Meet the Author

STARFISH ISLAND is best-selling author Deborah Brown's first romantic suspense novel. If you love the charm and fast pace of her popular Paradise series, then you'll love this engrossing romantic mystery.

My personal ad would read:

There's nothing a new pair of shoes can't cure.

Redhead. Long legs. There's nothing like a strawberry-lemonade in summer. Favorite activity: Filling my pockets with seashells. An avid rule follower when eating Animal Cookies: Broken ones get eaten first, match up the rest, duplicates next, line them up favorite to not, least favorite go first. South Florida is my home, with my ungrateful rescue cats, and where Mother Nature takes out her bad attitude in the form of hurricanes.

I loved Deborah Brown's Paradise series and was really excited to read this one. As her first romantic suspense novel I think she did very well. It was a great read. I enjoyed the pull of Nicole to figuring out the island but trying to build a relationship with Michael. It was one that made me keep guessing until the end and that is the kind of book I want more of. Definitely a book I will got back to and read again in the future.

Starfish Island by Deborah Brown is a romantic mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end. Moving is stressful enough, but who can Nicole trust in this new place? Can she give her heart away or is she bound for total destruction? So many lies and half-truths weave throughout the story and keep you engaged. Ms. Brown keeps the characters interesting and unique, while giving the reader a glimpse into the lies hidden in Starfish Island. Slowly unraveling the story and adding enough twists that you never quite know what is going to happen next. A strong female lead and a handsome stranger most definitely make for interesting bedfellows. I can say that the steamy moments intermingled with spine-tingly moments keep you on edge. There were moments when the plot dragged a bit for me, but overall was a great way to spend a quiet weekend. Suspense, romance, and lies surround the cast of characters and make for an intriguing read.

The twists and turns of this book will keep you guessing ’til the end! I loved reading this novel. It was a fabulous combination of romance, mystery, and deception. This one definitely left me in suspense all throughout. I was rooting for Michael and Nicole’s romance, but as the characters unfolded, each chapter left me questioning who was being genuine and who was deceptive. With each Chapter I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next. As Nicole faced her frustrations regarding the events that were occurring, I was curious as to how she would get to the bottom of everything. I love novels that exude suspense and make you question the sincerity of the characters. It was a thrilling and well-written story. I can’t wait to read more from this author!

Starfish Island is a real page turner from Deborah Brown and it reminded me strongly of some of the classic romantic suspense fiction like Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier. All the elements are there - a huge house in a remote location, staff who are deeply unpleasant and threatening and a romantic interest who is really hard to pin down right until the very end. Throw in a lawyer who seems to be a touch too self-assured, an ex lover who is a complete cad and, refreshingly, some strong female characters and you have a story which is difficult to put down. Nicole, Brown's heroine, is just the right side of independent, although I did find myself wishing she would be a lot more assertive when it came to dealing with a group of characters who treat her like a child when it is clear they don't have her best interests at heart. The most clever aspect of Starfish Island which has a great mystery plot, is that it is very hard to know who is good and who is bad until the end. And there is a very enjoyable and satisfying denouément. There are a couple of quite explicit sex scenes though so you might want to avoid this one if that offends you. All in all highly recommended. I got this book free in return for an honest review.

I have read Deborah Brown’s Paradise Series and they were great mischievous mysteries with a touch of romance, but Starfish Island definitely had more romance and a lot of mystery. While the Paradise Series was more laid back, humorous, mystery, “who done it”; I found Starfish Island to be suspenseful, definitely a mystery, and absolutely a “who done it”. Starfish Island gave me a lot of anxiety. There were so many characters and many of them really needed to be told off – Nicole was far too nice to several of them. There were lots of characters I didn’t like who didn’t seem to be who they were. Nicole (and clearly the author) would plant seeds of doubt about the characters I did like. Honestly, when the entire truth came out (and I mean entire truth) I was quite surprised. I really did not think the who or the what or the why were what they all were. I am a big fan of Deborah Brown and truly enjoyed Starfish Island. I hope she continues her “romantic mysteries” because this one was great!

I found myself lost in the beauty of Starfish Island. I found myself wondering what would I do if I was Nicole? How awesome would it be to inherit a mansion on a private island? One can only dream. Nicole’s dream soon turns into a nightmare though. Someone wants her out of the house she just inherited. Who and why is the question? This book will keep you guessing and trying to figure out the mystery. It played out different than I thought it would to a point. This is a great book to curl up with on a cold winter day with your favorite hot beverage.

Can you imagine inheriting a fortune and being unsure as to whether it was a big mistake because it it endangered your life? Well Nicole Alexander experiences this when she inherits a house on Starfish Island, from her grandmother whom she's never met. Upon her arrival to the island, Nicole runs into a handsome stranger, Michael Edwards, who turns out to be her neighbour, who lets her know that he was the executor of her grandmother's will that gave her her fortune. After a terrifying frightful night, Nicole becomes fearful in her new home. In addition to being being bossed around by the house's existing help, and being told by her lawyer and neighbour the other can't be trusted, Nicole loses sleep trying to figure out why her grandmother left everything to her. On an island where she doesn't know anyone and has to trust her gut with who she can trust, and learn why being the sole inheritor is causing so much grief with the island's residents. Mystery and a bit of romance makes for a perfect novel to devour, keep up with the great stories Deborah Brown.

Ever wonder what you would do if a rich family member that you have never met left you everything? That is exactly what happens to Nicole. She rises to the challenge and doesn’t let anyone push her around. Between the butler, the lawyer, the ex-boyfriend, and the sexy neighbor everyone wants something from her or wants her to take their advice. Yet, she stands strong, finds her path, and blazes along. Nicole is so crazy strong! She doesn’t take crap from anyone, she doesn’t back down, and she gets out of her own way. Starfish Island has mystery, romance, beautiful location, wonderful characters, and so much more. I was kept guessing as to who was causing Nicole all the problems and the whole reason why. I found myself taking guesses and many times hoping I was wrong. I was so surprised at the ending that I just had to stop and think about what was happening. The ending was wonderful, perfect, and unexpected. This is the first book I have read by Deborah Brown. I plan on checking out more of her books. I recommend checking out Starfish Island.

Starfish Island is a new book to love from Ms. Deborah Brown If you are a fan of Ms. Deborah Brown's book, Starfish Island will add to your collection of her amazing writings. I LOVED this new book. I LOVED the title and the cover. Nicole and Michael will get your emotions twisted. Their first meeting is like a run and chase. The book is very suspense which I LOVED and my second favorite genre to read. Money is the root of all evil. People gets giddy and will do anything to hurt Nicole to grab her inheritance. Starfish Island is a must read if you love suspense. It is a beautiful book to read also if you are in vacation while listening to the waves by the ocean. Starfish Island also is a fun and hot read. The suspense will get you going until the last page. Disclosure: I received the ARC of the book in exchange of my honest review.

Nicole never knew her grandmother. So it comes as a surprise when she receives word that she is her grandmother’s only living relative, and has inherited her fortune. She moves across the country to Starfish Island, where the estate is located. When she gets there, she has to deal with hostility from the hired help, as well as the estate lawyer. The only bright spot is Michael, the next door neighbor and executor of the will. Unsure if she can trust him or not, she feels isolated. Then when her ex-fiancé shows up, things only go further downhill for her. What a mystery! I had my suspicions but it was hard to narrow down the suspects. I’m a friendly person, but I don’t think I would have put up with the insubordination as long as Nicole did. I loved how the story would describe the beautiful views. I would have been out on the ocean instead of cooped up with all the arrogance and hostility bringing me down.

In this book Nicole receives and inheritance from her grandmother who she never met. I really liked Nicole's character because after receiving her inheritance everyone wants to either get something from her or gives her advice that they want her to take. Nicole however doesn't like to get pushed around and doesn't let anyone do it! This book has it all, romance, mystery and amazing characters! This book will keep you intrigued and guessing who and why someone wants Nicole out of her house on Starfish Island!

If you are looking for a book with romance & some mystery with lots of action then this book is for you. Starfish Island has mystery, romance, beautiful location. This is my kind of book!!! Nicole is Not afraid to stand up for herself. She doesn't back down from anyone. The romance thru this book makes you wonder who will be together at the end. The mystery kept me guessing until the end who was causing all the problems. When you think you know who it is there is another twist which I love in a mystery and especially to have romance thrown in for good measure. I think this was my first book by Deborah Brown and what a delight it was. After a bad break-up, Nicole Alexander is ready for a change. When she inherits a house on Starfish Island from a grandmother she never knew, it seems like the perfect opportunity for starting over. But soon after moving in, Nicole starts getting messages warning her to leave. She is determined to get to the bottom of the hauntings, Nicole starts an investigation. When things get hot and heavy with one of the island’s most charismatic residents, Michael Edwards, made a promise to Nicole's grandmother that he will look after her. Her lawyer told her that Michael was after her property and that her grandmother ask him to marry her. Will Nicole discover the reason for the island’s hostility before it’s too late? Can she fall for a man she doesn’t exactly trust? She doesn't know who to believe or trust especially when her ex boyfriend shows up trying to win her back. I received this book in exchange for an honest review. If you like mystery and romance together especially mystery then this is the book for you most mysteries they have now are more scared than a mystery but I throughly enjoyed this book.
