When you read Paranormal for years the stories start to look and sound the same. You will not find the same ole tired story here! I really enjoyed this story and am excited to read the next book in this series. I don't do spoilers...but this book kept me interested. Ok ok...I will say that I loved the way Ethan handled Genesis' hateful mom! Want to know more like...Who will Genesis chose? Read the book. HAPPY READING EVERYONE!!

An excellent, wildly unique and engrossing paranormal tale! I freaking loved it! Random book stats Setting: Seattle, the year 2015 POV: Dual Genesis: a 25-year old human Ethan: a vampire Mason: a werewolf Alex & Stephanie: both sirens Cassius: a Dark One Sariel & Aziel: Archangels I've been collecting other novels by this author for almost a year, but I hadn't read a single one until now. I'm so thrilled that this was the one I chose to read first. I read it in one sitting, something that is rare for me. I loved all the mythology, the emotional tension, the passion, the humor, the prophecy and the twists. And that epilogue nicely set up the sequel. I’m totally hooked. Luckily, Untouchable Darkness (The Dark Ones Saga, #2) is already available. I now have new reading plans for next weekend.

Loved it! Genius's fate was Ethan no matter what Cassius tried to do to interfere. And Mason was such a sweet Werewolf. Alex was a strange siren and Stephanie was a lie in siren clothing. A must read! You will love it. I could not put it down.

FIVE+ STAR FABULOUS ★★★★★ The Dark Ones is one of the best books I've read. The storyline and plot was fabulous. It explained certain points in the paranormal world of this book without running on and on and losing the reader or the moment. It was exciting and intriguing and holds the reader captive in it's world completely. I couldn't put it down and I was so upset when it ended. Not because the ending sucked but because I didn't want it to ever end. I was totally lost in this story and hated to say goodbye to any of the characters. -- Looking for a sexy alpha vampire? Got it √ -- In the mood for a werewolf who can cook? Got it √ -- Sexy, seductive Sirens on your mind? Got it √ The immortal world of good and bad meets humanity. This book was absolutely awesome. I loved Alex the male siren the most. I loved all of the characters but Alex was my absolute fave. His smartass commentary at times had me laughing so hard I was crying. I hope he gets his own book in the future. That would be awesome sauce. I feel like five stars isn't even close to being enough for The Dark Ones. I wish I could give it 10++ stars to be honest. The crazy thing about this is that I don't normally read that genre of books, ever. Just never really interested me enough to look into. I only decided to read The Dark Ones because my newsfeed was full of people saying how much they loved this book. Plus, Rachel Van Dyken is a fabulous author anyways. So I had to see what all the hype was about... I'm so happy I did. It's well worth the read, you won't be disappointed.

“Love, in all my experience, was just that–selfishness wrapped up in a pretty little bow.” I have been a huge fan of Rachel Van Dyken’s books for a long time now. And with each new book or new series, I fall more in love with the characters and the author’s writing. The Dark Ones was no exception and has quickly found a place for its self as one of my top RVD reads. When I first started this book, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. From the moment I read the first page, I knew I was on to something that was going to be exciting, and entertaining. I was completely entranced and spellbound by the characters and the story-line. The story-line was so refreshing and unique. We were given vampires, werewolves, sirens, humans and angelic beings. The Dark Ones follows the story of Genesis. Her entire life she has been told that she is ugly and nothing. She has been told that her purpose in life, if called upon, is to teach and serve the immortals. However, Genesis will quickly find out that everything that she has been told is a lie. Now, she will find herself facing a new reality and caught between two men. She will be tested and forced to make a choice. Only, the wrong choice could cost Genesis her life….. The Dark Ones is fast paced, addictive and captivating. The story is very well written and reminded me exactly why I love this genre. I found myself completely lost to the characters and their story. I couldn’t get enough and didn’t want to put it down. The Dark Ones gave me everything I was looking for and more; from an intriguing plot to fascinating characters and exciting twists. This story had angst, romance, action, suspense and lots of steamy, swoony times. Fans of Rachel Van Dyken, you will not be disappointed in The Dark Ones. And if you’re like me, you will be waiting anxiously for more of The Dark Ones…. *I was provided an ARC copy of this book, via InkSlinger PR, in exchange for an honest review*

I am not the biggest fan of paranormal but I did enjoy this. Finding out how everything tied together was very interesting. Needless to say, I'm excited to read the next book. I think that one will be even better. If you love paranormal this book is for you and even if you don't love paranormal you should still give this one a shot. I was given an arc for an honest review.

I started this when I went to bed one night, thinking I would just have a taste. Then, I looked over at the clock, and two hours had passed without me noticing. If you like supernatural attraction which cannot be denied, this is probably a book for you. The elders are a group of leaders of the main species: vampire, werewolf, siren and Dark One. There's a sexy fantasy man for everyone (most likely you'll want them all). Genesis is a human girl who has been summoned to the council. She thinks she knows, but she has no idea of the world she's entered. Her arrival has been prophesied. I really like how these leaders are like brothers instead of being pitted against one another. Many times in stories they're natural enemies. There are bad guys and antagonist, but it isn't quite what you would normally expect. Reading The Dark Ones was a blast. I will continue with the rest of the series.

If you are a fan of Paranormal, this is a MUST READ!!! This book is so good!! It's captivating, exciting, interesting and keeps you wanting more! You instantly fall in love with all of the characters even if they aren't "good". Rachel has a way of making the reader really connect with everyone in her books. Whether it's the strong immortal that is trying to learn how to trust again or the human that has self esteem problems, yet makes everyone smile with her love of Disney. Once again, fabulous job Rachel!!

Yes, I'm convinced that Rachel can write ANYTHING. Any genre, any age, anything. I used to read paranormal all the time. Vampires fascinate me. So, when I heard that one of my favorite authors was writing about vampires, I literally screamed. This has all the things you want in a paranormal romance. Suspense, foreplay, heat, humor, sexy characters and a little angst. Rachel writes family and loyalty better than any author out there. Genesis has lived her life learning about Immortals and is under the impression that if her number is called, she's going to go live with them and teach them. Man, was she wrong. Imagine walking into a room with four immortals and not knowing what to say, do, act. Now, imagine they are all beautiful. When your whole life you were told that you are nothing and you are ugly, Genesis doesn't know what's happening. But, she knows something isn't right when she's caught up in a terrifying scene and finds herself whisked away with a vampire. A sexy, gorgeous, brooding vampire. She find herself living with Ethan, vampire, Alex, siren and Mason, werewolf. Then she's told she is to become Ethan's mate to protect her from a Dark One. They all vow to protect Genesis at all costs. Going against Cassius, the Dark One is dangerous, but they think Genesis might be the answer they have been looking for. Will Ethan save her from Cassius? Will Genesis truly fall for Ethan and save herself? This is a standalone, but I know there has to be more coming and I can't wait!!! "You'll know…because you'll be so on fire for me, you'll think of nothing else. Not food, water, safety - not anything. Your only need will be me." Home. She'd called my house her home. Male pride roared in my chest. Barely keeping it together, I nodded my head and pressed a kiss to her forehead. "How's my iron?" "Perfectly balanced."

This is a great paranormal book by Rachel. Genesis Has been taught since a young age that she may be chosen to work for the immortals. It was a part of her studies growing up to learn all she could about the different types of immortals. However she never thought her number would actually be called, due to her bloodline and how ugly her mother always told her she was. Than one day it happened her number was called and her world would change forever. First of all most of what Genesis had learned about the immortals was incorrect. Than she had a vampire and a dark one who both wanted her for their own. The Dark Ones has a great story line, great characters like Ethan the handsome vampire, Mason the funny werewolf, and Alex the caring Siren, just to name a few. This book has funny moments and many heart warming moments, along with a few twists and fun surprises. Overall it was a great read!!!!

★★★★★ This is one of the most addictive books that I have ever read! Everything about it, the story, the characters, it all drew me in until I was hooked and my only thought was 'What happens next?!' it totally consumed me! I LOVED the story, I mean I REALLY loved it! It's unlike anything I've ever read before, something totally different from the usual paranormal stories... Paranormal books are usually the ones that I find hardest to read, when I'm reading I prefer to be able to picture it all clearly in my mind and seeing as vampires etc don't exist I usually find it quite hard to picture it, but with The Dark Ones the picture was so clear it was crazy, it was like watching a movie play out!! Everything about the story, the characters and all the tiny details just made it all the more real for me and that really is quite mind blowing! It's told in both Ethan's and Genesis's POV so you get the story from both sides. The characters are quite frankly brilliant... They all draw you in and leave you begging for more, so much so that 'One more chapter' can easily turn into 'Whooops it's 3am'. The immortals have some unique banter that had me laughing like crazy at times, they are just so funny, and all the species have characteristics that are unique to them, I really enjoyed learning about them all as characters and species! This is one seriously amazing book and I can't wait for more from this series! ****ARC received in exchange for honest review****
