Overview

Cast from their home country by religious intolerance, the Pilgrims' harrowing voyage to the New World was filled with hardships. But through it all they persisted, motivated by the promise of a better life in which they could gather and worship God in their own ways. A collection of ragtag ships carried them across the ocean, among them The Mayflower. Crammed into the ship's hull, 102 people made this most famous pilgrimage. Besieged by illness and Indians and, many of them believed, witches, the Pilgrims eventually flourished, building up colonies and establishing their own rules for the practice of religion. Here is their dramatic story.

Fascinating What I loved about this book was reading the history I didn't know. Americans think of the Pilgrims as people who fled religious persecution in Europe. What we don't know is what the Pilgrims did to others once they arrived in America. Fascinating reading and well written. High recommended.

I recently moved to Massachusetts and was eager to learn more about the history of the area. This book was exactly what I was looking for. It's more than an account of events - it captures the characters and personalities that shaped America. Highly recommended.

This book has no footnotes so maybe Mr. Fitzgerald was there. Not well written, if you are serious about history, avoid this book. Author must have written the first review.
