First things first! Thank you Deadtie for putting out an affordable copy of this book first released by Bloodletting in 2009 as a limited hardcover. You saved me a bundle of dough! This is the second of Lee's H.P. Lovecraft novella's that I have had the fortunate to read. Though a good number of his books have various nods to the master of 20th century horror, this and The Innswich Horror are straight odes to his style and the Mythos he created. Lee once again writes as if he was Lovecraft or one of his contemporaries, though this one unlike The Innswich Horror, doesn't completely shy away from some explicit sexual situations and vulgar language, that is more like the Lee I have grown to enjoy. Being a Lovecraft fan, these odes to him are fun reads, this one in particular is a fast paced and easy to get through in a few hours and worth reading in one sitting. Unlike The Innswich Horror, which is a bit of sequel to Shadows Over Innsmouth, this one pits Lovecraft himself in the conundrum, whether to write a pornographic story for a private magazine. Of course, he chooses the best for himself, (and how many novelists have been thus employed I wonder?) and sets out to write a Lovecraftian smut story. Fans of Lee and Lovecraft should get a kick out of this and it is sadly disappointing that Lee's contributions to the Lovecraft Mythos have been largely ignored by scholars and students alike. Since the Deadite edition is cheap, I would invest both your monies and your interest in getting this, well worth the under ten bucks and IMHO, better then anything Lovecraft ever did.Was this review helpful?
