Overview

Most Unlikely to Succeed

No one who charted Bruce Halle’s early years would predict that the poor kid from New Hampshire might achieve greatness as an adult. Challenged in school and growing up in a struggling family, Halle looked like every other kid who would leave high school in the 1940s and disappear into a factory.

Instead, Halle created one of America’s most respected companies, rose to join the Forbes magazine list of the four hundred richest Americans and serve as the role model for the ordinary Joes who seek out success at Discount Tire Company.

Six Tires, No Plan maps Halle’s journey out of poverty and failure and reveals the deceptively simple values that drive success for him, his company and thousands of employees. Key among those principles is Halle’s commitment to passing on his good fortune to the thousands of employees who serve his customers every day. This is Halle’s true passion, and paying it forward to the ordinary guy is a cornerstone of Discount Tire’s ongoing success.

Avoiding the spotlight, crediting his employees for the success of the company, Halle demonstrates the incredible power of perseverance and fundamental values to create long-term success. His journey offers a roadmap worth following in both career and life.

Wow! After reading Michael Rosenbaum's last book - Your Name Her

Wow! After reading Michael Rosenbaum's last book - Your Name Here Guide to Life: The book you'd have written, if only you had the time. - I knew that this guy could really write. I wasn't familiar with Bruce Halle, but after reading the description on Amazon, it sounded as though "Six Tires, No Plan" would make for an interesting read.

Over a recent 16-hour plane trip, I both began - and finished - this book; I truly could not put it down. It was evident that Mr. Rosenbaum really completed his due diligence while collecting facts, stories, and testimonials for the Bruce Halle biography - and this came through in the way that this book really "pieces it all together."

I learned much about Bruce's leadership approach through this book - and plan to test out several of his strategies as my career moves forward.

Kudos to Mr. Halle and Mr. Rosenbaum!

If at first you don't succeed...

While I started off not knowing a great deal about Bruce Halle, I was truly impressed with his story. I found it most fascinating that Halle treats his employees as if they are family; he cares about them as individuals, and not just as assets to his business. This is something that is almost unseen in today's world, but throughout Michael Rosenbaum's detailed chronicle of Halle, it helps to explain why the business has been such a long-term success. After reading "Six Tires, No Plan," it's clear why Halle has been such a great accomplishment. This biography is a great read for entry-level employees and upper management alike.

"Six Tires, No Plan" is the amazing story of Bruce Hal

"Six Tires, No Plan" is the amazing story of Bruce Halle, a man who built Discount Tire Company from the ground up over more than 50 years. He knew from the very beginning that it's all about the people - the customers, the employees, and their families - and treating them with integrity, respect and style. There is so much to be learned from this book, all while reading an intriguing, interesting, can't-put-it-down adventure. Michael Rosenbaum did a remarkable job collecting a myriad of details about Bruce Halle's life and Discount Tire Company, and weaving into a masterpiece that can be enjoyed by all. This book is a MUST READ!

    Quick, fun educational read

I've read a number of books by Michael Rosenbaum-he's a talented writer with a clear writing style and a good sense of messaging, light and interesting. "Six Tires, No Plan" tells a remarkable story and provides a lot of life lessons. I enjoyed the story, I got to know the characters, and by the time I was halfway through the book I felt as if I was part of the story-very engaged. I could see the characters doing what they were doing, hear them saying the dialogue. I was sorry I wasn't there being part of it first hand, but I felt pretty darn close to that! Michael did a great job of taking the entire life of Bruce T. Halle and all of the people in his life, and laying it out clearly for the reader. Not too fast, not too slow, the perfect amount of details to tell the story and move it along. Bruce Halle sounds like a great entrepreneur with big picture awareness and attention to detail. I will be using several of the ideas Michael described from Bruce's management style. And I will be recommending "Six Tire, No Plan" to my friends who just like a well written, interesting motivational story.

    A puncture-proof business philosophy

This review is from: Six Tires, No Plan: The Impossible Journey of the Most Inspirational Leader That (Almost) Nobody Knows (Hardcover)
"Six Tires, No Plan" (Greenleaf Book Group Press) tells a remarkable account of how hands-on entrepreneur Bruce Halle built Discount Tire from the ground up into a thriving, respected national chain with some 800 outlets.

For Halle, the long road to success was always linked to both employee and customer satisfaction. While others have paid lip service to these objectives, Halle has made them permanent cornerstones of his business model.

This insightful business biography, well documented by consultant and author Michael Rosenbaum, makes compelling reading.
