Maggie Lawson has completely sworn off romantic relationshipsforeverand is planning to pal around with her tight-knit group of BFFs for the rest of her life. Why? Maggie was jilted at the altar when her groom-to-be's pregnant wife crashed the wedding with their two children. Maggie left her small Florida town for Chicago and never looked back. Hottie Tyler Daniels moves into her building and starts out acting like a jerk, leaving their relationship to go from casual neighbors to snarktastic enemies in the blink of an eye. Tyler is in a permanently bad mood: he's just left his life in New York to follow his selfish ex to the Windy City on the off chance that she'll give him another try. He doesn't want her, but he desperately wants back into the life of the child whom she made him believe was hisuntil her baby daddy returned. So Tyler wants the kid, and Maggie wants to be left alone. But when her friends welcome him into their circle, Maggie and Tyler find their frenemyship moving into a relationship that neither of them says they want. Yet it's one that neither can resist.
Verdict In this latest from Kelly (Waking up Pregnant), Maggie's ties to her friends is terrifically well done. Also, it's clear from the beginning that all the snark between Tyler and Maggie is masking a powerful attraction that they both wish to ignore. Every time they resist just makes every time they give in that much hotter (and sweeter). But the backstories for both characters may crash the willing suspension of disbelief, especially as Tyler's reasoning in every direction makes him act like a jerk fairly often.Marlene Harris, Atlanta
