Overview

The #1 New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong delivers the novel her fans have been clamoring for: Thirteen, the epic finale of the Otherworld series.

It’s been more than ten years, a dozen installments, and hundreds of thousands of copies since Kelley Armstrong introduced readers to the all-too-real denizens of the Otherworld: witches, werewolves, necromancers, vampires, and half-demons, among others. And it’s all been leading to Thirteen, the final installment, the novel that brings all of these stories to a stunning conclusion.

A war is brewing—the first battle has been waged and Savannah Levine is left standing, albeit battered and bruised. She has rescued her half brother from supernatural medical testing, but he’s fighting to stay alive. The Supernatural Liberation Movement took him hostage, and they have a maniacal plan to expose the supernatural world to the unknowing.

Savannah has called upon her inner energy to summon spells with frightening strength, a strength she never knew she had, as she fights to keep her world from shattering. But it’s more than a matter of supernaturals against one another—both heaven and hell have entered the war; hellhounds, genetically modified werewolves, and all forces of good and evil have joined the fray.

Uniting Savannah with Adam, Paige, Lucas, Jaime, Hope, and other lost-but-notforgotten characters in one epic battle, Thirteen is a grand, crowd-pleasing closer for Armstrong’s legions of fans.

From Barnes & Noble

The grand finale to Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series places Savannah Levine in extreme peril. Shorn of her powers, she must rely on instinct and inner purpose to summon her strength to save the supernatural world. Entering the fray are hordes of Hell Hounds, Genetically Modified Werewolves, and other ghoulish creatures; but also returning are Adam, Paige, Lucas, Jamie, Hope, and Savannah's parents. A rousing finish to a superb, decade-long series.

Library Journal
Bittersweet news, Otherworld fans: after a dozen books, here's the grand finale of the series. With supernaturals battling one another—and in danger of exposure to the general population—Savannah Levine is dredging up all her strength to summon spells to keep her world intact. You bet that Otherworld familiars Adam, Paige, Lucas, Jaime, and Hope will be making appearances, along with hellhounds, genetically modified werewolves, and other creepy pleasers. This will be big.

    Fantastic series finale

Thirteen was the best series finale I've ever read, I do believe. Armstrong brought back all of our favorites in this epic ending, and we got to see how each narrator's story ended. Everyone got a turn, and I really enjoyed that. While this book was all about Savannah's final journey, Armstrong included a very short epilogue of sorts letting us know how things wrapped up for Elena and Clay as well. She wanted things to come full circle, and I'm glad she handled things that way. I enjoyed the last story being about Savannah, but I liked the very, very end being about Elena and Clay. This ending was perfect, in my opinion, and while I was sad that the series was over, I ended the book feeling happy. Armstrong really couldn't have written a better ending to this series.

The narration was different from previous Otherworld books. Savannah told most of the story in first person narration, but randomly, one of the narrators of previous books got to tell their story. However, the other narrators were in third person limited POVs. Still, the narrators reflected on their lives so that we could also reflect on the character growth of all of the narrators over this series. Each narrator got a turn: Jamie, Elena, Paige, Hope, and Eve. The switch in narrators didn't bother me, and I enjoyed remembering each character's individual journey. I loved all of the narrators (other than Hope) in the series, and I was glad to see how they each came into their own. Savannah's character development was fantastic over the arc of the past three novels, and I am very happy with how she turned out. Cassandra really surprised me at the end, and I grew to respect her more as a character as well. I was left with good feelings about everyone in the series.

There was nonstop action and adventure, though there was really no mystery. By this point in the story, we knew who all of the bad guys were. People surprised the characters, betrayed them, etc., but I always saw it coming beforehand. Anytime something seemed to work out in a character's favor, I knew that it was too simple and things would fall apart shortly. That always happened. Armstrong really tested her characters up until the very end. There was no tranquil ending for the women of the Otherworld, and I'm sure they wouldn't want one.

The pacing was spot on, and even though I purposefully dragged this book out, I was never bored. I just didn't want the series to end, so I read a little tiny bit at a time over a few days to ensure I made the series last as long as possible. I know, it's silly, but that's what I did anyway. The ending tied everything up nicely, and I truly feel that every question that's ever been raised in the series has been answered. I'm content with how everyone's story ended. The ending was open, however. There is the possibility of Armstrong writing another book if she wants because it's clear that the adventures are far from over, but I feel that the story arc itself has ended. Things were tied up nicely, and if there isn't another Otherworld book written ever, then I'd be perfectly happy with how things ended.

I really do not want to spoil this book for anyone, so I am going to end this review here. The Otherworld series has been my favorite series for years, and will probably continue to be my favorite series for the rest of my life. Every single book grabbed me, and this last one was no different. I'd recommend this book to everyone who's ever read the series.

I had a love/hate relationship with this book. I loved it because we got to see everyone from the whole series but hated it because it is the last in the series. If only it could have been another 300 pages. Like others have commented, so many series seem to fade along the way. Not this one. The characters were alive for me all the way through. I cannot say enough about how much I will miss this world… at least I can always go back and read them again!

    I Also Recommend:

    Constant action!

I picked up the Otherworld Series about a year ago, rotating between other books and this series. I realized that I would finish up the first twelve books just in time for Thirteen. I'm very happy I didn't have to wait for the true time between books. Kelley Armstrong is one of my favorite authors, and this book was amazing. With constant action, unexpected things happening, and many questions answered, it was a fabulous read.

    The Otherworld Series Finale

Kelly Armstrong does a fantastic job in finalizing the Otherworld series. Most of the problems have been resolved, but she leaves room to come back and write another story in the future if she wants. My biggest complaint with this book is that it is the LAST book in this series. I love this series and was hoping for many more Otherworld stories.

As much as I have loved this series and was sad to see it end, I found this book disappointing. It had some really good moments, but the pacing was off and the ending seemed rushed. It was also disappointing some characters just seemed to pop up and make an obligatory appearance, but didn't really have anything to do. It seemed like the characters spent most their time on a jet somewhere or just running around. I suppose this bothered me because normally the pacing is so excellent in Ms. Armstrong's books. It was a good finale- I just wish it had been better.

You get to see the war brewing in all realms and come to a close with all characters.

Heaven and Hell are just as divided as the supernaturals in the human world. Lots of fighting on supernaturals coming out to the humans and Lord Balaam has decided to Rule in the human world. Savannah has to find a way to get through the paranormal world on her minimal magic now, and has picked up quickly and is a major piece in the war to come, fighting rogue drugged werewolves, hellhounds, and a sorcerer, along with demons. All to be surprised with someone's visit. The Supernatural Liberation Movement is fighting to show the world who the supernatural are, and change it for them, along with the vaccine of 'immortality' as well.

We start exactly where Spell Bound ended with Savannah, Bryce and Adam walking away from the lab that just blew up and fell down around them. The vaccine...do you remember the virus from Spell Bound? Yeap, it's back. Hot and heavy mess with it here. We are reminded of this that will grant immortality with a mix of supernatural DNA in it. We learn more about this vaccine, which is a virus.

Savannah's mom is found to be more special than suspected and coveted by others. Putting Savannah and Jaime Vegas on the radar for trouble. Then we have Hope, who comes to the foreground due to who her father is. All our characters in the Underworld series are in teams working on this huge issue of breakouts and the SLAM (the Supernatural Liberation Movement, as Savannah has branded them) group.

Savannah gets some treasured time with someone special. She has also learned to handle being weak in the magic area, learning to adapt in other ways, making her a stronger person.

Some references back to Waking the Witch and Spell Bound in the case we are working through. I'm sure more references are made to the other ten books as well, with the characters showing up, but shame on me for not reading them yet.

The book is from Savannah's point of view. But there is a chapter here and there that are of anothers eyes so we see and know whats happening and getting a bigger story. The characters he hear from briefly: Jaime, Elena, Paige, Hope, and Eve.

Oh, and if you are curious about Savannah and Adam. Well, you'll have to read the book. ;)

This story I think YA readers could easily follow through with from the previous two books. I will mention there is sexual content, not that you get details while happening, but you know it's happened. So safe it's to read.

I will say I do love Savannah and hope to see her in a few short stories in the future. It would be nice to see these characters, the ones that make it out, again. And there are a few stories here to be told.

I really enjoy this vast world of demons, witches, werewolves, vampires, and so much more supernatural. Definitely a series to visit with so much available in it. Well done Kelley. I do want more, and will have to pick up the beginning books to get it, and hope for future tales as well.

    From Russia, with Love
This is a short story at the end of the book that I think many long time series followers will love. Where the series started, it should end as well. Very nice touch by Kelley. I don't want to give anything away as it's full from the start, and might also give you something about the ending of Thirteen as well.

I even enjoyed reading this short story and getting to see the twins, and more action with the characters. I think it would be wonderful if Kelley could pick up with the twins in the future, for short s

All good things must come to an end¿and with Thirteen Armstrong

All good things must come to an end…and with Thirteen Armstrong brings
her huge fan base who have followed the ‘Otherworld’ series with eager
anticipation, a truly epic and entertaining ending. Beginning the book
by bringing readers back to where it all began, we once again walk
hand-in-hand with Elena. Soon, however, we switch to Savannah (the witch
who has truly grown up in these books) and became a warrior to all her
readers. A lot has happened for Savannah Levine; she has come through
the first stage of all out war as a victor of sorts, having saved her
half-brother from seriously creepy medical testing that the Supernatural
Liberation Movement was doing on him. The Movement wants nothing more
than to expose and unveil all the supernatural creatures to the rest of
the world. They want all mortals to know that a vampire or witch may
live right next door, yet Savannah and her friends are doing their very
best to stop that from happening. After all, if this information comes
to light the world will be changed for the worse. But in this
unforgettable finale the author has brought in everything. Not only are
there necromancers, werewolves and everybody’s favorite demons, but the
worlds of Heaven and Hell are now joining the pages and have changed the
‘Otherworld’ series from a fight to a true life and death battle for one
and all. It was amazing to watch Savannah, Adam, Clay, Hope and ALL the
characters from other stories arrive for the fight, and readers will
have an absolute ball with this…right before they burst into tears
knowing that Thirteen will be the very last tale starring these
characters who have become true friends. Quill Says: Anyone who knows
Armstrong knows there must be another series just waiting to be written,
and we are ALL looking forward to it!

I loved this book and could not put it down! At the same time, though, I didn't want it to end because it was the end of the series. I have been reading this series for so long that it feels weird to see it end. I loved seeing all of the characters from the books (Although I do have my favorites and always will). This was an awesome book and an awesome series. Definitely worth buying!!!

    Awaiting answers

Is this the end of the otherworld series? Through twelve books and some short stories we have been introduced to demons, angels, magicians, shapechangers, necromancers and asoorted other characters. My favorites remain with the werewolves and the necromancer but the arc of the daughter of the dead witch turned angel is intriguing. One hope is that though the book is pre-ordered, the publisher will release the nook edition on the same date.

    Great book, decent ending.

I love this series and this book was no exception. I really don't have any complaints about the book, the writing, plot or characters. The only thing that prevented me from giving a full 5 stars was I felt the ending was a tad bit lacking compared to the other books of the series, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone.

I have followed this series faithfully from the first book. I am so sad I won't be waiting for the next full length installment as usual. I love these characters, and do not want to loose them. Thirteen was all we fans could hope for and more. My thanks to the author for years of wonderful entertainment. Sincerely.

Hate to say it (because I have loved the series) I was quite disappointed in this final book. Plot was largely replace with a lot of running around. The big earth shaking crisis driving the plot was resolved with no more fanfare than the host of mini crisis used to pad the book and give face-time to most of the characters in the series. All in all, most unsatisfying. :-(
