywriter when he decided to put his Masters degree in English to a somewhat different use. Inspired by bestselling hair-raising thrillers like The Day of the Jackal and The Exorcist, Patterson went to work on his first novel. Published in 1976, The Thomas Berryman Number established him as a writer of tightly constructed mysteries that move forward with the velocity of a bullet. For his startling debut, Patterson was awarded the prestigious Edgar Award for Best First Mystery Novel—an auspicious beginning to one of the most successful careers in publishing.

A string of gripping standalone mysteries followed, but it was the 1992 release of Along Came a Spider that elevated Patterson to superstar status. Introducing Alex Cross, a brilliant black police detective/forensic psychologist, the novel was the first installment in a series of bestselling thrillers that has proved to be a cash cow for the author and his publisher.

Examining Patterson's track record, it's obvious that he believes one good series deserves another…maybe even a third! In 2001, he debuted the Women's Murder Club with 1st to Die, a fast-paced thriller featuring four female crime fighters living in San Francisco—a homicide detective, a medical examiner, an assistant D.A., and a cub reporter. The successful series has continued with other numerically titled installments. Then, spinning off a set of characters from a previous novel (1998's When the Wind Blows), in 2005 he published Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment. Featuring a "flock" of genetically engineered flying children, the novel was a huge hit, especially with teen readers, and spawned a series of vastly popular fantasy adventures.

In addition to continuing his bestselling literary franchises, Patterson has also found time to co-author thrillers with other writers—including Peter de Jonge, Andrew Gross, Maxine Paetro, and Howard Roughan—and has even ventured into romance (Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas, Sam's Letters to Jennifer) and children's literature (santaKid). Writing at an astonishing pace, this prolific author has turned himself into a one-man publishing juggernaut, fulfilling his clearly stated ambition to become "the king of the page-turners."

Good To Know

Patterson's Suzanne's Diary For Nicholas was inspired by a diary his wife kept that tracked the development of their toddler son.

Two of Patterson's Alex Cross mysteries (Along Came a Spider and Kiss the Girls) have been turned into films starring Morgan Freeman; in 2007, a weekly television series premiered, based on the bestselling Women's Murder Club novels.

Chapter One

Yep. Flying Erasers. These Erasers had wings, which was a new and revolting development on the Eraser front. Half-wolf, half-human, and now half-avian? That couldn't be a happy mix. And they were headed our way at about eighty miles an hour.

"Erasers, version 6.5," Fang said.

Split up, Max. Think 3-D, said my Voice.

"Split up!" I ordered. "Nudge! Gazzy! Nine o'clock! Angel, up top. Move it! Iggy and Fang, flank me from below! Fang, ditch the dog!"

"Nooo, Fang!" screeched Angel.

The Erasers slowed as we fanned out, their huge, heavy-looking wings backbeating the air. It was almost pitch-black now, with no moon and no city lights below. I was still able to see their teeth, their pointed fangs, their smiles of excitement. They were on a hunt-it was party time!

Here we go, I thought, feeling adrenaline speeding up my heart. I launched myself at the biggest one, swinging my feet under me to smash against his chest. He rolled back but righted himself and came at me again, claws slashing the air.

I bobbed, feeling his paws whip right past my face. I turned sharply just in time to have a hard, hairy fist crash into my head.

I dropped ten feet quickly, then surged back up on theoffensive.

In my peripheral vision, I saw Fang clap both hands hard against an Eraser's furry ears. The Eraser screamed, holding his head, and started to lose altitude. Fang had Total in his backpack. He rolled out of harm's way, and I took his place, catching another Eraser in the mouth with a hard side kick.

I grabbed one of his arms, twisting it violently in back of him. It was harder in the air, but then I heard a loud pop.

The Eraser screamed and dropped, careening downward until he caught himself and flew clumsily away, one arm dangling.

Above me an Eraser lashed out at Nudge, but she dodged out of the way.

Max? Size isn't everything, said the Voice.

    I Also Recommend:

A Maximum Ride reveiw, how a kid would say it.

This book is amazing. I think it is the best book in the whole series (though you should read them all). It's captivating, enthralling, brilliant, thrilling, and just down right hilarious. It may have a lower level vocabulary, but it's characters are just as charming and witty as a master like Shakespeare or J.K. Rowling. The characters are brilliantly developed, and completely realistic. No fake, unbeleivable personalities here. The plotline is complex, full of brialliant twists and turns. Just as you think you've figured it out, Patterson takes you around another bend, and your theory is blown to pieces. But, sometimes books have exciting plotlines in some parts, and boring areas in others. Not Maximum Ride. It's a must read all the way through, from the first page to the last. It may be a fantasy, but it has some very real topics in it, from global warming, to a teen's crazy love life, to an obsession over choclate chip cookies. It's wonderfully written so that you enjoy the fantasy, wish-it-were-you feeling, but also see the real issues portrayed in the book. The characters and emotions are so believable, sometimes you feel it could really happen. I'm a teenager, and I feel exactly as Max does when she's tumbling through her adventures. From her happiness and her excitement, to her confusion and fear, I feel as if I know her, and understand what she's going through. I understand why she does things, or why she doesn't. Basically, she (and the rest of the Flock) are totally beleivable characters. The plot flows with excitement, created by exploding buildings, on-the-fly fights, and an interesting love twist, and the characters are amazingly well developed, creating an all together great book. What more could anyone want?

    Open the mind

I was orginally asking for Witch and Wizard by James Patterson for Christmas but my mom bought me this whole series instead. I was a little dissapointed that I didn't get the books I wanted but, out of politness I was going to read these books anyways. So I picked up the first one and I loved it. Right now i'm currently reading the fourth out of five. I really like how I can relate to Max, and how that when James Patterson writes it's not always about the same exact thing. Every series has a different plot, and I think that all his books are great. I definetly reccomend these books to anyone who loves to read, it's well worth your time.

    Max Forever

This is probably the best of the maximum ride series. I have read the whole series 3 times and this is the one i enjoy the most every time i reread the series. I love the max books and cant wait for nevermore to come out(the book after Angel). This is probably my favorite because it has the most action, most wisecracks, kick (insert word not supposed to say) battles, awesomeness and twists. Every time i read it there is something i didnt remember about it from the last time. This is my favorite book ever and i get in trouble for reading too much all the time so that is comparing it to alot of books!
    Now to the actual book

Fang gets injured in a fight, and the flock, max and her family, have to go to a human hospital or he'll die. Why is that a problem u may ask? Only because they are former lab experiments with wings of course! So while there of course someone in the hospital staff calls the FBI and they show up. The agents ask stupid questions and get stupid answers in return. The agent interviewing max invites her to stay at her house. Of course max would say no, so the agent threatens not letting the doctors opperate on Fang. Max loves everyone in the flock and the idea of losing anyone, especially her best friend, is tragic, so of course she excepts. When they are there Anne, the agent, forces them to go to school.

That is all im going to say because i could go on and would probably tell u the end before stopping. So i hope u are hooked by now if not read the book anyway and u will be. It is worth the money and the few hours. If u didntread the first one first shame on u because it was really good to. Now after u read this if u dont imediatelly feel like u need to read the next one u need to either get a life or get over urself!

    Just for Fun

This book is fun, but it is not exciting really. It doesn't have any romance at all (not even a hint of it) but it kept me entertained during lunches :)

    Just a really good book

I just love this books because there is a lot of adventure and action. Plus a little romance which makes the story whole. It's about six children Max,Fang,Iggy,Nudge,Gasman, and Angel who just keep getting attacked by Erasers who won't stop till they kill them. But there is also a little jealousy, lying, and some really funny moments. So by all means go out and buy this great book.

    Fun summer series.

I like James Patterson... but I don't like the sex that appears in most of his books. I thought I'd give the teen fiction a shot to remedy this. It worked! Still Patterson, but without the sex. When I was at the store buying the 3rd book a woman was buying the series in hopes her teenage kids would do some summer reading. I think it definitely works for that!

    wow! edward, where's fang!

when i finished Angel Experiment, i went and welcomed hell just to get my copy of School's out-forever and saving the world and other extreme sports. and you know what? part 2 and 3 didn't disappoint me. the second book focused on Max and the flock trying to find any information about the School and about their parents. Well, you already know they grew on tubes and dog crates so knowing their parents are typically out of their knowledge. When Max started to hear a Voice on her head, she and her flock went to different places in US in search of an answer that can help them solve the mystery of their School, about Jeb, their growing need for a normal life, and Max's and Fang's feelings for each other...about the latter part, it came earlier.
So, if any of this reviews doesn't catch your attention, better go to the School and try to wake your blood a little bit...
