Dr. Kara Davis’ latest book is simply amazing. For those who scoff at the Bible or doubt its validity, she cites dozens of medical studies that verify following scriptural principles is good for our health. For example, she describes one study that evaluated more than 1,000 patients with coronary heart disease. It found that participants with generalized anxiety order had a 62 percent higher rate of a recurrent heart incident or death from this disease than those with a more relaxed outlook. She also cites medical evidence of an optimistic outlook literally helping us live longer, and that high-quality marriage can protect against cardiovascular disease. This book is not only worthy of your reading time, it makes an excellent reference volume. Suffice it to say that Paul’s instruction (in Philippians 4:8) to think about “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable” is more than good advice. Dr. Davis helps demonstrate that those words are a prescription for a healthy heart.
