I first read this book as a teenager. I was into running track and the title caught my eye. As I started reading, I soon found out it was about track, life, love, and much more. I could not stop reading - in fact, I read the whole thing in one weekend. As a young adolescent, struggling with my own identity and sexuality, this book was a God-send. Coming from a small town, I did not fully realize that there really were people in the world who felt like me. I cried from relief, sorrow, happiness, and shear pleasure. I picked the book back up and read it again. Since then I have read The Front Runner several more times and also many other books in this genre and have even written a few myself. Patricia Nell Warren has a way with writing characters and story-lines that a person can easily get into, no matter if they are gay, straight, bi, or still exploring. Read the Front Runner and the sequels as soon as you can!! You will not be disappointed.

I have never read a book that moved me so much, I am not really a reader of love stories and I have never cried while reading a book. That is until I read the Front Runner, once I started I couldn't put it down until I was finished. I became so attached to the characters it was if I knew them personally. For days after finishing the I still cried every time I would think of the story. This is a MUST READ gay or not, its also a good book for track or sports fan who will understand some of the struggles in the story. This is the greatest love story every told, gay or otherwise.

Amasing story!! 'The Front Runner' will guide you into a path of personal pride and respectable productivity! I believe that the experience at reading 'The Front Runner' will give young front runnerees possitive values for life. I recommend this book to those who understand that love doesn't know barriers. Let love and pride be with you!! I first read this book 12 years ago and still this book stands out from other readings I've done. It actually gave me the possitive values I was searching for. I found 'The Front Runner' to be amasing and inspirating and I am sure it will be for real front runners in search of possitive guidance. Advise: don't worry about the ending, you can make your own!! Buy it, read it, and respect yourself.
